#Tennessee #Nurse #AccidentalDeath
The nurse was empowered to override so she took it at her discretion. It is a malpractice, a judgment error to override. It is not homicide that is defined as deliberate killing.
so they do have computer controlled meds yeah? I would think they would..
There is involuntary homicide and criminal negligence.
Nothing worse than a Nurse on a Power Ego Trip. “Overriding” LOL I was almost killed by one when I had brain surgery. This wasn’t just a mistake or error, she did not do her job and was heartless it cost someone her life. Nurses are supposed to care about the patients, not just their ego.
Exactly
I’m a certified nursing assistant level two in North Carolina I have my medication aid and medication tech mission certification. I pass out medication to my residents and patients every day. I double checked the MAR and all the nurses communicate with each other just in case there is a error or something is pending. I always ask no matter what if I have a question if it’s the correct medication or incorrect medication or even if the doses changed. This is really scary I feel that part of the hospital is to blame something went wrong with the MAR and med cart.
This always happens and I’m glad they prosecute ppl in otherwise untouchable jobs. Enough immunity cos mistakes this terrible should never be made. Usa needs reform so much.
This country is litigious, its becoming everything we do
Kinda makes you wonder how many of them did an oopsie, killed a patient and got away with it
This is not a blow to the nursing profession, this is about psychopathy! And sending a message those narcissists in the field enabling each other.
What happened. I didn’t know that nurses were perfect human beings…… We all make mistakes. ….. Why is your life over because you made a mistake……..
Give nurses a raise and and IQ test because they’re underpaid , if they were any wiser they would be doctors
Nurse confused those particular meds? Why are nurses crying everywhere? You’re accessing medication that didn’t apply to this patient’s diagnosis or location?
Who wrote the order for the medication? Did the patient’s chart have notes about the reason diagnosis for the prescription order?
Who took off the order? Was it the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) dysfunction that was the root cause of wrong medication? This EMR must be challenged, many are faulty when doctors and nurses are blamed.
defund the police, prosecute nurses and hire people that are only women and a minority race. this should make our collapse quicker. congrats we are becoming what all our insider traitors wanted us to be
Nurses are overworked but you can’t play games with Peoples lives
Take note that the dumb bird doesn’t want accountability based off her not guilty to all 3 charges
I got some good news for the nurses, let me make something very clear ,you f*** around one of my family member or make a mistake you won’t have to worry about the courts, you’re going to worry about me when you leave work
She should be in jailed. She killed a patient!
If a hospital gives a nurse the power to override the medication dispenser, wouldn’t it be the hospital’s responsibility as well? Isn’t that a malpractice thing?
Of course hospital had bunch of lawyers that nurses have to sign so they’re free from their negligence. Hospitals are really ugly when it comes to denials of any mistakes they made and they (their team of lawyers and damage control admins) even train doctors and nurses to lie and what to say and what not to say. So hospitals are covered. They make mistakes all the time and even then most of the time patients don’t know. I’m glad this nurse was held accountable for making 17 mistakes. Ridiculous actually how grossly negligent she was.
@KittenBowl, I was not aware that she made that many mistakes.
Money talks , hospital did not even report to the state the med error. They fired the nurse immediately to avoid the problem
GLAD SHE IS BEING HELD RESPONSABLE FOR THIS PATIENTS DEATH ! AND 17 OTHERS???
3x to 6x years for someones life, seems very fair based on the circumstances.
She is a murderer.
Well, nobody wants to be a nurse now. Why should there?
That’s why I won’t help people any job that you’re helping people you can be held responsible
Bye killer
Ugh 😣
No do your job right the first time.
Nurses have to be watchdogs for themselves, patients and doctors. I once had doctor rattle off a list of medications to give an out of control teenager, as a nurse I evaluated the consequences and suggested I give a lesser dose first this probably save that patient undue problems. Nurses have a tremendous responsibility for patients that the public does not always realize.
s

Some nurses are human beings and some human beings are negligent and bad
Too all the Nurses who think you’re God..Guilty Guilty Miserable Neglectful HUMANS ACCOUTABLE HUMANS
SOUNDS LIKE TERRORISM HOLD YOUR OATH HOSTAGE SO YOU WON’T BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE..
