I’m a Mechatronics student and yes this shortage is major. We need to work together to create more jobs in the semiconductor industry. ☺️☺️
The problem is the school of semiconductor is very few. The biggest concentration is in the world’s hub of semiconductor such as the US, China, India, Singapore, Taiwan, and South Korea.
Teach me how to make a chip at home
Where are chips & components up/recycled by telecom ‘upgrade trade-ins’ (eg iPhone) and tech recycle prog (eg Apple; Dell)? Where’s up/recycling occurring.. if at all?
a lot of times, the chips are fried and don’t work anymore.
cnbc, long video with lot of animation needs greedy software that eats lot of memory that is chips
I don’t see having demand decrease being the best solution because when firms see that demand decrease then they cut supply and that is part of the reason we are where we are today. The only way I see demand decrease helping is if firms take the time estimating demand will come back strong and prepare enough supply for the demand. I doubt this is a viable solution because if demand does not come back then firms face losing out on profits.
Exactly – this is just normal supply-demand reblance
How much is CNBC paying to do this high school level presentation?
You think you are smart?
I actually quite enjoy it
Well by your profile pic it looks like you are either a semiconductor fan or an expert but everyone here is not like you, they have very little knowledge about it and hence cnbc is talking about it only on surface level
My perspective on this is that tech is unwittingly a means to an end. The end of white supremacy, the end of the Modern Inquisition, the reassertion of Native languages, traditions, cultures, societies and civilizations, and Native sovereignty. After this is done, then the tech will be stopped and then destroyed and somehow disposed of properly, back into the earth. The point is, all this is a huge mistake.
22min video on the chip market and you never say the word TAIWAN.
SMH.
@Zaydan Naufal This is my kind of smart funny. But scary reality, too.
They only mentioned tsmc and Samsung twice or fewer. These two companies are chip manufacture giants and share over 60 % of high end chip market.
What are you talking about? He stated he’s currently in Guangzhou, so try putting yourself in his position.
Or cryptocurrencies
@danny trials the host is so afraid to be arrested and send to Xinjiang concentration camp if he mentioned Taiwan
This is the best analysis on the chip shortage problem.
Lol. Good joke
Dont forget that china wants tawain and if war breaks out, you bet they are going after tsmc in tawain. Chinas chip company went bankrupt recently and china is hungry for power.
thanks to bitcoin miners.
Idiots corporation will keep raising prices
blame the US government
@Giordan Diodato So if a company raises its prices to make more profit I should blame the government? The government doesn’t control everything, otherwise it would be called communism!
@David exactly. This is a free market. Anybody who is willing to pay the best price wins. During down markets, OEMs has no issue pushing price down. I work in the semiconductor biz.
@Jack Lee Car manufacturers had no problem dropping their orders like hot potatoes to save a few cents as soon as they thought a downturn might be coming. You snooze you lose!
I work in electrical utility networks supplying cable terminations and joints and I have to order everything 16 weeks in advance. I never cancelled any of our orders or cut back on ordering, now we are back to normal we are getting more business because we’ve got the stock and our competitors don’t. You snooze you lose!
Tax, Kerry it a tax.
Microprocessors. Yes those. You don’t know what they are, I don’t know what they are who gives a f?
-Departed
Man I love that scene!
Love that movie
There being put into an army
Small Soldiers
Just close factories
We dnt need chips
Are you kidding Wong, China has resort to smuggling microchips out of Japan twenty at a time. It is ridiculous.
Oh my!🙀I sure hope it doesn’t cut in to the chips used for government surveillance of us.
Wth?
So apparently there is a shortage of chips because the chip makers are concentrating on higher value chips like iPhones and computers, yet I can’t get hold of a PS5 a year after it was released. What gives?
Priorities, like iphone chips will have be prioritized instead of ps5 and xbox.
@Lordanonimmo I would have thought PS5 and Xbox chips would be in the “high value” category myself. Might be wrong though as Apple has a lot more profit margin in their iPhones to pay to chip makers than Sony does with the PS5 or Microsoft with the Xbox.
@David Ps5 and Xbox chips are mainly at the high value category, but not bleeding edge anymore, that’s reserved for apple chips.
Also iphone will sell more in a year, than the ps5 or xbox in their lifetime of 7 years, and the iphone in general costs more.
22 min of blah blah blah. could have been covered in 4 min. maybe less.
Stop making so many iPhone models and crap laptops.
Ikr. Get it right the first time
It’s so sad that we are in shortage of chips, but as a scrapper we scraped a lots of chips from old e-waste.
intel left the bleeding edge about 5 years ago.
Intel admitted that he has lost the leading status in semiconductor business. The top player is tsmc of Taiwan, Asia.
There is no chip shortage. This is a trade war issue.
Ding ding ding! TAIWAN! Sing it w me people! This is all non-violent war and Formosa is at the heart of it.
and the fact that taiwan has had a drought. and lockdowns.
This is bs, just get the chips back out A few out of control communists want to make buying products too expensive and force people into an item rental market. No one is interested in this rental market idea and we get this pathetic sabotage attempts , how many more factories are “accidentally” going to burn down. Another attack on democracy. Trying to take away people’s right to own items.
We demand China and Taiwan to make chips on own terms and schedule. Or else.
I like that idea
Crashing legacy automotive sales should help. 😉
Why can’t they make the chips here or South Korea Vietnam etc instead of China
They’re making chips everywhere, not just in China..
@Yohanes Christian I know but it’s not enough and prices with inflation and everything right now are crazy
I’m simply spitballing efficiency ideas
@Brett Davidson most come from Taiwan not China..
Taiwan has basically made itself indispensable for everyone’s supply of cutting edge chips as a bargaining chip against China. AMD were able to produce better processors than Intel by abandoning the process node race and just outsourcing to TSMC that grew big from the smartphone boom.
I think these guys are just regurgitating talking points. They don’t understand the nuts and bolts like referring to Moore’s Law like it is a real law shows he doesn’t get it.
The reason our supplies are dwindling is because the Biden Administration and Democrats are in a trade war with the American people. They are weakening Americans by this trade embargo they’ve imposed on us by stripping our wealth. Closing small businesses and creating hyper inflation cutting our wages.
They have declared war on us without formally declaring war on us.
I just want a new graphics card and CPU
I’m just okay with an old one😭
Who is John Galt?
chip shortage – is a fairy tale for donkeys. EVs not have such problem. Why?
So, what is the REAL cause of such drops of cars selling? extremely interesting question. What do you think?
may be people NOT have money?
may be they are waiting for EVs? – good opportunity
about chip problem.
All productions have reserve. In ALL World car production is down 20-40%, so need in chips must be less on this 20-40%
“Electric cars especially Tesla use minimum advanced chips to manage car electronic” – WHAT? O_o i this vice versa
i think that corporate governors lie. They can’t say: we are donkeys and produce trash that clients NOT want
coal shortage, chip shortage… I wonder why is everything in shortage after pandemic?
Well that’s what happens when you shut down the economy
Wont hit me personally. I live in Taiwan lol.
No made in China
Maybe the whole tech upgrade/update is going too fast? …
Maybe we should make washers, dryers etc simpler with less electronics. They can be manufactured without chips….so can many many other things…..but we have computerized so many things that probably didn’t need it.
There is really no need for “smart” home appliances.
They also built cars for decades without chips…..
That’s why almost the same amount of vehicles were sold this year, compared to 2019.
Phones are on track to ship out 1.5 billion phones. The same amount as in 2019.
We are almost selling the same amount of the same product as in 2019.
Cars used to be made without CPU’s in them.
And not as many CPU’s were in them after they started using CPU’s, as there are now.
