Tensions between The Philippines and China have resurfaced in the past few weeks with China announcing it will push for a code of conduct in the disputed waters of the South China Sea. The Philippines is urging Beijing to recall hundreds of fishing vessels that it said were spotted near the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. The Philippine military released photos of Chinese ships at the disputed Whitsun reef claimed by both countries. The Chinese Embassy says these vessels were not part of any maritime militia but fishing boats taking shelter during rough seas.
