They’ve done this for years. So wrong.
HIDDEN FEES ARE UNETHICAL
LAS VEGAS IS THE WORST ADVERTISING ROOM PRICES BUT MARK THEM UP $20 A NIGHT FOR HIDDEN “RESORT FEES”
💩
yeah they do it’s ridiculous
“in the fine print”
Screw the customer as much as possible.
Hotels raising room rates and fees yet they can’t keep staff because of low wages…3-4 years ago I regularly stayed at Hartsfield (ATL) Hilton Garden Inn for around $85 a night King bed….Like the location for work and seeing friends related travel. Best rate I can find now is $140-$150…As an HONORS member I will pay even more if I want to use points.
Need to be in Fort Lauderdale soon. Booking with Hilton direct will cos me almost $50 more for a two night stay than using a booking site.
I stayed at Marriott in SF. They told me wifi was free when I checked in. I maybe used the wifi once during my stay. They later charged me $5 extra on my bill. It took some time but I found they charged me for wifi. I argued and got the charge deducted . BS
L
Marriott has been terribly disappointing the last several years. What happened? Once upon a time, they were the best. Their membership points program was excellent. The last time I stayed at a Marriott property a couple years ago it was terrible. Poor property condition and poor service at premium rates.
😂😂 I never stay at that dump !
Signal isn’t always the best. Hotel phones work great for back-ups.
Shut up
Doublespeak from the overlords
Thanks Joe Biden!
I think your forgetting the other 54 names prior to him if this is who you’re blaming in allowing this one single issue they’ve been getting away with.
I believe the actual culprit for these kinds of legal scams, shiesty heists and mini extortions being done by America’s greedy corporations on the hard working, barely paid with little respect to America’s workers, is CAPITALISM!
Lolz they give u only rates, not the overall
I stayed on Miami Beach. When I checked in they told me they had to hold 200 dollars a day. I was there for 4 days that’s 800 dollars extra. I didn’t bring that much money with me. So it ruined my vacation.
Incidental holds are def common practice.
You don’t have a credit card?
@Dominick some people aren’t that fortunate to have a credit card but to hold $200 A DAY is unheard of
Las vegas has so many of these. It should be illegal. Stealing from their own customers.
This practice is probably common for resorts and near tourist attractions. I recently traveled for work and stayed in a few hotels in four southern states. They were not near any tourist attractions and mostly 3 star hotels with many business travelers. They don’t charge such fees. I think the more upscale the hotel, the more fees they charge for things like WiFi, breakfast and parking.
Government should do her job with hotels.
The biggest fees are the taxes the hotels have to pay the city/state they are located in.
Omg thanks for this information I had no idea this is WHY they were charging this.
Yes the government needs to step in and stop this crap because not all of us can’t afford for us poor people a hotel stay even for one night is a huge luxury and that is ridiculous they’re charging you to wash the towels that is really despicable and disgusting these rich stuff suits need to wake up and smell the roses before I shove the thorns up their noses
Myrtle Beach resorts are terrible for this. Add on resort fees can get pretty high. Learned that first hand.
Housekeeper’s get $8.50/hr. & they only have 22 minutes to clean each room. 3 rooms cleaned for $6 after taxes, & the room goes for $200 in peak season.
Why are they allowed to even legally make these fees “mandatory” in the first place?
This reminds how colleges and universities tack on all sorts of fees on top of tuition. And since the students are captive they really have no option other than to pay all the fees.
A long time they’ve been doing it I remember working with Marriott Marquis in Manhattan they were paying $31 for five years I’ve been working there when the world corona they called me back to work this year April and told me that they’re going to put the restaurant under a different management and want to cut my pay to $24 while lay keep the big pocket money when they rent a room
They are trying to recover their losses from the pandemic.
They made tons of money during the pandemic.
Hotels need to be regulated on truth in advertising. They know they’re deceptive. If it’s a nightly charge then it’s part of the hotel room cost. As a customer, I google hotels without resort fees and do my best to avoid them, but in places like Vegas, it’s hard to avoid them.
Dark patterns must die.
If a fee is mandatory, it must be included in the rate, period.
