2 factors that makes China less likely to overtake US as the number 1 power of the world. 1) consequences of 1 child policy, 2) pursue of minimalism following aging of population caused by 1 child policy. Result is China risks to be the next Japan. Japan was set to become the number 1 power in the end of the 20th century, but aged and it’s people became minimalist.
We at the west have been underestimating the power of execution coming out of China under CCP for over 50 years. I don’t think we can still bank on their inability to deal with your aforementioned domestic issues to stop them from overtaking us.
@jian zou so in other words you are saying that China studied the lesson from Japan and has a strategy against aging of its population and relevant loss of productivity and I (or we as the west) am just underestimating it. This is possible. There is also another aspect, big empires (Romans, USA) have always welcomed immigrants (new Americans, new Romans) to rejuvenate the population. I did not see this happening for Japan (Japan is still a society made of people from 1 ethnicity), I do not see that happening with China. I am really curious what’s next in the CCP strategy to overtake US (obviously the conquer of Taiwan but that is not enough).
China has sold loans to many countries in Africa, in return those countries will allow Chinese engineers to build manufacturing warehouses and teach them to produce all the stuff China is no longer interested in making or does not want to make due to increasing enviromental/health benefit standards in China. Chinese CPP will help those poor countries get out of poverty and provide initial tech/health care/infrastructure etc etc. If those countries fail to pay the debt on time then the buildings/supplies/and the land that it is built on will be forfited and become China’s property. China needs to provide the lifestyle that is desirable to make babies. The current model of productivity at all costs is a death sentence to family values and creation of offspring. They are over populated anyways, so it’s actually not even realistic to expect successful child rearing. Especially single child has two aging parents to take care of, and rediculously high social expectations. As well China is probably in the 2nd stage of the capatalism cycle. They have a huge burgeoning middle class that will fight tooth and nail waiting for 4hrs in line ups just to get a chance to shop at a newly opened COSTCO…and having access to things like life insurance and novel ideas they never thought was in hands reach for a commom peasant. Think of NorthAmerica going through the 80’s/90’s but at hyperspeed. In the 90’s 90% of people in China still wore communist colours clothing and rode dinky ratty bicycles on crumbly streest to do anything and everything and used coal / butane to cook on the streets. Most homes/apt back then didn’t even have a shower and lucky to have a toilette and dinky central heating. They common folk there use to always envy Canada and USA they called it the land of the free and luxurious. Now look at where they are…pretty sure they are very hungry to spend away their money since most don’t have children to worry about like their parents did.

I swear these people besides ray are tricked into thinking there blood is `royalty` or something, bloods not loyal. China has to get their house fix first. So many problems within China. So many small and medium private companies have closed down or struggling. They can’t get funding. There’s no VC (Venture Capital) too in China. All these so call VC need guaranteed return (对赌协议） from founder which is unheard of outside of China VC world. They behave like a financial institution but yet operating without financial institution license. The entrepreneur landscape in China is in a very unhealthy state.
If that’s the case why is America so worried about China? What you guys are doing is perfect, spot on, you’ll continue to own the world, and please leave China alone.

The weak questions from our host, made this 50% waste of time…thank god, he wrote the book!
if you want to raise your standard of living, do so by creating more income. You must be more productive. Wealthy folks do not owe you a standard of living to suit your fancy. Play the lottery.
Ray gives crystal clear analysis of the woes of this country and where we’re at today. He also acknowledges that wealth disparity is forget ethical or moral it’s just plain bad for the overall economy and unsustainable. Who knew?? I guess it wasn’t such a good thing that Trump “made all you(billionaires and millionaires) much richer today.”
I understood that the key to making millions is putting something aside for a superior speculation. I generally let myself know you needn’t bother with that way of managing money or vacations at this time. That outlook assisted me with getting more cash contributing. For instance last year I put 80k in stocks (with the assistance of my Financial Advisor obviously Evelyn Monping ) and made around 246k, yet prepare to be blown away. I put everything back and exchanged with her again and presently I’m gathering together near 1,000,000

