This is where the idea of foreign aid becomes a lot of gray area. When things get terrible in places like Haiti, people will risk their lives and leave and lots of them appear on our shores, some of them will get caught and sent back and lots will slip in undetected. That costs our society in many ways. If we can provide enough aid to make Haiti nicer-enough that most people won’t see the need to take the big risk of coming to the USA this way, then that’s a double win; Haiti is better, and USA doesn’t get a flood of illegals. But in those corrupt places, aid is inefficient at best. It’s imperfect, but which is more costly?
Sadly the USA can’t hold everyone and we should demand change in other countries, like more police, and changes that enable more freedom with safety as a priority. Its so fd up no one talks about this
