Xi, Blinken agree to stabilise US-China ties in Beijing talks

China and the United States have agreed to push to stabilise relations to avoid veering into conflict, but did not announce any major breakthroughs during a visit by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Beijing. A roughly 30-minute meeting with Xi on Monday was Blinken’s final engagement on the closely watched trip, which included talks with China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, and Foreign Minister Qin Gang. ‘A real conversation’: Blinken has ‘constructive’ talks in China

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held “candid, substantive, and constructive” talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang in Beijing, the State Department said. Sunday’s talks marked the start of the highest-level trip by a US official to China in nearly five years as the rival superpowers aim to stabilise strained relations. “The Secretary emphasized the importance of diplomacy and maintaining open channels of communication across the full range of issues to reduce the risk of misperception and miscalculation,” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said. South China Sea dispute: Philippines wants Chinese ships to leave reef

The Philippines is urging Beijing to recall hundreds of fishing vessels that it said were spotted near the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea. The Philippine military released photos of Chinese ships at the disputed Whitsun reef claimed by both countries. The Chinese Embassy says these vessels were not part of any maritime militia but fishing boats taking shelter during rough seas. Taiwan air force flexes muscles after latest Chinese incursion

0 Taiwan’s air force conducted drills to simulate a war scenario on Tuesday. The exercises took place just two days after the country’s air defence identification zone was breached twice by several Chinese planes. China is due to start a large-scale military exercise on Thursday in the disputed waters of the South China Sea.