Do you mean the Big Lie of the Trump dossier? No? Well, the Big Lie of election fraud you posit is probably gonna turn out to the Big Truth about fraud in elections. I guess this interviewer doesn’t care about the lack of Photo IDs and unsolicited mass mailing of ballots to entire voter rolls. How does that not destroy election integrity?
The peaceful transition of power is not the principle. It is the result of free & fair elections that have integrity upon which the citizens can rely. About 1/3 of citizens don’t believe in ballot integrity as internal controls have been eroded over decades. This is how a country moves towards civil war. I hope election integrity can be restored instead of trying to gaslight 1/3 of the citizens and dismiss their concerns.
This would have been one of the most insightful and enlightening video I have ever come across on YouTube. Mr Dalio is looking at the overall picture for the world, but mainly America and China.
His views on US’s political scene is exactly what I had been thinking…An increasingly polarizing and diverging camps. America claims to be the best democracy of the world, but it is now becoming a free-for-all battle ground. Free speech enabled mindless people to say, you guess it, stupid things, and they are protected by law !
Out of this long interview, Mr. Dalio’s opinions on China-US relationship interests me the most. Near the end of this interview, he mentioned the truth which I have often expressed…America shouldn’t spend so much time criticizing and worrying about a rising China. The most practical thing and sensible thing for America to do is to concentrate on it sown internal affairs. I have expressed on YouTube my take on US/China race. I compare it to a marathon race. Two serious contenders for the title are doing their best to take it off the hand of the other. Coaches often tell their charges that “You concentrate on what you have done in your training. You don’t worry about what the other guys are doing.”
America is finding itself being left behind further and further. It panicked. But its problems are deep down. These problems were allowed to fester for the decades while it still believed that it is the best and the #1 of all times. it got ambitious and went to wars, many of them in fact. None of them worth writing home about. While fighting all these losing wars, its own affairs back home are getting less and less attention. America might be the greatest, but honestly it couldn’t successfully prosecute wars and economy at the same time.
A declining America finds itself in trouble back home. So what did it do? It looks for someone to bitch and moan about, and China is the perfect punching bag for US. The bitching, moaning ans smearing won’t help America, but at least it helps to divert Americans’ attentions from the politicians’ failures.
Concentrate on your own race, America. You have more problems back home than you care to know.

I disagree, Ray, your “fact” that “liberals” are more left than previously is not factual. The very wealthy shadow government did not want to deal with Bernie Sanders, so they picked milk toast Biden. And he’s a war hawk to boot! The squad doesn’t change anything, they are a whisper in the dark. The Democratic Party just has “figureheads” opposing the leadership in the Republican Party which also has figureheads, but like all legislators, they are controlled by the power elite. The Repubs have the nasty habit of being anti-democratic in fixing the foundation of our elections to their advantage. And they justify this by claiming that they are the minority party. Both China and US have not done well in handling this transition period. China did not need to flex so damn hard, they could have kept quietly growing through their economy. They really kind of played their hand too early, unless there were other factors we don’t know about forcing them to act quickly. Also, ending term limits is going to make the democratic world nervous no matter what. They were doing great just chugging along. The US reaction was also pretty immature. The way they dealt with Huawei hurts everyone because they made Americans stupider by believing China was going to spy on them through their phones despite the fact that there was zero evidence and that every other smart phone in America is made in China anyway so why aren’t we worried about those? Exposure to Chinese tech would have been good for competition in the long run for the US economy because young people using Chinese tech would be inspired to develop better tech in the US. I got to play with some Huawei phones years ago while in Asia and their cameras were way better than even the current iphones. If they just steal tech, why would their stuff be better? That makes no sense.

That interviewer is a dushbag with riding on the notion of medial propagated ‘facts’. Just because government tries to force us to swallow their version of the ‘truth’, it doesnt mean we will uncritically do so. There are no real debates on climate, corona and what not. Its pretty much top-down and removal of all critics who have a far reach (because they are experts in their fields or prominent people). The fish stinks from its head … and ass.

To the media people which are truly interested in open debates:
- if you think climate change will screw us all and resides within the IPCC forecasts, then run some debate-style formats of various researchers of both (or multiple, there are not just 2) camps and explain how their models work in a simplyfied manner. I studied computer science and had a bunch of physics but most people dont understand non-linear differential equation systems etc. On the other hand they should accept massive changes to their lifes because media shouts at them to blindly believe everything? That is not gonna work. You have to do the hard work and convince people and not playing the fear-card all the time
- same applies to corona. I see alot of fake news in broad media, stuff that never was true and still isnt, even the official data speaks another language, yet media is now for 2 years riding the fear-wave. Wow.
- Why pushing 'diversity' 'gender' and left-identitary politics so hard and is it a coincidence that it all comes now? And the big push for illegal mass migration? Probably its not the best idea to tell the people that you want to weaken the conservative camp/national identity and import cheap labor slaves to counter demographics
Dalio is right on many things. But one place where he is wrong is making an equivalence of right and left extremism in the United States. Clearly the right is moving into extreme, even violent territory. But the Democratic party is not a leftist party by international standards or by US historical standards. Both parties have moved to the right, even if the majority of the population, when queried on individual issues, have not. And by the right, I mean support of corporate entities to evade taxes and reasonable regulations, leading them to treat ordinary working people and the environment badly. Both parties give lip service to the workers, but give no real policy relief to their increasingly desperate situation
