@Ernie Buchinski As a Dane I can guarantee that Finland, I am sure I can speak on behalf of the other Nordic NATO country, Norway as well, that we can vouch for the quality and strength of Finland and the Finnish people. Finland in NATO will be added value for all parties. Finland in WW2 already have done what Ukrainians are doing to Russia now, beaten them singlehanded and driven them out of their territory. As winter warriors they are second to none. I grew up under the cold war and saw how clever the Finnish government politically and militarily had to operate walking a tight robe to prevent Russian aggression, decade after decade. The security guarantees Finland now have received from UK, USA and others until NATO application are finalised and approved wont really be needed, even POOtin are not stupid enough to test. POOtin are occupied elsewhere. POOtin can thank himself! I am genuinely moved and can sleep better at night, just as I hope and know, many Finns to can, by the knowledge that Finland soon will be part of the most successful military defence alliance in the world. Maybe this is a good day to remind ourselves and the Finns that not one NATO country, in its 70 year+ old existence have ever lost one inch of land. CONGRATULATIONS FINNS and CONGRATULATIONS FINLAND!
My late father was fighting against Russians in the Winter war 1939 and the Continuation war 1941.
I calculated 14 wars between “Finland” and Novgorov/Russia/Soviet Union within last 400 years. I think we remember our history as 74% of Finns are willing to defend our country. This is the highest value in whole Europe.

As an American who’s lived in Helsinki since 1995 (vaimoni on suomalainen/my wife is Finnish) I think this is long overdue, and I welcome it. As Ukraine has stated, if they had been a member of NATO, they would not have been attacked.
Russia is powerful enough to attack one Nation at a time. Russia is weak enough to lose picking a fight with many Nations at the same time.

@DannyB1954 True, but Ukraine sadly have not been in a position where they fulfilled the most basic “must meet” demands required in NATO´s founding set of rules. Luckily we at least can make sure they get a steady stream of better and better weapons. I am sure we both are frustrated that not more are being done. I personally hope that Ukrainians keep their fighting will so high that they dont stop until entire Ukraine, including Crimea, are free again. Lets hope a Russian that are not a coward, like most of them seem to be, point his weapon towards the real enemy of Russia, POOtin!

this is not about putin,russia has been voicing concerns for the last 30 years,there can never be anything defensive about NATO when the body was formed to fight russia,nato is literally in the border with russia,can usa allow that..??what happened in 1962 cuban missile crisis when ussr wanted to place nukes in Cuba, Kennedy almost started nuclear war because he could not allow russia to be in US sphere of influence with missiles capable of reaching mainland usa in less than 20 minutes, the question is why should russia sit by and watch usa placing missiles which can strike moscow in less than 15 minutes and deny russia capability to respond..? it reaches a time where if diplomatic means cannot solve issues then bombs will, if NATO thinks russia is iraq they better think twice because threatening russia’s own security and existence is threatening theirs in return

Uh, it doesn’t happen overnight, in case you don’t know. There are procedures to go through in the Finnish Parliament, etc. Then, other countries in Europe need to accept us as a member. It’s called following the rule of law, and it takes some time to be completed.
@rob sab you are a fool if you think Finland and Sweden won’t be fighting for NATO if things go down. Sweden has some of the highest military tech available that even USA uses. These allies are great help to the United States 🇺🇸

Russia is in no mood to tolerate any further eastward expansion of nato. Depsite a war in Ukraine, if you are yet to understand that, perhaps you will soon be drafted to fight the same war that you say would not happen. @southpole Funny thing is that ever since Finland gained her independency we have declared ourselves as neutral nation as well, but that did not stop Soviet Union making false claims and invading Finland. We fought two bloody wars to defend our nation and independency and the veterans of those wars had one clear message to later generations “Never again should we fight alone.”
And what comes to war in Ukraine, Russia did not invade Ukraine because they are scared of Nato expansion, it’s because they want Ukraine’s natural resources. Russian tactic of starting wars hasn’t changed much since Winter War when they claimed that nation 25 times smaller in population shelled their city. Making false claims to justify war for the Russian citizens is the number one expertise of Russian goverment.
Finland (and rest of the Europe) is in no mood to tolerate any further westward expansion of Russia. And I will watch from a comfortable distance in my Nato armchair while your life gets decimated by war between India and China/Pakistan (pick your poison or both)
