The bigger story is that Alex Murdaugh and a “friend” did not pay the housekeeper’s sons what they were owed after her death.

@Ore B The son was drunk and driving a boat at night with his 5 friends aboard. He crashed the boat and one of the females was thrown from it. Her body wasn’t found until about a week later. The son and 3 of his friends were taken to a local hospital. Alex Murdaugh was able to keep his son out of jail when he was initially arrested and was only on probation (not allowed to go out state, but could still attend college) when he was murdered.

The motive doesn’t matter if they can prove he actually did it. They can speculate why, but it doesn’t really matter why.
It seems bizarre to me in so many ways….. I think murders were motivated by the fact that a divorce from Maggie and/or the boat crash legal problems and lawsuit would expose his financial wrongdoing. If this truly is one of the prosecution’s theories, it doesn’t bode well for the rest of their case against Murdaugh. There were other, equally nefarious abd more plausible motives for him to murder.

I think his motive was to keep the financials sealed up. I think his wife wanted a divorce which would’ve forced him to hand over the family’s bank records to an attorney which would’ve inevitably turned up lots of unaccounted cash. He killed them both hoping to sell it as a vigilante killing for the Mallory Beach incident.

This is what happens when the well-off live beyond their means. I see this all the time in WV, not so much murders, but well-off individuals living far beyond their means and blaming the guy down the road who gets $140 in SNAP benefits due to a bad back for their issues. They have images to maintain and do everything short of murder to keep their heads above water. Meanwhile, those making literal slave wages don’t complain at all.
