Poland-Belarus tension: Warsaw says it will deploy troops to border

NATO member Poland says is sending 10,000 troops to its border with Belarus. Tensions between Warsaw and Minsk – which is Russia’s ally – have been rising recently. Poland says two Belarussian helicopters briefly entered its airspace, last week. The government is also concerned about the border area since hundreds of Wagner mercenaries arrived in Belarus, as part of a deal that ended a mutiny in Russia in June. Hundreds of thousands march in Poland anti-government protests

Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered in Poland on the 34th anniversary of the eastern European country’s first post-war democratic election – a march the liberal opposition billed as a test of its ability to end nearly eight years of nationalist rule later this year. The enormous anti-government march in the capital Warsaw on Sunday was attended by citizens travelling from across the country to voice their anger at the right-wing administration. protests come ahead of elections in which the governing party is seen as the likely favourite to win.
