People should be honest about this. I don’t think the officials are expecting anyone alive at this time but they are not saying anything which I think it is very rude and very disrespectful to people waiting for news.

I think what happened is that the problems built up for many years, but you’re right. I don’t know how rich they all were, but many of them paid a lot of money to live there. I looked up the real estate transactions and one of the penthouses sold for $2.8 million last year. I’m guessing many people sold their units because prices in FL are so high now, but they also knew there would be a lot of future repairs. I doubt if anyone imagined the building would collapse, however.

I agree that it’s unkind to allow the families of victims to continue holding out hope that there are survivors. It didn’t look good from the very beginning that anyone could have survived with the building collapsing as it did, unless they were near the top like the little boy that was pulled out alive. The time to continue holding out hope passed days ago. I’m sure it’s hard to make that call but they need to be realistic. It will be really painful for the rescuers and the families to walk away knowing that there are people left behind but they can’t keep looking, logic has to prevail and it’s unsafe for anyone to be in there. I’m sick about the pets left behind. That would be unbearable. I don’t know how long an animal can go without food and water but I’d think their chances of survival are slim as well. It’s possible that some of them may have escaped on their own if doors and windows were left open. But we’ll never know. At this point it’s best to raze the building and deal with the next unavoidable steps in this horrible tragedy. I imagine they may turn the property into a memorial park or something honoring those lost. It seems like the only thing to do really.
I’m sorry, if I had a missing friend or family member, no matter how painful it is, I wouldn’t be so unrealistic to believe that they might still be alive. At this point I’d be surprised if they find any intact bodies. Those poor people were pulverized to dust.

The governor of Florida was rated a below average governor BEFORE this disaster. His departments that oversee the building inspection, shouldn’t have to be told about metal and structural fatigue on ANY building. I hope the family members sue everybody in Florida government. Let’s all don’t forget about the recent waste water reservoir problem in Florida that overflowed spilling contaminated waste everywhere. ( I don’t believe in coincidences) Florida’s governors’ administration appears to not know what their doing. I feel very bad for all the people who have to suffer because this governors administration.

Experts looking at video see how it came down in stages and damaged rebar throughout structure and history of salt water flooding. The terror is in human nature of denial and putting off investing in repairs and passing the buck. Lack of whistleblowers and underfunded inspection oversight. 40 year certification cycle is said to be innovative and rare across the country, but it also seems totally inadequate at the same time.

They should not demolish the still-standing portion of the Champlain Towers because that is existing evidence to find out why the building collapsed. The City is concerned about the hurricane, but the hurricane’s path will be located West of Surfside, Florida and the Champlain Towers.
Check out Building Integrity channel. It looks like they will be able to make very educated guesses as to the cause, if they haven’t already reached a conclusion.

Unfortunately it appears if the rumors are true of shoddy construction and materials there is no one still alive. I believe a day or two after the storm hits Miami the city and state will finally tell the families what officials knew since day 3 – There are no survivors to rescue.

Wow this whole disaster was handled all in different order! Why didn’t they immediately make it a mandatory evacuation from day one, just like i’ve been saying! This whole fiasco would have made a lot more sense if the governor of Florida reached out to international relief rescue groups , perhaps the loved ones of the victims would have a sense of relief instead they’re left wondering about their loved ones, crazy stuff!!!
