Authorities are now releasing video in the investigation into a military jet crash into a north Texas neighborhood last year. The footage, taken from the cockpit, shows a bird being sucked into the plane forcing the two pilots on board to eject. NBC News’ Steven Romo reports.

#TopStoryWithTomLlamas #Jet #Crash
If someone gets electrocuted, they die. Electrocute means electric execution. They were shocked, not electrocute d.
If you listen carefully you can hear the bird yell “Alah Akbar” right before impact
Imagine crashing cause of a bird
This is why flying should be restricted, I don’t believe in the experts assumption of this situation being rare
It’s amazing a soft bird body causes catastrophic failure to a large jet engine with razor sharp fan blades. How could we have not solved that by now?
Said razor sharp fan blades are also thin and are rotating at very high speeds. There are also multiple sets of these fan blades, and when a large sac of meat hits these, it splits up into smaller chunks of meat and also bones, and after a split second, some of the aforementioned fan blade chunks that broke from the initial impact, all getting sucked through the engine to damage _more_ turbines, all of that debris getting thrown around inside the combustion chamber. The meat would fry up into nothing in that heat, but not so much the metal bits that came off the broken fan blades.
Told you guys birds aren’t real , literally drones
2023 is coming up…. Still no solution for birds…yup greatest country in the world!
that mfer looked like another plane for a second
It was an un typical event
Why do they not put screens over the intakes on these jets ?
Seems like that would be such a simple preventative measure. Am I missing something ?
Probably something to do with air flow and engine design, etc
@The Final Calamity You are probably correct, but I really would like to know for certain. So I’mma gonna keep this thread open for future replies.
Thanks for saying…
@Tufdog’s Place some reasons I found online
The engines are designed to digest birds up to about twenty pounds;
A grill in the front of the air intake would reduce the effective area of intake, reducing the power output;
A grill in front of the air intake would disturb the airflow into the engine, likely degrading the engine’s efficiency;
;A grill in front of the engine might ice up in certain atmospheric conditions, blocking airflow into the engines;
A grill in front of the air intake would have to be fairly substantial, increasing the weight of the airplane, and reducing its payload capacity;
A bird heavy enough to damage the engine blades would also be heavy enough to damage a grill, possibly breaking parts off that would be ingested into the engine causing worse damage than the bird.
@The Final Calamity Thanks ! That’s some good info, but it seems redundant that ,… well you saw the video. That bird caused the plane to go down, & they don’t do precventive measures because they don’t want to add a lil weight or cut down on effeciency, yet it’s an acceptable risk to let the plane crash. Just doesn’t add up to me.
But I thank you for your input…
*_”Both pilots JUMPED out of the plane.”_* *_No honey, they ejected from their jet._*
We need rocket ships instead of fixed wing aircraft…rockets are only in the bird striking zone very briefly and if the rocket hit a bird….well…poor bird.
This was certainly a shocking news report ⚡️
Not funny
i was next to ts thats crazy
Stupid Bird
Atleast the bird was honored with its ashes spread over a vast area
Not true. When birds go in a jet engine they get instantly turned into pink mist and ejected out the back.
Rip to the 300 birds
So none of the home owners got hurt or killed?
This is why the government should get rid of their bird drones.
so like, the plane is mine now since its on my property
Did the expert watch the video? They were landing…
Mother Nature fighting back
Poor bird
Give it a rest…. Birds are always going to be up there. And when they are not in sure by that point in life we will have much worse things going on on this planet
Making a bird look like the Nope monster in the thumbnail.
Does no one notice how weird the bird is.
This is why i always teach to come in high in case of engine failure you can always glide. Need better instructors
I didn’t hear any mention on whether or not anyone in those houses were hurt or killed
Ohhh the smoke, I saw it and and I was freaking out cause lik3 um there was smoke ohhh, ugh I’m gonna cry I was so scared once I seen the smoke….Jesus christ that chick was so dramatic for the camera 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Glad nobody was killed
America: where you can live such a peacefully, sheltered life that if you witness a jet crash and both occupants and bystanders survive and are okay, but you can’t keep from sobbing due to how graphic and shocking it is.
