Guyana is undergoing an energy boom after huge oilfields were discovered off its Atlantic coast.
Now it is using that newfound wealth to fund solar projects benefitting isolated, mainly Indigenous communities.

Hope they manage wealth better than Venezuela.
Yes 😀
They will.
Indian origin women will keep at lest 20% income as saving first. So money can’t flood the market.
@Rakesh Ghosh huh?? Venezuela’s problems were not caused because women were not saving. Do some reading 🤣🤣 it’s a great tale of government ineptitude, populism and corruption.
Hope USA & Europe don’t sponsor War There soon for free oil….
Pay for green once, always same price. Oil & gas, up and down but mostly — UP.
Hope greed and narcissism don’t scupper their new found wealth.
Do you mean nepotism ?
Always watching from Georgetown Guyana south America 🇬🇾🇬🇾🇬🇾🇬🇾
*Guyana🇬🇾 have border disputes with Venezuela & Suriname.*
make border agreement & peace!
Respectfully, President Irfaan Ali, the planet has already heated above 1.1°Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels. All countries, including Guyana, should invest only in renewable energies, such as wind, solar and hydrogen, and not fossil fuels, like gas.
Guyana’s largest earner at present is its fossil fuels. President Dr. Ali has said that the funds earned from the sale of oil and gas will be used to invest in sustainable energy and make the transition away from fossil fuels by 2030.
However, being one of the smallest countries in South America with a population of just around 800,000, Guyana’s newfound wealth in the oil and gas sector is hardly the cause of the major-scale climate change we see today.
It is selfish to ask developing countries like Guyana, which have spent many years with their population in poverty, to abandon the needs of their people to do what first-world leaders won’t.
I smell freedom coming your way
Beautiful place, Guyana deserves to have solar energy projects going to sustain its wonder.
I think Guyana needs to be liberated by USA. They need help, freedom and liberty 👍💉
Guyana is already free. I hope these comments are sarcasm and not ignorance.
as the son of guyanese immigrants in America, it warms my heart to see this.
Things I had discussed with my cousin back in 2020 when I visited are now being implemented.
It’s very good to see them go renewable.
Like my cousin Sulaiman said, lowering the cost of energy will be the #1 way to increase quality of life.
Ok, the irony in the story is simply mind boggling. Thank you for covering the second part of the story…green energy paid for by exporting fossil fuels.
Masha Allah very good news
