When Cabbage Patch Kids burst on the scene in 1983, the dolls flew off the shelves as shoppers fought to get their hands on one. Forty years later, the popular dolls have been inducted into the “Toy Hall of Fame.” NBC News’ Joe Fryer has a look at how the “Kids” have remained popular all these years later.

Good times no iPhones only dolls and Nintendo
It’s great to see representation of Down’s Syndrome children in the toy isle.
Nice
Xavier Roberts was NOT the creator of these dolls, shame on you NBC for not doing your research and presenting the truth.
My mom got a couple of these. I didn’t really care for them, and my daughter was just an infant.
However, 10 years later, I got into the Beanie Baby craze when they came out in 1993. I never experienced that kind of chaos. But, I spent hours and hours in line waiting for many Beanies. I think the longest wait time was 5 hours.
In 1999, I spent 16 hours in line for a midnight showing of Star Wars: Episode 1. I got the last 2 tickets, putting the theatre at full capacity. Talk about luck. That was the most fun I had at a movie. Getting to know people, saving places in line, and sharing food and drinks. Inside, people had the audience doing the wave, waving their lightalsabers, clapping and yelling. That was the last Star Wars movie I saw. I didn’t want to ruin that experience.
Wow, Thank you for sharing that 🙏
A Beanie Baby collector and seller finally sold the last Beanie Baby a few months ago a rare one. And from McDonald’s Happy Meal.
I have one! A girl with brown hair like in clip. I called her Beth because she had brown hair like my mom.
I still have that doll 40 years later .
I remember being with my mother at the mall on a Saturday and being filled with joy and happiness when she suprised me and bought me one like it was yesterday.
My moronic Southern relatives sank thousands of bucks into investing in Cabbage Patch dolls. “Safer than the stock market,” they told me. What they didn’t lose on these dolls they lost a few years later buying Hummel figurines.
It happened again with the Tickle Me Elmo !!
now how do we get GARBAGE PAIL KIDS into the THoF???? 🫨🫨🫨

I still have my original Cabbage Patch doll that I got in 1986. I live in Atlanta and always wanted to visit Babyland General Hospital but never went. However, I visited for the first time in 2021 and have been going every year since! I adopted a new Cabbage Patch baby from there in 2021 and my sister found one in Goodwill in 2022. I now have a family of 3 and I love all of them!❤❤❤
lol I had one at 10 years old 😂😂Patty
I had a Lamb chop cabbage patch as a little girl and wish I still had it.😭
I still have mines! It’s still in good shape. I use to have the baby carrier and the original box but when I moved away my parents got rid of them sadly. Good thing I moved with my doll 🥰
always wanted “my buddy” & “kid sister”. dad said toys were a waste of $$ 😔https://youtu.be/ukM5ZnvY-bA?si=V4Y3TKYAXCjw2bZx
I still have mine from when I was 5. I’m 34 now😊

Seems like a no brainer for the hall of fame.
babyland general hospital is in GA?!? all the years i spent living in augusta, if i’d known, i’d have definitely taken the 3 hr trip to cleveland! 😩
I gave my Granddaughter one. I wonder if she still has it. She now has three girls and
one son. I will have to ask her. I don’t remember having a hard time finding one. 🤔
