Kushtrim Istrefi, an assistant professor at Utrecht University, says recognition of Palestine as a state by Norway, Spain and Ireland is a result of Israel’s war on Gaza. He says these recognitions send a “clear message” to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that a two-state solution, and a peaceful resolution of the ongoing conflict “cannot be achieved” under the current circumstances.

Even if each side agree in principle there’ll always be a new objection to finalising borders or other details necessary with a two-state solution and this is why it can at best only ever maintain a status quo.
The only fair and sensible option is to do what every other non-oppressive country on the planet has done and adopt a one-state multiethnic free-for-all ‘actual’ democracy… and focus on making that work by breaking down old dogmas & biases via a huge truth & reconciliation process. Let this outcome be the legacy of what’s happening now.