Good verdict for once
Unbelievable ! Should have been a cop.
Amazing that a cop and shoot you and not be charged. Gross neglect by a police officer and agency should lead to charges. Don’t punish nurses
I think the verdict is right! People can make mistakes, but some mistakes you HAVE TO PAY FOR! That’s life. If anything this should make others be on top off their game.
She did pay for the death. She lost her job. Then she lost her nursing license. She can no longer practice as a nurse. There was no criminal intent behind this death. She is no threat to society. She should have never been criminally charged. The family did not want her charged. This should have only been a malpractice issue.
Well then I can guarantee you this as a nurse and a patient nobody will be reporting their mistakes anytime soon! Which doesn’t go well for the patient or their family! So sad when you see something like this happen and this young lady was honest and told what she had done right away she has remorse she did not mean to do this and this is what you get in the medical industry keep your mouth shut see something say nothing! I was going to say she can’t be the only one alone to take fault for all 17 mistakes she was not the only person in that room!!
Parr of being honest is taking responsibility for the consequences of your actions. She took a mans life. This was more than an “oopsie”
Glad the attorney general pointed out it was not ONE mistake and showed the upteen amounts of safety steps put into place🐢🐢🐢cara
COPS Cops cops …..
should fear THIS!!!!! CAMARAS NEEDED on all CRITICAL Workers!
I am sorry about this it is very sad I am sure she didn’t mean to hurt anyone we all make mistakes but to send here to prison isn’t the answer if she need punishment let God do it
She looks careless in general.
This nurse didn’t make just a mistake, she ignored protocol and broke 17 hospital rules. I believe ignorance and overconfidence was in play as well.
And we know that hospital rules are ALWAYS consistent and never contradictory. Yeah, sure. That is why there is an OVERRIDE system.
This wasn’t overconfidence, or ignorance.. these hospitals need to get their technology up to date that medications can be accessible when a patient needs them.. this was day in and day out of pharmacy not coming to fix the pixies, medication not being sent to the unit, nursing shortage, being floated to a unit you don’t work on, and a nurse that just wanted to get through her shift.. every nurse on that unit overrode medication all day long because the system is so slow and you can’t take care of your patients because nothing works right.
It’s about time that some nurses should be accountable and pay the price for their negligence care on their patient. Don’t get me wrong, I highly admire and respect nurse and the work they do. But there are some nurses who don’t care much about their patient safety and I wonder where they got their nursing degree from. I am speaking from experience; I work in healthcare and I deal with nurses in my daily work and the things they do is very alarming for patient safety.
Am I wrong to think that this is deserving of prosecution?
I’m in the hospital an awful lot. I’d rather not fear death every time a nurse gets near my IV. There just isn’t room for errors.
Btw, I’m grateful for the excellent care that I have received. The vast majority of medical personnel are very capable, and kind.
How many?
What about the doctors lmao? I have not heard one thing about them like any drug that are given should be prescribed by the doctor so essentially it is also the doctor fault for prescribing the wrong drug like this hospital shouldn’t have a system in place to prevent such things from happening but instead they let this mistake go and even forgetting about it while this nurse is sitting here being prosecuted. Like surprising to me how much the administrators at this hospital never strive to make the system better.
Only thing scary is Her lack of sympathy.. It’s the reason she went to nursing school so she should know better.. I been in healthcare 20+yrs and you have to read the patient information on what medicine they are due to receive, you can’t just give out stuff without checking..
To err is human. If every medical professional who made a medication error was prosecuted, the system would it be in total collapse because there would be no one left. This sets a dangerous precedent. She should have never been criminally charged. She was a threat to no one. She had already lost her nursing license and could no longer practice as a nurse. The family did not want her charged. As soon as she realized the medication error she made she immediately reported it. She hid nothing.
Now nurses will work better. Some of them don’t care , now they will care more, and hospitals will hire more capable nurses. Getting a Nursing degree online is a joke to all patients health
How come Doctors are not held to does same standards???
There’s always a double signature fingerprint needed for both rockeronium and Merced it should never be overridden it there’s no way it can be overridden..
