Zambia-Zimbabwe cholera emergency: Schools reopen amid clean water constraints

Schools have reopened in Zambia as a cholera emergency begins to ease. The virus has killed around 500 Zambians since October last year. Neighbouring Zimbabwe is also seeing an improvement. African peace mission: Four African leaders in Kyiv to meet Zelenskyy

In Ukraine, where explosions and air raid sirens have been heard in Kyiv. It happens as South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and four other African Heads of State are in the city hoping to broker peace between Ukraine and Moscow. The leaders are due to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy later on Friday. They’ll travel to Russia on Saturday for talks with President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg. Low water levels at Zimbabwe’s Lake Kariba trigger power cuts

Zambia’s founding President Kenneth Kaunda dies aged 97

Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia’s founding president and liberation hero, has died at a military hospital in Lusaka where he was being treated for pneumonia, his son, Kambarage, said on Thursday. He was 97. Kaunda ruled Zambia from 1964, when the southern African nation won its independence from Britain, until 1991, and afterwards become one of Africa’s most committed activists against HIV/AIDS. “I am sad to inform (members) we have lost Mzee. Let’s pray for him,” Kambarage said on the late president’s Facebook page.
