They’ve spent years neglecting major issues, hoping if they pretend hard enough those problems will just magically remedy themselves. @bm phil you need nuclear energy as a basic power source, you need to have guaranteed en energy at anytime, you don’t have that with wind and solar energy, and solar energy needs big batteries to store the energy in case of overproduction. Witch means that a lot of lithium needs to be mined to make those batteries which is not good. For the climate. Coal is also limited and not renewable. So hydropower and nuclear powers should be the main energy source, Norway have hydropower as main, but the eu doesn’t have as much water storages as Norway. So nuclear power is the best solution, building a new clear plant take 10-15 years so the energy crisis won’t be solved for many decades. The eu is the reason for this not Russia. The politicians use Russia as an excuse for the crisis. It’s the eu fault for relieng on Russia for energy.

Niger (20%) – mines belong to chinese state owned companies
Kazakhstan (19%) – close relation to Russia
Canada (18%)
Australia (13%)
Namibia (8%) – two of the 3 largest mines belong to chinese state owned companies
Only 0.5% uranium used in EU come from EU itself.

One thing we never hear about is why Germany’s gas reserves need replenishing?
With Nord stream 1 exporting at 100% capacity to Germany it still needs to use their gas reserves in the winter. Nord Stream 1 at 100% is still not enough for the Germans needs in Winter.The European winters are not only cold but the days are short meaning people have their lights and heaters on longer. Germany refills their reserves with Nord stream 1 gas in the summer when the demand is much lower, with Nord stream 1 only producing 20% of it’s capacity Germany will not able to replenish their reserves after using them this winter, they are going to be in big trouble.
Germany uses natural gas for it’s huge manufacturing base….. THAT is what takes gas…..not so much private citizens.

The problem with renewable energy is that the more you increase wind and solar power stations, the more fossil energy stations you need for a back up. Otherwise you are risking the whole system to collapse. That is why I think it is very stupid to bet on renewables as a main energy source, because it requires huge investments not only in wind and solar stations, but other type of stations as well.

It’s not just Germany that’s in a mess.
the EU is propped up by German economic might. That economic might was propped up by cheap Russian gas. In 2020 Japan was paying double for its energy as Germany was, and yet remained competitive. That is because it was not propping up over 20 undeveloped economies like Germany has to.
Even worse, the war has caused a credit confidence crisis. Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain survived with their huge debts by being able to roll bonds over at low rates. Those days have now ended. The PIGS are going to require phenomenal amounts of money from the EU to avoid defaulting. And Germany won’t have the money.
To use an Australian colloquialism, the EU is “cactus”. It is rapidly sinking.
Germany with either need to swallow its ethics and buy Russian energy or suffer a massive drop in GDP. Either way – it’s over.