Yes nurses should be scared it could happen to them. Know better to better. Nurses are our first line defense before we see a doctor. You are that buffer listen to your patients and their family. Nurses do better. I feel some what sorry for her but this will cause nurse to know the 5 R. There should be no over rides. The hospital is not at fault the nurse in the end gave the medicine
Embarrassing.
Why would you not read the medicine you’re administering lmao.
Now the nurses know how the cops feel. 🤷🏻♀️ Sucks! Same as Kimberly Potter.
I thought Nurses were always responsible if they killed a patient 🤔 You mean they are not?
wonderin’ when prosecutors will be held to the same standard when innocent people are convicted?
It’s because of things like this why I opted not to study to become a nurse. Smh
When humans are involved, mistakes will be made. She has the wrong color skin, to make a mistake.
I’ve seen nurses where I worked in different places accidentally give the wrong meds but they did realize it and correct it before a life was lost but it happens
The Justice System is so broken. This was not homicide! Prosecutors and AG’s scare me! The length of where they are willing to go to advance their careers is crazy. The US has a nursing shortage! Good luck finding hospital nurses!
Fake News
override??!!!! all the time?? in what situations is that ok?
There was a systemwide failure at Vanderbilt happening at that time. The EMAR was not communicating with the Omni cell. This means that if you wanted to get a medication out for your patient then you had to override. This is typically only done in emergency situations, but because of Vanderbilt’s failure it had to be done for every medication. This patient alone had over 30 overrides in the past few days since she was admitted to the hospital. That is unheard of unless there is a systemwide failure. Also Vanderbilt admitted that there were no scanners in the radiology department where the patient was located. That made it impossible for the nurse to scan the armband and the medication before administration. The nurse was the last check and made several mistakes but Vanderbilt bears partial responsibility in this situation also. The prosecutors made it sound like the nurse beared all the responsibility. There’s so much more to the story that was not included in this news report or in the trial.
I blame the government for not having better regulations on patient per nurse period. I’m not excusing the error. However accidents happens. It would be different if she was high or impaired or something to that nature
This makes one fear going to the hospital.
This verdict, may have opened Pandora’s box.
Please.. please. let this girl go..The blame is not only on this nurse, but the blame also falls on the pharmaceutical company that manufactures it, which must put such a dangerous treatment in special packages..Then the blame also falls on the hospital administration and the way they distribute the drugs…and on the anesthesiologist…because Such treatments are supposed to be injected by the anesthesiologist himself, and only given by the pharmacist to the anesthesiologist
GOOD PERIOD
Nurses are also assaulting people by cutting them several times totally unnecessarily with butterfly needles and sending totally expendable Philipino nurses in to assault patients, all kinds of crazy ish happens at hospitals and goes totally unreported!
Keep them Accountable Good job
She should have known better
And THEN THE ROTTEN KILLER FEELS SORRY FOR HERSELF!!! Ya God forbid YOUR NOT WORKING AT MCDONALD’S.. MAKING BURGERS.. YOUR SUPPOSED TO SAVE LIVES.. I HATE EVIL NURSES
I often wonder how many of these nurses get the job. They’re often rich daddy’s girls 22 years old out of college, still recovering from 4 years of alcohol abuse… No offense to those who are actually honest and put together…
I bet you handful of covid patients did not die from covid , they died due to getting wrong medication!
Doesn’t surprise me. I quit working in a major hospital because of the disgusting things I saw nurses and doctors doing. It was heartbreaking.
Okay that nurse being terrified about being in a profession that gets sued…well now you know how doctors go through. at least your union protects you. Im tired of mid levels wanting the title of doctor (ahemm dnps looking at you) and autonomy without even a fraction of the training or education and then when it’s lawsuit time it’s still the hospital and doctors named in it. If you want those privileges without education or experience then you should be named in lawsuits as well.
They work those nurses to the breaking point and then say it’s their fault when they are exhausted
THERES NO ROOM FOR MISTAKES IN MEDICINE!!!!!
How did she have access to that drug !!!!
