A former executive of the US bank Goldman Sachs faces up to 30 years in prison for embezzling billions of dollars.
The stolen fortune is linked to Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund, known as 1MDB.

Imagine the ungodly sums of money you’re dealing with to be fine 3 billion US dollars.

So of course they will not stop doing it, as this is just merely considered an expense, and taken off the tax sheet to reduce the minimal amount of tax they do pay, enjoying at the same time all the benefits from taking money and moving it around.

@Min Cong Huang He’s not going for 30 years, it’s the maximum sentence, not the sentence he will face. This guy will get the plea deal from the judge to be the witness for the bigger fish in exchange for a wayyyyy lighter sentence.

Amen to that. I have been complaining about the exact same thing for years. These criminals just consider the fine a cost of doing business expense and continue doing the same thing. It is not limited to bankers though. The large tech companies are equally guilty of breaking all kinds of laws and just paying fines. Of course the press in my country (the US) doesn’t do its job either. It is busy covering the “actor slaps comedian at the Oscars” story in great detail!!
