Ethiopia’s Tigrayan rebels start handing over heavy weapons

Tigrayan rebels have begun handing in their heavy weapons, a key part of an agreement signed more than two months ago to end a gruelling conflict in northern Ethiopia, a spokesman for the rebel authorities said. The handover in the town of Agulae, about 30km (18 miles) northeast of the regional capital Mekelle, was overseen by a monitoring team comprising members of the two sides and a regional body, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). Tears, prayers as flights resume to Ethiopia’s Tigray region

Ethiopian Airlines have resumed flights to northern Tigray, reuniting loved ones – after 18 months of conflict. Ethiopian forces recapture two key towns from rebels, gov’t says

Ethiopian forces have recaptured the strategic towns of Dessie and Kombolcha from Tigrayan fighters, the government said, the latest sign of the government retaking territory it recently lost. Tigray conflict highlights border dispute between Ethiopia, Sudan

Sudan says it has played an important role in helping refugees from Ethiopia despite its own economic difficulties. But this crisis is not the only challenge posed by the conflict. The al-Fashaga triangle, where most of the refugees are being hosted, covers an area of about 250 square kilometres and it has around 600,000 acres of fertile land. Sudan says it is an integral part of its territory because it lies west of the line drawn by colonial Britain.
