US President-elect Donald Trump has confirmed he is prepared to declare a national state of emergency as part of a mass deportation of migrants. Writing on his Truth Social platform, he responded to reports that he was considering the use of military assets. Trump has pledged to deport what he calls “foreign criminals” who have entered the US illegally. He made immigration a core issue in his successful bid for the White House. This month it emerged White House senior adviser Stephen Miller promoted white nationalist literature and racist propaganda to conservative news website Breitbart in the run-up to the 2016 election.