It’s even worse than that. There is Tourism (TW) fee that Marriott charges of $0.50/night that they never disclose on all their Marriott-managed hotels. That’s fraud because it’s never disclosed until after check-out.
This makes AirBNB look more attractive for an option than paying for crap you with most likely never use….
Hotels have had it good for too long and now their paying the price.
I’m an ambassador elite and have questioned the “resort fees”. It’s disclosed during checkout but they rarely waive it even if you decline the amenities. I just book elsewhere.
Yes, there are resort fees everywhere and most of the perks I do not use. Las Vegas has resort fees. You see them everywhere.
It’s not just hotels but Penske moving company here in Missouri has raised Thier prices for Thier smallest truck or a van for 24 hrs and drive 30 miles they want 759 dollars unless you drive it back to where to don’t live anymore then it’s a little bit less. You have to book ahead if time the longer out you reserve then it’s a little less. They told me it’s so high because of the unloaded ships sitting at docks. I was told they are lying that they are gouging prices and blaming it on unloaded ships. I say it’s a cover up to gouge prices.
The cost of resort fees in Las Vegas range from $20 to $60 per night. It doesn’t make any sense.
and it doesn’t even cover parking that used to be free everywhere in Vegas.
The hotel tonight app lists the resort fees that exist at many hotels in various cities.
Just refund the charges on your credit card after. Pretty simple actually. Leave it to the hotels to prosecute
Marriot is a known awful “high end” hotel lol. I would rather stay at the Hotel 6
Everything more expensive due to Biden and his administration. He only has 38% approval rating. He doesn’t care about the American people.
All they want is money power fir themselves.
Also watch out for additional local taxes that get add at check out.
Lol this has been going on for years I live in Las Vegas and they have resort fees of $30-$40 a night for using the pool and Wi-Fi even if it’s off-season
Vegas has been charging resort fees which is what they are doing. They even tax on top of these fees.
“No you lose it.” I cringed 😬
Ive worked at a mariott for a long time and think the fees are nothing!. You need to worry about the maids using the same gloves to clean the toilet and the rest of the room!. Wholy crap!.
If you see $21, $33, $45 online per night low Rates. Remember to add a Zero.
$210, $330, $450 say 3 days 2 nights.
Las Vegas is worse! we’ve stayed at a few… Most recent was Luxor, and we got a package deal for $350 for 3days/2nights (and included airfare for round trip from Seattle), and at checkout there more than 1 hidden fee. They told me it was “state tax fee” or something PLUS the Amenity fee. We paid the $350 online before leaving Seattle, but at checkout they gave me a $65 bill (which i didn’t have cash anymore because we spent it all on food, etc as budgeted and then told me they’ll just charge the card on file from paying online (which wasn’t even mine… Mom paid for Birthday trip) causing an OVERDRAFT at the bank and THAT WAS $35.00 fee MORE we weren’t expecting.
Fees upon checkout wasn’t mentioned online, nor did they inform us when we CHECKED-IN… TOTAL SURPRISE having to pay basically $100.00 in fees AFTER we we “done playing & headed home (i could’ve set THAT $$$ aside if i would’ve known i’d be making a 2nd payment in which i had no heads-up about)
They DEFINITELY need to do something about it. I hope it DOES affect all the other hotels!
How about we not use hotels or not travel
I work front desk at hotel. And the fees are insane. We even have a tourism tax that started this summer.
There’s no need for extra fees.
1.) less employees working= less salaries paid out
2.) less housekeepers = less laundry services
3.) rooms still full with less overhead =profit + hidden fees🤔
We barely use any of the “amenities “ whenever we stay with Marriott. I hope the lawsuits go through.
Thank you Brandon for the high cost of living. I love high gas prices 👍
I’m cool with that fee as long as there is that 30$ credit. But it should be clearer what it’s for.
I love staying in hotels and probably spend a month or more in them every year for the last 10 years. If you search for deals on different travel websites you can find great hotels for cheap. Especially if your flying and renting a car.. when finding a hotel with these fees make sure understand before what comes with the fees.. and make sure you use them.
These fees are more at the high end hotels.
