Thai court suspends Pita as MP as parliament votes on new PM

Thailand’s Constitutional Court has ordered a temporary suspension of prime ministerial candidate Pita Limjaroenrat from parliament after accepting a case against him alleging he was unqualified to run in the country’s May 14 election. Pita, who was due to contest a parliamentary vote on the premiership on Wednesday, has argued his ownership of shares in a media company was not a violation of election rules. More than 30 people killed in mass shooting in Thailand: Police

More than 30 people have been killed in a mass shooting at a children’s day-care centre in a northeastern province of Thailand, a police spokesperson said. Victims included both children and adults, police said in a statement on Thursday, adding that the gunman was an ex-police officer and a manhunt was underway. The prime minister has alerted all agencies to take action and apprehend the culprit, a government spokesperson said.
