I have to be sincere. Despite the fact that I’m Greek, I have to give it to Turkey for beign a sovereign nation that positions its national interests first. It has achieved to distance itself from sanctioning Russia, just because NATO says so, while at the same time not loosing the West’s respect and trustfulness, and functioning as a diplomatic transit hub between the two belligerent countries. Not to mention the fact that even Jens Stoltenberg attented the Antalya Diplomatic Forum. On the other side, our completely incapacitated and treacherous government, not only did it followed blindfolded the way that the Western Institutions paved in order to punish Russia, but our PM sent military equipment to Ukraine for no reason at all. Thus Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Greece will be severely depleted in the tourist periods and that in any other potential geopolitical discrepancy between us and Turkey, it will support Turkey.

I’m fairly sure this situation won’t last forever and you’ll get some level headed leaders who will work in the national interest of their voters instead of the national interests of other powers.

Russian air defense systems are very tight while their offensive capabilities are behind the west by decades. We can see that in the military operation in Ukraine. Russia is relying on MIG-31 and Su 24 which are produced in the eighties. Purchasing Russian air defense system is a great choice because this what the Russian excel at in terms of conventional capabilities.

It’s pretty darn clear. Turkey considered NATO as an ally against all adversaries. However, NATO considers Turkey a partner against Russia-only, and fears the day when Turkey allies with other Arab nations.
So, Turkey buy from Russia is like buying from the only enemy designated to Turkey by NATO. And, at the same time, do not trust Turkey to stick with the European-side. But, Turkey’s attitude is ‘Russia is not an enemy and hadn’t invaded any NATO countries’. Meanwhile, Turkey has to look after her overall air defense.