AND yet POS CopS get away with outright murder/planting evidence/perjury, & falsification of Police Reports…. & in ARIZONA, falsifying overtime hours “worked”
The day is darkest before the dawn… It’s just me against the world baby
One of these mistakes almost killed my grandmother. Gave her meds she was allergic to that she told them she was allergic to putting her into a coma.
How could you not know the difference between drugs given under your care ?
She knew right from wrong!
That’s right, because it can happen any time. This is a awful awful thing. We are over worked and under paid.
It’s your responsibility to make sure not to happen this not joke it’s life we all been there you got keep your eye wide open.there is only one life
They are the facility are always 80% liable because if you continue to ask for change u loose your Job.
BS !
Now nurses are scared that they will actually be held accountable for their mistakes. The drug had a warning label can’t believe this nurse ignored it. I am happy she is being held accountable. “Mistakes happen” is not a good excuse, especially for nurses. We bring our children to the hospital. I am glad they know not to be overconfident and arrogant and pay attention to the job at hand.
Hold every nurse accountable and lock them up.
This will cause Them to Watch what they are doing CLOSER!!!!
It wasn’t one mistake it was several. If as a nurse you don’t know what you are injecting and someone dies, that’s punishable. You take an oath for a reason. My ex father in law died from neglect and poisoning from drugs he was allergic too. Why should families have to suffer? To error is human. But to error so much you cause a death is another issue.
Dangerous
I’m so glad a medical professional was finally held accountable for her mistakes. The hospital should also be held accountable for creating the situation for her to make 17(!!) mistakes. I’ve been hospitalized quite a lot because I used to suffer from an autoimmune condition. I was in and out of hospitals many times even a few times I had to be hospitalized for 3 months due to my illness and even though it was the top 5 hospital in the country, most doctors and nurses were egoistic with no bed side manners. Most of them were extremely condescending to a point I felt my life was not worth living. Thankfully a medication worked magic after a year of suffering and I’m now medication free for almost 10 years. I would say more than 90% of them suffer from extreme narcissism. Also most surgeon has issues. They don’t look for best solutions for the patients but they just want to opt to cut and practice their surgery skills rather than treating patients with medication and you really need to watch out for them. Like if you follow 100% of what they say your survival rate goes down or suffer from an illness much longer or lose an organ etc. Honestly I had to learn about my illness and all of the medicines they may use better than doctors so I can catch their mistakes. And they do make many mistakes and you have to correct them or ask them want they’re doing to you. They think like you’re a faulty product in a factory they have to fix and not a human being. And their mistakes are due to their overconfidence and extreme narcissism that they believe they’re god-like creatures and no one can point out their mistakes. Education system for medical professionals should be changed so that people don’t die/commit suicide, lose an organ or disabled for life.
Extremely negligent.
A nurse gave my child 9 drugs that were meant for another child and because the hospital was such a large employer in the state no lawyer would take my case and my daughter spent an extra week in the hospital for observation.
my mom is an RN with 30 years experience, and she said you’d have to know EXACTLY what you’re doing when you’re reaching for vecuronium bromide. Instead of reaching for a basic sedative, she went the completely opposite way, unlocked the cabinet where this paralyzing drug was stored, and killed her patient. This woman is either a psycho or just plain stupid, sorry
Let me get this straight… DUI and texting while driving kills someone probation, honest medical error who’s practicing license gets removed is 3-5 jail time???
No SEVENTEEN inept errors, actually
Maybe 12 hour days aren’t such a good idea.
Nurses can be held accountable. You are dealing with people, stay sharp and alert and read the chart. They teach this in nursing school. Nothing has changed. A simple question to the patient is “Did anyone give you medicine today?
Hospitals are businesses, I am sure some of those mistakes are caused by the hospital best practices.
All nurses should walk.
This comment section is insane. She is a human being. We are all capable of making mistakes. It’s human error. It’s also a systemic issue. Nurses are notably overworked & understaffed. Expected to perform in a constantly changing environment. If I were a nurse & heard this story, I’d probably quit my job. Especially if it were in a critical care/emergency setting. No job is worth going to prison over.
Wow, that’s scary! I would be interested in watching this on Court TV.
