Screens May Affect Your Child’s Brain Development | Better | NBC News
My son had asd after 2 years 2 months overexposure to screen
Um that’s very unrelated. I’m autistic and was almost never exposed to screens as a baby and toddler
having autism has nothing to do with screentime. if that was the case then everyone in my skl wud b autistic
because of genetics or screens
He will outgrows in future stop his screen time
@Death Gamer808 autism caused by vaccines due to high amounts of Mercury in them
Do both screens are here to stay but do old school stuff like flashcards 4eading and painting and make the participate in grocery shopping, social activities and stuff. Push em
This is lit 🔥
It’s very simple to keep young children away from screens of all kinds. Screens are physically and mentally unhealthy for young children.
@Chill pill 201 I don’t think it’s good for anybody at any age, I think that’s been well established. I’d go with the WHO and avoid most screens until a child is five. Personally I’d discourage screen use as much as possible after that, these days a healthy and well-balanced young person will be far ahead of their peers.
@Shiftless Lazycrat Well I agree, but in rare cases, it is alright. I use screens a lot and I’m 10. I do 8th and 7th grade math (I’m in grade 5) 7th and 8th grade english, and 7th to 8th grade humanities. I am much above my class. And people in my class use screens, but they have the same mindset as you. And they fall behind. Those who use extra screens are ahead.
Just to make it clear, I am against using screens for non-productive things. I use them mostly for information, and that’s why I’m ahead. So depending on how you use screens, it can be good or bad.
@Chill pill 201 I totally agree with you, and you’re definitely one of the smartest 10 year olds I’ve ever spoken to. Most adults I’ve met aren’t as bright as you are, so keep up what you’re doing. My only advice is to stay disciplined and don’t use screens when you don’t have to, excessive screen use is the most common habit these days and it’s harmful to the brain and body.
@Shiftless Lazycrat thank you, and I just use screens more due to online school.
@Shiftless Lazycrat Due to online school, just to even talk to our friends sadly we have to use screens, and there’s no way to avoid it.
Finally a vidio that doesn’t attack me
2 hours a day?
Fortnite: SIKE!!
I know, what a shame. Ignore it at our own peril, nobody else will care.
Fortnite is cringe.
@haseena badshah yee
False
@Metal Rockstarizer You’re like the internet incarnate. You’re trying to judge people based on their hobbies, if they’re mature, they can moderate their time themselves. Plus, why are you so dead-set that video games are bad for your health when you stated you grew up without technology? How would you know without trying it out yourself?
@ColBob video games don’t judge you, video games don’t tell your missing out video games don’t tell you you gossip. Social media is bad period. It needs regulation. Everyone knows social media is worse than video games correct? Because it is indeed.
@Metal Rockstarizer It’s not the social media that’s the problem. It’s the people that use it. Does regulating screen time reduce the toxicity on social media? No. There are still people spouting toxic nonsense on the internet. That still exposes children to these toxic environments.
@Metal Rockstarizer Look man, I’m not gonna try and waste your time, all I’m saying is everyone has a bias when it comes to something, but you should at least try and understand another’s perspective. You might understand a little more and come up with a conclusion of your own.
@ColBob I don’t have time to argue cause it’s the internet and idc. All I know is that it has been proven that social media is terrible, it does affect your brain. Your probably one of those idiots that believe in how to make money online videos and believe in the idea that if a person were to sell a “how to make money online” course to someone, and it doesn’t work, you put the blame on them for not working hard nah that’s bull crap a lot of people fall for it and it’s marketed and put together in such a way that doesn’t look unethical. Put the same thing with social media and yep there you have it.
I’ve been looking at a screen for 6 years and I still developed normally
@Shqipe tv tbh I’m 14, most times I go for 6-8 hours straight. Right now, I’ve been going for 8.5 hours and I’m still going
Star Butterfly I think it’s only harmful if you get a lot of screen time during the “critical period” of 0-3 years old
if it’s appropriate content then the brain won’t be affected possibly
@Golam Kabir whats appropiate for a child?
