Two-state solution moves towards ‘reality’ with Palestine recognitions | Quotable

Kushtrim Istrefi, an assistant professor at Utrecht University, says recognition of Palestine as a state by Norway, Spain and Ireland is a result of Israel’s war on Gaza. He says these recognitions send a “clear message” to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that a two-state solution, and a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict “cannot be achieved” under the current circumstances. Gantz will likely ask for military assistance from US, analyst says

Omar Ashour, a professor of security and military studies at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, says Benny Gantz during his visit to the US will likely ask for more military assistance to bolster Israel’s ammunition stockpiles. “If some sort of a truce happens or was successful, I think what we will see is a bit more of reconstruction of forces, repairing of some of the armoured vehicles and also rearming them to be much more effective in the next round,” Ashour told Al Jazeera. The visit by Gantz, who is expected to meet senior US administration officials, comes as US Vice President Harris called for an “immediate” pause in […]

Netanyahu juxtapositions Israeli fighters with Israeli captives: Bishara

Speaking in a televised address, the Israeli prime minister has again come out against a two-state solution and an independent Palestinian state.  Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst, Marwan Bishara, highlights that the Israeli Prime Minister has firmly rejected proposals from America’s allies, friends, and critics, displaying a new-found confidence and assertiveness after months of wavering. Bishara said that Netanyahu adopts a combative tone, emphasizing heroism, victory, and the decisive defeat of Hamas, sidelining negotiations. Bishara added that the Israeli prime minister juxtaposes the demands of captive families with those of fallen soldiers, solidifying his coalition’s support while dismissing American influence and asserting Israel’s autonomy despite accepting aid. Time to boycott Israel? | Head to Head

“Prospects have never been better for settling the Israel-Palestine conflict,” argues Norman Finkelstein, the controversial scholar and author of The Holocaust Industry and Method and Madness. But after more violence, yet another round of failed talks and 20 years of Israeli land annexation, is the two-state solution really still an option? In this episode of Head to Head, Mehdi Hasan challenges Norman Finkelstein on his proposal for resolving the Israel-Palestine conflict, and explores whether he has changed his tone on some of his more incendiary criticism of Israel. Once described as an ‘American Radical’, Finkelstein has also been branded by some a liberal Zionist, for his opposition to the one-state […]
