Peruvian legislators have discussed ways to quell the political storm caused by the removal of former President Pedro Castillo.
Two cabinet ministers have also resigned.
Days of violent demonstrations followed Castillo’s impeachment on December 7 after he tried to dissolve Congress.

There is a huge difference between protests and RIOTs. Terrorist groups have been attacking police stations, government buildings ,and taking over airports. in most demonstrations the police and the public walk together the people support the police, those guarding buildings have been even brought food and drinks the arm forces protecting their cities. The ex-president’s people and himself are calling for riots alongside with their people. His own people don’t want to support new elections because they don’t want to leave congress, they know they have no chance to do so, most leftist groups are against the new elections. (Yes, Peru has lots of left, right, and centric parties).

Yeah, this is an issue. While we at Peru are no strangers to protests against the government, this is the first one that turns to violence and wanton destruction with such intensity. It’s weird, almost as if they’re being encouraged by third parties. There’s also the former Prime Minister who already had threatened the country months before that there would be bloodshed if Castillo got sacked, which has led many to believe that people are dying for political interests.
Not to say the Congress shouldn’t get out, because they do. Ironically, the parties that are against early reelections in 2023 are the same peft leaning parties that supported Castillo, including his own party. They’re that afraid of losing their power.
They don’t have a voice their judicial system is broken in Peru just like their Congress completely corrupt.

Iran protests are because of an oppressive religious dictatorship. In Peru these people are protesting to put a corrupt politician that tried to establish a dictatorship back un power because he told them he worked for the people and came from a poor background. They protest to change a constitution they haven’t read, but where told this constitution keeps them poor. And they protest because they want to disband the congress (elected by the poeple too) because they impeached this corrupt president.

Are the people protesting a fair election or did the ruling party win ? ? This was a very neutral report , as it should be . Good job .
Castillo, the ex president who got ousted, was the first leftist president that Peru got. He wanted to nationalise Peru’s resources and funnel the profits for the people. The congress, wanting to line their pockets and keep their power, blocked Castillo from doing anything, since they wanted the resources profit for themselves.
Add to the fact that the new president was now working with congress to keep their power instead of calling for new elections to elect a new congress and president (delaying the presidential election to 2025 I think)
The people, especially the rural communities, which is where most of the protests are, wanted Castillo freed and perhaps reinstated as president, Congress to be closed for a new congress to be elected and a rewriting to the constitution (a clause in the constitution was left by Alberto Fujimori, the dictator from 1990 to 2000, where congress can impeach the president on the grounds of “moral incapacity,” which is utter rubbish that Congress abuses to get rid of presidents they don’t like, which happened to a few presidents before Castillo and then to Castillo himself)
The protests will most likely not result in much, since Lima, which is the richer more middle income area of the country, will align more with the capitalist congress than the more radical leftist movement. Also the police and army are in bed with congress.