Bird strike….
I said a bird bird bird bird is the word.
I’m glad the bird got shredded when it got caught 😂😂 100% deserved that for flying at the wrong place at the wrong time
poor bird it just wanted another flying friend 😭
put some kind of screen in front of the engine so birds don’t fly into them
…. and reduce airflow by a significant amount, and also ensure that you will need even more parts, which means more weight, which means more power draw to heat them otherwise you can’t fly too high or in cold weather because said screen will ice up, which blocks even MORE airflow.
I doubt the screen would last long. You underestimate the power of a jet engine
I’m no aircraft whisperer, but why not build a slanted grill over the intake. This way if a bird is sucked into it, it just rolls off the side of the grill.
Idea #2
Or make the grill blades sharp to where it slices the bird into smaller pieces so it can easily pass thru the engine.
“grill blades” …? Are you talking about the turbine blades in the engine? Simple. They are rotating at very high speeds and are thin, and already bladed to cut, you know, air. They are designed to cut air to push air into the combustion chamber. What do you suppose happens when a thin piece of metal rotating at tens of thousands of RPMs comes into contact with something much, much denser than air? it snaps. It breaks into pieces. Where do those pieces go? They, with all that meat (that is now liquefied) go right into the engine through the _other_ sets of turbine blades and eventually the combustion chamber, and the exit turbine, likely causing catastrophic damage to all of them. The engine simply can’t function at that point with a lot of the fan blades destroyed. That’s to say nothing about the sharp metal debris flying around in the combustion chamber, what kind of damage that might cause. fuel leaks, escaping fire, who knows. As for why not put a guard in front of it, any kind of guard? if it prevents a bird from going through, it’s going to limit airflow. The engine runs on airflow. Limiting airflow reduces the engine’s power, which goes against the very reason the engine is even there.
Poor birb.. 🙁 plane just plowed in to him..
Soooo…nobody on this planet is smart enough to figure out how to prevent this? Or maybe it just costs too much? How much do you want to bet it’s the latter?
I’m surprised nobody in the comments said, “ Well, what about the poor bird?” 😂
That check for the residents must be nice.
So we have aircraft worth hundreds of millions of dollars that can be taken down by a little bird. How stupid is that.
Do you have an idea to prevent catastrophic bird strikes?
How can a bird do this to a millions of $$ plane? ._.
Bird gets ingested into the engine
Another issue is why they do this military exercise near residential homes??? It scary that your seating in your home feeling safe and end up having a plane crash and burning your house.
Bro that’s just where they land. It’s not where they do the actual exercises
They dont have anything to prevent bird strikes?
Do you have any ideas?
Glide ratio… is very important 🤨
same thing happened here in naso oceana va beach a while back. during a training exercise.
Now that girl gonna live her whole life “traumatized” lmao
I guess my DS was telling the truth. Birds aren’t real, they’re spy drones
It wasn’t a bird, it was a Russian drone. #Birdsarentreal
Bruh what
That lady needs to get a grip. She witnessed something wild, but where is the backbone?. Truly; training exercises shouldn’t have civilians in harms way.
TALK BOUT BAD LUCK TO LAND ON THAT
kamikaze bird
You would think they would build better engine parts!
Your the expert!
@Jesse Rivas *you’re
@JayJay Aviation you corrected my spelling, that’s the best you have?
@Jesse Rivas It’s elegant in its simplicity. So when are you gonna show me that bird immune engine Boeing built?
@JayJay Aviation you’re right, I’m sorry. I’m in the ER and not happy about it. But you didn’t deserve my attitude. I saw it on YouTube that Boeing was testing a 777 with a special engine called the GE90-115B. I apologize to you sir!
That little girl looked like she shat herself
All the technology and military funding just for a Single bird it down smh
Bird on a suicide mission lol
Jet hit 6 houses and no one was injured 🤨🤨
Yeah? Well? Humans weren’t meant to fly…
Yet we made it the safest mode of transportation.
Wait till the people see fire caused by actual war. … this shock them and people survived. Don’t look at Lebanon now. Hold tight Tex
is the eyewitness girl on drugs?😆
That dam bird hit at the worst possible time. On approach when your already low and slow. Your going to the deck quick fast and in a hurry. Hey at least the government going to buy you a new home.
