Covid Frustrations Lead To National Teacher Shortage
USA is doomed. Education system fails – country fails. Its time to move out of the US
There is absolutely no incentive to remain in the teaching profession, while nothing is ever done to improve working conditions or salaries for teachers.
Shows how spoil everyone is from these modern times. Fix yo self
My teacher told me not to become a teacher my senior year 2019. I’m glad I listened.
You want to know who is over worked and under payed HEALTHCARE WORKERS ARE.. WE DON’T GET HOLIDAYS OFF NO SUMMER BREAK WE ARE ALWAYS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF DIFFERENT DISEASES EVERY DAY … NOT JUST COVID AND THERES HUNDREDS WALKING OFF THE JOB BECAUSE THE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO FORCE THEM TO TAKE THE VACCINES ..WHEN THEY ARE NO LONGER HEALTHCARE WORKERS WHO IS GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THE SICK
They are overselling the VACCINE then ditches improving COVID TREATMENT! HOW IS THAT LOGICAL ? Zombies – 1 Humanity – 0
Outsource from other countries South Africa
all these people who are screaming no mask and no accine jus take them out and shoot them
what no one talks about with teaching is the hours of unpaid work in lesson prep marking etc you can earn more as a plumber and have more free time and have less hassles
There is no way I would be a teacher with lots of unvaccinated students. The risks and stress are way up and the rewards are not.
teachers are being paid hush money to cooperate. “bonuses” in the range of 5000+$.
Don’t be ridiculous. Hush money? Only new employees get sign on bonuses, and that is very rare in public schools.
Nope 👎🏾not doing it
Teachers need more money 💰
If only I were rich enough to quit due frustration
My wife and family not only use masks, but we also medical gloves as well when ever we leave our apartment to go anywhere. Teachers and everyone should do the same.
Well there’s gonna be a National student shortage. Parents need to pull out as many student’s as possible an homeschool or private school or tutoring if can afford. A group of parents could get their kids together like a mini classroom an homeschool. Schools need bodies to get $$.
Go to Frederick County Public Schools virtual blended program and teach over the internet. They actively hiring and searching
I’ve worked along side teacher while working in my old high school back in the early 2000s and i can say its been a long battle for YEARS for teachers (here in nyc),i salute all you teachers out there for fighting
I don’t blame them
Teachers are always buying their own supplies it’s a shame they aren’t paid more.
Just wait when we have NURSE shortage. Willing to bet the first people to Complain will be The People that will not vaccinated or wear 😷 mask
Despite the fact that I hold a Masters degree, have twenty plus years of experience and hold all necessary licensure in my state; There is not enough incentive to get me back in a classroom. Trust me, I’ve experienced enough to be totally done with education and I would highly advice anyone against it.
Oh my 😧
Teachers are dropping like flies and no one is going into the field. People are getting tired of being abused, so why stay????
Maybe some teachers can’t stomach watching their students be muzzled all day in class like a slave!!! FACTS
Teachers and nurses are both under valued and under paid. And being forced to take a vaccine makes it worse
Covid19 is the scam of the century! The new norm is insanity!
It is sad that we do not value our educators
As a teacher turned entrepreneur, I would like to make it clear….there has been a teacher shortage far before covid. That is why they have programs like Teach for America and the Teaching Fellows (which allow teachers to take alternative routes to become qualified). Such programs only exist because of a demand in a field that is understaffed and often underpaid.
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
1 Thessalonians 5:1-6 (KJV)
I saw a report recently that Nurses are leaving too. So sad that these vital professions aren’t being valued.