I’m not traveling anyways so I’ll be completely fine, and happy.
it will make people book with third party apps and buy hotel points to use Hotel apps
It’s BOYCOTT time
It should be presented at check in if you want to use the amenities and pay the extra fees
maybe the inflated China virus deaths have something to do with this…
So it’s an AD after all
I think this lawsuit, among others, will result in no change to the entire situation, even if Marriott admits to “deceptive pricing”. Primarily, this would be because the practice of adding mandatory fees, whether properly disclosed or not, is not outright prohibited by law, at any level of government. Why? Because the hotel chains have lobbyists to prevent Congress from ever making it a priority, and because state legislators would never touch the issue because it brings in hotel tax revenue. My opinion is that if they collect tax on the fee, it should be included in the room rate, because that’s how room rate tax laws are written. But since those laws omit any mention of the brilliant invention of added fees, hotel chains have “complied” with tax collection to avoid the ire of state governments, and the states have thereby ignored lawsuits against the practice.
Yup. America in a nutshell
Do you bend over at the counter? Or is there a room in the back?
Vegas is the worst for this. Rooms will often be priced lower than the resort fees, which is incredibly misleading.
Oh! These have been around for a long time especially in tourist areas ex: amenity fees, resort fees and etc. It has been happening long ago so not new. So it is important when book anything look in their description what covers and what is not. For the state, if you only have a certain amount $ on your credit card to be authorized for an incident you should call ahead to check. Depending on the type of hotel, the authorization could be either for a whole stay or per night. That will be released after you check out but may take up to 7 business days. Not every place will have free wifi or a free coffee maker, etc. It does say in the breakdown when you scroll down in the room what will charge. Also, Make sure you look at the type you book if you like something specific because the price could be different. Once you book if the hotel sold out it may be hard to switch. So make sure you look at all the fees before booking!!
It’s not a freebie if you literally pay for it. Also, I’m curious what the case will be because hotels in Vegas do this. They disclose the fee but it is not included in the base room rate and that’s hundreds of hotels and it seems like these hotels disclose the fee but people aren’t used to it. Consumers might not be used to looking at their statements as carefully but that’s a lesson for everyone unfortunately.
City tax…county tax…mayor’s tax…diversity tax….lgbtq tax…taliban funding tax…biden groping tax…biden daughter showering with biden tax.
Hotels do it cause it’s unregulated and no one stops them. You can ask them to waive it. Always book directly through the hotel. Marriot was purposely blocking private wifi signals to force customers to use their wifi. You would think they would learn their lesson.
They making up for lost revenue from the height of the lockdowns.
Airlines do that all of the time.
yeah they charge me 480$ pre stay
All because of Democrats
It’s flat out EXTORTION, extracting more and more money out of hardworking Americans. Pretty soon there will be a fee to breathe the Oxygen on their properties.
OMG, EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED

The amenities are included with price of the stay, not extra fee, it’s a scam
It’s disclosed before you pay and the industry has has “record fees”. This story is a joke.
I always check the fee and…….. parking
Those fees have been there forever why is this barley brought up 🤷🏻♂️
Motel6 it is for the poor like me
So doest that mean guests can help themselves to the mini-bar and not have to pay $22.00 for a small bag of stail Funyuns. Will those hotels provide free shipping for guest to send robes, towels, and patio furniture to thier homes. It only seams fair. Hotels are parasites that exploit their employees and the consumer any way they can.
This are hotel fees are used all hotels. Hotel and casinos are killing the public.
In a capitalist society you have a responsibility to vote with your wallet. I don’t stay at hotels that have these fees, period, its not that hard. If everyone actually put their money where their mouth is these fees would go away immediately and we would have transparent pricing.
I would be calling all over the world and eating up the food invite people because am having a pool party
Please understand that most hotels require a “incidental fee” on top of your room and tax. The incidental fee can either be $25, $50, $75+ depending on location. This is if you were to charge items to the room- or if the room was damaged. If neither happens- the incidental fee hold- is released upon checkout. It may take up to 7 business days to be released.
Again- each hotel has a different process. But this is the general operation.
