Cell phone video captured the moment 15-year-old Lauryn Ham was violently struck by an opposing team’s player during a high school basketball game in Los Angeles. Ham’s mother said, “these type of actions can’t can’t go unexcused. I mean, there has to be consequences for this type of brutal attack.” NBC News’ Vaughn Hillyard reports.

The one who suckered punch should be put into jail. Just because you are a minor does not mean you should not be punished by law. I am so sick of these minors that think it is ok to bully, hit or harm anyone whenever they feel like it. I am sick and tired of the school does punishment like suspended, expelled, ISS( in school suspension) or kicked off the team. That’s bull crap. This is just a game. It should be done in fun and safe. You get some teams who come in an are abusive to other players or they are playing to rough. Alot of times referees don’t do anything about it but turn their heads. One of my children played soccer not basketball. One kid had kicked my child so hard that torn the meniscus in the knee. It took 3 surgeries to get it better. When minors show to much roughness in a sport, you take them out immediately. They are not safe to themselves or others. If a child is to aggressive in a game then they need to be put aside and go through some sort of aggressive management before allowing to play any sports again. This may seem harsh but it will teach a child that this type of behavior is not acceptable. They need to be taught that a sport is a game to enjoy, have fun, to be safe and to be safe towards others. It teaches a child the true meaning of sportsmanship and playing together as a team. It is to play and have utmost fun. It is not to play to willfully and intentionally to use the sport as a way to hurt or harm another child. Whether this happens in a school, club, etc.