– – these poor teachers and care takers….- ALREADY under paid…and NOW….not getting any respect once again !….people need to get vaccinated. !! …and then after 6 months a booster shot ! – – – – – Schools should not even be open until they can get everyone vaccinated and have EVERYONE wearing masks.. .- our government should MANDATE the vaccines AND the mask wearing !!! – NOW ! –
I mean, there are already on strike if you remember
I hate pandemic! 😡
Look at those crazy screaming parents at that school board meeting in Tennessee. So many parents today are horrible and won’t take responsibility for the way they act let alone their own kids. They drop off their kids at school, never even being involved, and then complain. I wouldn’t want to deal with that either.
i am in a triad relationship with two teachers, a high school and an elementary school teacher. both of these lovely ladies have adored their careers since the day they started; one quit at the end of the last school year and the other just resigned today. they’ll both be working for the body shop i own going forward.
or the teachers are moving to private schools
smaller classes, masks are required and parents are told to withdraw the child if they don’t like the masks
Teachers are not moving to private schools. They pay terribly, have no special education training or support, and do not have the same rigor as public schools. Every student we got from private schools was way below grade level. Parents paid big money in some cases, only to realize the paid for an inferior education.
WOW $ 100.00 in 8 years. Shame shame on you School District. Our teachers need to make more money. Our education system is in the toilet. We send billions and billions of dollars outside the 🇺🇸. And our teachers get peanuts for pay checks. 😡😡😡 CONGRESS SHOULD SET LAWS TO MAKE SURE OUR TEACHERS GET PAY WHAT THEY DESERVE TO TEACH OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE A GOOD FOUNDATIONAL EDUCATION. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡🙏🙏
Recruit teachers and then bully tf out of them! That’s how they do in NYC! Shortage, yeah for certain types of teachers. By types I don’t mean license area either.
What did we expect? I’m surprised any of them are still there
Why am I not surprised. Politicians politicized the 💩 out of this health issue for their own personal political gains. That’s just sad. I wouldn’t want to be a teacher or a nurse right now.
Education is such a joke in the U.S. We really need to get rid of public schooling being mandatory. If parents don’t want to pay for education, then they don’t care about it. Americans really don’t respect education. They are highly suspicious of it. They just view it as a means to give their kid a chance to get a job and to be competitive in job market, which is not even the case anymore. Most people should focus and getting a rudimentary, elementary education, then get vocational jobs training to enter the workforce directly. Forget about the rest. It’ll solve the skills gap in this country with skilled blue-collared work desperate for professionals.
From someone who works at a school district(over 18 yrs): I do agreed that it’s bad but not just for teachers but everybody that works for a school district. It’s so complex now that’s hard to communicate and get things done efficiently. Can’t speak for other school district, but here in CA SFbayarea the cost of living is very expensive. So the teachers has gotten serval raises through the years but at the cost of the admin employees(we call them classified employees). Most of layoffs were for classified employees(accounting, payroll, HR) because it was politically incorrect to layoff teachers(despite the school losing students and shrinking). Now, it’s very hard to get things done because there are not a lot people doing the support work. Support work such as: entering budgets into the financials so principals have access to money, creating a new positions so teacher can hire some one. The worst is “communication”, due to the many layoffs through out the years it just hard communicating the work that needs to done from central(school district admin departments) to the school sites. I feel CA school districts are going to reaching a breaking point very soon.
I can tell you that my wife is going to quit in December..she lives in Florida.
Not in Private schools. Private school teachers must be made different.
Less teachers = better competitive pay… keep it up.
Also we need to keep this strategy and get the norm to be single person working able to support a family.
No competitive pay in teaching for the most part. Teacher pay is negotiated with each individual school board. You see sign on bonuses.
Forgive education loans. Create some incentives and perhaps teachers will remain in the field.
please, It’s already crystal clear that American Education is not a priority.
Teachers don’t care, Schools don’t care, the government doesn’t care.
But when you want people to be smart enough to WEAR A MASK during a pandemic, it’s too f’ing late.
When parents are forced to realize how poorly they treat teachers.
Not just teachers. I drove a school bus about 15 years ago and the pay was $10.70 per hour!
They don’t want to be part of the experimental shots.
Too bad, time to pay them more.
Funny, My income hasn’t changed either since 1999. You’re supposed to do it for the kids, not the cash. I know parents are extremely crazy.
Who said we are supposed to do this for the kids and not the pay. You do it for both. Teachers are not priests, nuns or monks. They do not take a vow of poverty. People work to support themselves and their families. Teachers are no different. I don’t understand why people think teachers should be volunteering their time. Do you say to firefighters and policeofficers “you’re supposed to be doing it to save people”. Come on!