“I’m pro choice!” – bird probably
Can’t wait to see how delivery drone gonna deal with birds and civilians
Prayers to all. Sorry for the one who was CAUGHT on power line.
The Russians thought of how to combat this generations ago like on the MIG-29.
When a MIG-29 lands its main inlets actually close via a flap and it breaths through vents up on the top near the pilot. If you have FS2020 you can buy the mig and actually activate this system to see a demonstration of how it works. You can use it for landing or reduced thrust takeoff.
I think ever since there was some anti-FO system on their Jets. I am half Slav so I may not agree with the war but I have an ire for their stupid simple engineering. They sometimes figure out multi-billion dollar problems with a device that costs 1/32 to R&D, maintain, and produce.
Why they don’t use this system on Turbojets these days is beyond me. It won’t work obviously on a Turbofan engine but they could probably put a cage around the fan with sensors and the Pilots can open a bypass to drop the debris from the cone housing. Most modern turbofans can handle a little debris from say a bird if you can stop the whole thing going in all at once.
Just an issue I’ve seen a lot and usually you see some big safety modification after finding a flaw but they’ve been letting this go on and on and it’s way more common than any of the other issues they spend billions engineering their way around.
They fly way too low here in Denver. Can’t image getting carpet bombed by one.
What do you mean by “way too low”?
Why, is there no word on the occupants of those 6 houses. ? I can’t imagine the horror they must’ve felt. 😳😳
While I agree it is probably a good thing to include for those who don’t know about this incident I think it is forgivable, because this crash happened last year. It has been public knowledge since then that the homes around the crash weren’t damaged that bad and only one civilian had minor injuries that were treated on site. This is just an update on why the plane went down.
Biden attacking us with f15 imho
Fragile new generation
can someone explain why they can’t just “bird proof” the engine?
Can you explain how that can be done?
a grid or some sort of protective shield?
@wittho Would barely last 30 seconds
Birds are the most powerful weapon
Mankind is to blame…I’m no hippie but you can’t blame nature for doing what nature does.
Oof, I hope the structures they crashed into are okay.
Multi MILLION dollar aircraft taken down by $7 Fried Chicken.
Sooooooo who’s the blame the bird or the pilot hmmmmmmmmmmmm I believe the birds 🐦 were there first…….just saying
That girl should be an actress 😂
Losers and suckers
I wonder if it is possible to equip planes with some type of sound frequency that would make birds avoid them.
Birds Lives Matter
Rip to the bird
Sad😢
So you can take out a military jet airplane with one bird? We need to start arming our military with birds immediately.
That poor bird.
Let me guess, it was nature’s fault. We are killing the planet with all these man-made bs. The bird was is the right, and man is in the way of nature.
JET PLANE- I have anti missile system
BIRD- Hold my beer
This is why rookies shouldn’t man the surveillance pigeon on the first day.
Rip poor birdy
What happened to the bird?
A bird going through a jet engine at high rpm is instantly turned into a pink milkshake spraying out the back of the jet.
Funny for all that expensive equipment can detect enemy miles away but fail for bird nearby 🤣
It’s a trainer plane.
I noticed they didn’t mention if the residents of the area or homes were safe or not. And I know that they BETTER pay every dang penny to repair those homes to the exact quality of condition they were in before. If not better.
Why y’all interview a pill popper 💀😂😂
NBC peacock shows up on screen right on cue.
Anyone on the ground hurt?
“Andddd…I was freaking out”
After leaving a university frat party, a bird hit my car and I crashed into a parked car. I still got a D.U.I. same bird.
What a failure of a design of a plane engine, a bird takes it down 👎
The jet flew into the bird, not vice versa.
Typically birds are only near airports and planes only hit them on take offs and landings. I could see the runway on the video. 🤦♂️
Wildlife strikes problem is very serious.🤔 Are you guys saying that for the birds who are natural fliers or for the artificial planes which are not supposed to be the air which is naturally given by Nature to Birds.
Good thing..
At least the government is goin to pay for the repairs to the homes