@White Diamond You are not the best judgement for your own character, that’s a fact. You’re usually wrong.
6 hours? Nobody?
Ok👌
Me
im 10 hours
nvm 11 hours
Im 17 hours
the whole day pretty much
I think screen time helps develop brains even further and faster
and anxiety levels get higher.
Don’t bother playing educational video games or Netflix, it is bad. Stop preschools from teaching kids ICT, it is bad. Do not teach kids basic programming. Throw all the TV, iPads and screens away. YES! Let’s get back to nature.
karen spotted
the fact that ur using a screen to type throw all screens away is actually insanely funny
Death Gamer808 it’s a joke can’t you see it. I cannot live without gadgets.
@Robert Fiennes ahh soz
why is programming bad?
As soon as she said that mice were being Risk Takers I envisioned a mouse drunk driving
the only benefit of screen time is it makes us numb to a world driven on screens, instant gratification and low empathy? Why would we want to raise another generation that perpetuates this insanity?
Viewtiful Joe ok boomer
Thank you for this Information it’s really important that parents even children must be educated regarding this harmful effects of exposing very long screen time to avoid probLem in the future
@Unrinxs ok mr know it all gen alpha.
@Metal Rockstarizer I’m Gen Y, and this has been a problem since before I was born. I was born with a Nintendo controller in my hand and a television on in every room. Even the generation before me was born with constant television in their lives. Television was the coffin, and the internet was the nail in the coffin. We are becoming more and more enslaved to the corporate profit machine, there’s no way to stop it. We’re not just consumers, we’re the product itself.
@Shiftless Lazycrat I don’t think you guys had it worse than we did. I’m pretty sure back in the 90s there wasn’t the fear of missing out, people acting fake on social media, influencer status, tik tok, fake people, fake friends etc. I don’t think the video games and television back then are as toxic as the social media influencer age that we live in. I personally think social media is far worse than video games and television.
@Metal Rockstarizer I definitely agree with you there, things are worse than ever before, but it’s just that it’s been heading that direction for generations now. We can’t imagine how much of our social lives we lost when television became standard in every house, and I myself lived through the first generation that wanted to play videogames instead of playing outside. Now we have social media, which I agree is worse and more consuming, but I’m alarmed that this has been the general direction for the last many generations. Imagine how much worse the future will be for our children.
@Metal Rockstarizer Yeah the internet turned into a rabbit hole.
I know this video is old but I’m desperate for advice. My younger sister usually spends about 5-8 hours on screen time. I tried multiple times telling my parents to persuade her into more healthy activities. Keep in mind, SHES FOUR YEARS OLD, this is unexceptable behavior. My parents being unreasonable and unresponsible keep arguing that it’s absolutely fine even though I already showed them multiple evidence. They even resulted to guilt trip and blame me for being a hypocrite. I honestly don’t know what to do, and my sister doesn’t listen to me, please help.
I used to spend a lot of time on YouTube as a child too. I was homeschooled and it felt like there wasn’t much else to do, though now i realize that I was wrong about that. There were other things I could have done, I just didnt know about them at the time. I would wake up, get on the computer, and watch youtube until it was time for bed. I regret spending so much time on youtube. I think about all the memories I could have made, the places I could have gone, the things I could have done, the times when I could have connected with my siblings, but didnt. I wish my parents had done something about it because now I’m having to deal with multiple mental health issues. It wasn’t watching the videos themselves that caused these issues, but it was all the things that I *didnt* do that made me unhappy in the end.
You’re a great older sibling
SAME LIKE MY PARENTS DON”T LISTEN-
I can relate. My parents use screen time as reward time. The type of spam version videos of Coco melon is horrible for young children. I see how it’s been affecting my toddler. He’s become more hyperactive everytime “hickory dickory dock” comes on and continues to watch the same thing over and over because he knows how to swipe and repeat videos. He’s not even 2!
Your parents are like how my mother was with my grandmother. My grandmother would emotionally be on her tablet all day long and it was very, very bad for her. I think her not being able to sleep while doing that made her dementia come about 10 years early.
