Thousands of people have heeded calls by Mali’s military rulers for a nationwide protest against sanctions by the West African economic bloc, ECOWAS. The sanctions were imposed after the country’s military coup leader delayed elections – due next month – until 2025.
The military government asked the public to demonstrate, calling the measures extreme.

Because, like the West, they’re tired of war, death and destruction, a continuum inflicted by corrupt leaders that care not for their people as they care for their bank accounts. Your problems are not with the West, can’t speak for Russia, but rather are a direct result of destructive policy decisions by ineffective leadership and by the inept ability displayed by the citizens of Mali to hold its leaders to account. The West does not want to be involved in your affairs, god knows, the struggles they incur solving their own domestic affairs. The West spends billions of dollars in Africa feeding the hungry, providing services for the injured, well being for mothers and healing the sick. I am Ghanaian, who lived for 10 years in francophone Africa and I support Mali and Assimi Goita.
The problem in West Africa is France and their puppet presidents. Read up on France- Afrique and how France bleeds Africa dry and uses mercenaries to destabilise African countries and assassinate leaders who do not toe the line.
Let’s be clear that these ECOWAS / CEDEAO sanctions were imposed on Mali, under the direction of France because ECOWAS is led by and made up of mostly spineless French/ Western neocolonial puppets posing as African leaders, when in fact, they represent the interests of their masters.
These sanctions are unjustified, as the majority of Malians support the military junta, led by Assimi Goita, so the real question here is why does France and ECOWAS insist on these draconian sanctions, which are designed to bring suffering on ordinary malians?
We know “a return to democratic rule” is merely an excuse here, as France has a record of supporting undemocratic military regimes like we have in Chad or seasoned dictators like Biya of Cameroon or the likes of Alassane Ouattara of Côte d’Ivoire , who received Macron’s blessing to change the constitution and stand for a third term. So, France is in no positon to preach democracy here and neither are the bunch of neocolonial stooges aka West African leaders, who make up the ECOWAS.
Mali is fighting for real independence from France and that’s why France is punishing them.
The only reasonable explanation for the sanctions is that France wants to pressure Mali to organise elections quickly so it can hijack the democratic process as usual and install another puppet…yep, you guessed it, it is all about French interests!… And that’s precisely why the military junta are digging in and prolonging the transition period as they don’t want to hand power to another French puppet!
So you are really mistaken siding with Ecowas, a neocolonial institution led by France. Akuffo Addo is a western puppet and that’s why they praise him all the time.
We must as Africans support our brothers and sisters in Mali, unite for the full economic liberation of Africa.

Where are the examples of military rule creating peace in the safest nations in the world ? In fact, are even the most stable nations in Africa democratic or under military rule ? If there is something I am missing that makes Mali unique from other countries, please let me know. Last I checked, military rule hasn’t worked too well on the continent. Also, if Malians choose military rule, things go downhill (like in most countries with military rule) and Malians start running to democratic nations for help ??? You might as well ask the French to come back and take over Mali at that point. I don’t see how that would be a good thing. I want Malians to run Mali and for the country to prosper.
