The network connects the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, with Bandung in West Java.
It is one of China’s most high-profile international infrastructure projects.
But there is a growing concern about costs.

@Andre Cakep They can do the same project. But what you compared only cost and time. Of course they can finish. From what I found, a huge chunk of the capital is from the US’s central government. The fact they support it, they already have the political motivation. They know the cost overrun and yet the keep making the new bill like from a decade ago. I wasn’t underestimate California’s project, I only pointing out that it’s not easy to compare both project fairly. remember, land acquisition in Indonesia is more forceful and not as strict as US’s system where they have different standard.
I have to admit I am not an expert in this field. But Alan fisher and other channel (I forget it’s name, he discuss the history about the project) given interesting point about it.
May be the best comparison is India. Where the cost overrun is more than 200% and the delivery date is yet unkown.

@setyo eko I don’t think its japan’s fault. I read somewhere that they stuck in land acquisition. Where Indonesia has the problem normally but this project got special treatment on handling bureaucracy.
This is why USA is fighting tooth and nail to marginalize China with various accusations which is like a storm in a teacup.
Infrastructure and poverty eradication can be done simultaneously. The government is a multi-sectoral body, it has the ability to focus on multiple things at once. Building a high-speed railway line does not necessarily mean neglecting poverty and unemployment. I understand some might fear that this project will be a white elephant and a debt trap, and I’m no expert so my opinion must not be taken without a grain of salt, but I do believe the market is there IF the government has the will power to create an integrated transportation system so that the train will be accessible to many, especially in Bandung where the main station is quite a distance from the city center and with no mass transport connecting the two. Also, I do believe Indonesia has a strong enough economy to repay the loan in the long term, and unlike Sri Lanka, a default would be unthinkable for an economy the size of Indonesia.

I’ve been on high speed rail in both Japan and China. Believe me when i say that you won’t regret getting it. It’s like high speed internet, Once you have it then you never want to go back to dial up.

I’m from the Philippines and because Indonesia was my favorite country, I planned to visit Jakarta and Bandung by this train which is much fast and comfortable than Philippine National Railways despite they have coaches from Indonesia(PT INKA)..But don’t lose hope for Philippine Railway system because new Communter lines such as North-South Commuter Railway and others are full swing on construction and expected to finished by the next 5 years 🇵🇭❤️🇮🇩
