A state of emergency has been declared in Burkina Faso, a day after the country’s second military coup in eight months. The ousted President Paul-Henri Damiba – who was ousted last night by a faction of the military – has called on the country’s self-appointed leader to avoid a ‘fratricidal war’. Thousands of people have heeded calls by Mali’s military rulers for a nationwide protest against sanctions by the West African economic bloc, ECOWAS.
