In my opinion, the best solution would be an EU agreement (without the US) with the Russians, affirming the guarantee of neutrality forever for Ukraine, Georgia and Belarus (just as Finland is today and has never been threatened by the Russians), special status for Russians residing in Donbass, as well as ethnic Russians from Georgia, in contrast to the departure of Russian troops from Ossetia and the return of Donbass to the Ukrainian government. NATO is an American tool and it broke all agreements long before Putin was president!
