China fears: Taiwan considers extending army conscription

Taiwan is considering extending mandatory military service for young people following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The defence minister says four months of service would not be long enough in the event of a conflict. Military drills have taken place on the Dongyin archipelago, a string of islands that are closer to mainland China than they are to Taipei. Taiwan air force flexes muscles after latest Chinese incursion

0 Taiwan’s air force conducted drills to simulate a war scenario on Tuesday. The exercises took place just two days after the country’s air defence identification zone was breached twice by several Chinese planes. China is due to start a large-scale military exercise on Thursday in the disputed waters of the South China Sea. It comes at a time of increased tension with the neighbouring island of Taiwan as Beijing waits to see what impact the Biden administration will have on China-US relations.