If your income hasn’t changed since 1999, a career change is in order. I have teacher friends who’s children get out of school at starting salaries comparable to a teacher with 15 years experience. I went back to school in my thirties because of a stagnant career. I planned on working in a hospital, but life had other plans and I ended up as a school speech pathologist.
@LQ Plum I tried a career change. Now I’m 50 grand in debt. Still making 1999 wages, and getting to send the government 15% of my “disposable” income every 2 weeks. It’s the land of opportunity, if you aren’t from here or you grow up rich. Otherwise you sit in the slums and make minimum wage like the crap you were born. The only thing that got better was the job is easier. There’s a whole bunch of scholarships if you are an exchange student or came from Asia. That’s ok. I’ll just have an extra 15% tax the rest of my life for trying to dig out of the slums. I lost that war. Now college can stick it.
Several of my friends who are teachers have quit already
Republican legislators at the local, state and federal level have been relentless in their goal of destroying the public education system since the 1980s. Besides a teachers shortage, there are and will be doctor, nurse and all types of first responder shortages.
how are they destroying the public school system?
Teachers are the biggest bunch of crybabies
I have no problem helping with extra cleaning supplies for my kids classes. Ugh this is so sickening. Parents cannot use schools as day cares and expect not to help these teachers.
It would be cool if teachers started doing private tutoring.
National Teacher Shortage has been going on for years, if not decades, how is this considered new News…
This is more than just a virus its about control
When I first went into teaching, they told me that the average career was 3 years, and that the reason is not the students as much as the parents. Now, big talking stupid anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers want teachers to risk their health on top of all the rest. I just retired after 21 years full time and wouldn’t teach in the US for anything. I am developing online coursework but the MAGAts don’t have to worry, they won’t be in your language.
There’s gonna be a lot of stupid young adults in a couple of years. Sign of the American demise.
Soon there’s gonna be a nursing shortage. The unvaccinated better learn ABG’s and how to use a ventilator cuz y’all are the problem. Stay home (unvaccinated) if you’re sick. You don’t wanna mask ur kid, then stay home and teach ur own kid. You cry freedom, then you get sick the healthcare worker should have the right to refuse to care for you. It’s their freedom to let you meet ur maker.
Is it because they’re upset they can’t “work” remotely?
Most teachers hated remote teaching. It was terrible for me, as a speech language pathologist. I retired. I couldn’t do another year of hybrid. It was incredibly stressful. It’s hard to put in hours and hours of prep only to feel your lessons were not effective due to the platform of the internet. I cared about what I did and like all good teachers, reflected on all of my lessons for successes and failures in order to improve my teaching. Remote teaching was far less effective and it was emotionally upsetting to see the most needy students fall further behind.
I don’t know why anyone would want to be a teacher in the USA. Underpaid, many schools in poorer districts are underfunded, kids, especially the teenagers are disrespectful and even violent bullies at times, and then there is the crazy parents. This pandemic was just the icing on the cake as a reason to leave.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/burden.html
354 deaths age 0-17 in 18 months.
2577 age 18-29 in 18 months.
over 85% of those 65 and older have had the vaccine.
Can we just stop the bickering and let this go through the country and those who worry can wear masks, and get vaccinated? This clearly isn’ the end of the world and we are literally ruining anywhere from 2-5% of everyone’s lives (18 months – 2, 3 years???) because this KILLED perhaps up to 1% of seniors who’ve had it. Strongly localized on western nations, like absurdly so; and according to CDC data only 354 kids age SEVENTEEN to ZERO. The CFR for teens and babies is 0.0000118%… 354 out of 30,000,000 million or so…Can we seriously just not question that a country (CHINA) with a population of 1.4 billion only has a death toll of 4636? Have you looked at the death tolls of non-western countries? Nigeria for example, has church gatherings of over 250,000 and up to 1 million weekly in several parts of the country, and has a death toll a bit above 2000, with a population of 200,000,000; GO LOOK AT YOUTUBE FOOTAGE OF VLOGGERS IN 2020/2021. Are they social distancing? LOL. India’s coronavirus wave that supposedly was the end of the world in mainstream media for perhaps a month, 432k deaths with a population of 1.38 BILLION. Health officials are saying that over 2/3rds of indians have covid antibodies. If that was the case, then 910 MILLION indians contracted covid and only 432,000 died. If there is excess deaths why aren’t we finding it from Indians themselves on social media crying out with the dead bodies on the streets?
