0 Voting has started in Uganda in fraught presidential and parliamentary elections with an internet blackout in place. Uganda’s Bobi Wine released, 37 dead in protests over his arrest

A prominent opposition figure in Uganda has been released on bail – and says he was tortured in detention. Presidential candidate Bobi Wine was arrested at a campaign rally on Wednesday and has been charged with breaking coronavirus restrictions. Deadly protests in Uganda after Bobi Wine arrested again

Several people killed and dozens wounded in protests in Uganda, following the arrest of presidential candidate Bobi Wine. His supporters blocked roads and burned tyres in the capital, Kampala, prompting police to fire tear gas and bullets. Wine says he has been repeatedly beaten and tortured, while police continue to crack down on his supporters Wine has been in politics since 2017 when he won a seat in the national assembly.