My mom was a government prostitute instead of a good mother . But she got her pension
You can recycle her . I don’t want to look at her ever again
Remember that . People on pensions can still starve to death if nobody respects them
I dont blame teachers for quitting or leaving for another district
The criteria gets away from studies and is heavily influenced by politics
Schools need to just go virtual.
I left Nursing school in 1974 because I didn’t think the medical health care was really “caring”! I was also a US Navy Nurse care scholarship Candidate . I later became a Special Education teacher, 37 years. After all the school shooting in schools around the country, I said to my fellow teachers” I should have stayed in the US Navy. At least I would have had a helmet and a flack jacket!” Nursing and teaching are heavily female dominated careers! Both are treated with disrespect ! That is exactly why nurses and teachers are leaving their fields!
There won’t be anyone working this time next year bc of the forced jab ,2/3 of Americans are gonna walk away ,society as we know it will be done by spring
We don’t need teachers anymore. It’s just something to do after a college screws you out of tons of money and hands you a b.s. degree. We can learn online with AI or even youtube. Stop thinking so 20th century
I was a teacher got out of that profession. Pay us better! Exactly overworked and underpaid. Yes, we had to buy supplies for the students. Yes, we had to work 70 hrs a week. Yes, we have to take a 2nd job to make ends meet. I think my final straw was I couldn’t even afford to buy a home or rent a home. Does a homeless teachers make sense to anyone.
Im a stayed at home mom . I’ve been a private teacher for my children since the begining of the pandemic and it is really stressful for me. I cant imagine how stressful it is for a teacher of 20+ student with various type of children.
What babies
Virtual school, safety for everyone
That’s not new Mr. Teachers have always bought their own supplies
The original teacher is the parent, don’t have children unless you know what you’re doing ✌🏼
Some of my friends are substitute teachers. They were offered a pay raise and permanent positions, but then they realized another problem: common core math (which they know nothing about).
Teacher shortage and bus driver shortage. Many retired or refused to come back. Its going to take years to recover. If this Delta version hits kids pretty hard schools may go virtual again.
Less pay for district office workers and more pay for teachers.
Covid Frustrations Lead To National Teacher Shortage
Teacher quitimg left & right bc dont agree w teaching crt
HOORAY FOR NO TEACHERS! THEY ARE JUST A WASTE OF SPACE AND ARE LAZY AND SOME MOLEST THEIR PUPILS! STAY HOME KIDS!
Good. Break these Marxist indoctrination camps.
Teachers buying supplies but also a lot of wasted materials..some schools through away so many materials Crayola, papers and school notebooks barely used. The amount of waste is and not properly used is a disgrace.
I’m going into teaching this year. In fact I two interviews tomorrow. My first might be my toughest year… 😮😮😮Darn covid 😫😫😫😫.
One thing this story did not cover is about online instruction from home like we saw in 2020. I think keeping and recruiting teachers would be much easier if they could teach virtually online as a permanent process.
I’m curious. If you ask them I bet most would agree to stay under those conditions. I think the physical school environment is, in many cases is too stressful and too unpleasant.
The reason for a teacher shortage is more than that 👎🏾 I am out
I don’t blame some of the teachers
They dont teach anything useful anyway.
Glad trillions of dollars went to Covid relief. Give money to anyone but hospitals and schools.
i wish all teachers would resign. politics have no place in the classroom.
drug addicts get free needles while teachers need to beg for school supplies.
Im a career nanny of over 20 years. Only have a GED, no college. I make as much as many teachers in my state that have master degrees 😳 I’m not over paid. It’s pathetic what we teach these professionals.. If you’re a teacher reading this, know that your amazing and I recognize your commitment to the students. Thank you.
Pay for their teaching credentials!!!! Train people who work in other positions to become teachers. Help after school program activity leaders just move into teaching positions