For me it was obvious: just take the stupid thing away from her, listen to her shouting and pouting, and that’s all. She did not control her self, she did not know what she was doing, she was making our lives not easy, and destroying her own health. Any sensible person would say that it’s reasonable to take the thing away in that kind of situation.
My mom instead blamed me when I tried to take it away.
Finally it broke, and that was a very good thing.
I don’t know what was up with my mom; some people just can’t be reasoned with sometimes. Try- I know it sucks and you shouldn’t have to- but try to focus on yourself. You can’t control your parents.
Who is watching this as homework
Me. 🤧
I am
Me 😭🤧
Yes very important
Ahh I don’t give a crap if my child is “addicted” to tech I mean he can make a living off of that.
@Cannabisong If you use a pc you’re probably a millennial, like me. The good thing about pc’s is they don’t fit in your pocket so you still have real life.
@Shiftless Lazycrat you are probably one of those people who will have a kid who is diagnosed with autisim and blame his phone
@Blue Cyclone that’d be funny, if it wasn’t for your generation literally blaming autism on everything from 5G towers to vaccines. You picked a really bad example, but don’t feel bad, remember everyone thinks you’re special and smart.
@Shiftless Lazycrat Hate to break it to ya, but Puffin Boi is gen z…
@Shiftless Lazycrat PC > phone
That’s probably why parents are so inbred
Stonks
Really good video the way he describe how screen time is impact the development of child brain is nice. Here is the article How Excessive Screen Time Lowers Health https://www.girlandpower.com/science-explains-how-excessive-screen-time-lowers-health/
let’s checkout
This is true I watched way to much screen now my brain hurts I don’t see that well and more I did not pay attention to this crap untill it happen to me I recommend not to watch much and help your mom dad and time pass just watch less than 2 hours
no
lol
The fact that you wrote this long of a comment shows that your mommy and daddy shouldn’t have given you a phone at the age of 8. Okay late Gen zoomer or early Gen alpha lmao.
finally someone says there are benifits to screens
But what about those video games simulating bloodshed, have the scientists ever made research on the effect of them on humans? I find it no difference with watching pornography: the more you watch them, the more you emulate them.
i hope your joking and theres been numerous studies proving video games and violence have no connection like matpat has done countless hours of research into the topic i suggest you should watch it
ok boomer
Ahh idk man, i am 10 hours everyday at screens and still get max grades in school. Lmao
i have As and Bs so
@Death Gamer808 ikr
@SomeBee boooomerrr
But at the same time they’re both dumbing you down🤣 school do you mean indoctrination camp 👍
@L patterson Yes.
Its sad that this video has so few views from a channel of 3.8 mill subscribers. Of course its bad for young developing kids to be on a screen half the day, and we’re going to see these problems soon when they grow up. Btw for girls 10-12 suicides are up 151% since Iphone release and steadily increasing
@Blue Cyclone wtf are you talking about?
the amount of karens, boomers and millenials in this chat actually drives me crazy
Yeah bommer
LOL, you left a reply on my comment saying basically the same thing. I have nothing but contempt and pity for you fat-assed, socially awkward screen zombies, but go ahead and keep pretending to be superior to millennials if it makes you feel good. Loser.
@Makthebeast 09 Nobody isn’t calm about it, don’t get so worked up fella. He chose to insult millennials by calling us karens and boomers, so he got the same thing back, welcome to the internet.
Then why are we still using zoom 8 hours a day straight?
@Karen Linda Kostin thats why your name is karen
@Karen Linda Kostin karen
@Karen Linda Kostin bruh how’s that a personal choice, school forces you to be on zoom in some states , because there’s no other way
@Karen Linda Kostin thats not even about the comment dude..
As a 12 year old yeah lol
So true
I can testify
My child watches maybe 8 hours a day
@Dex yes I did and the change was amazing. I felt like I have my daughter back.
Hi guys! Are there any people who fobid gadgets for children? My son is 2 years old and I don’t know when should I involve him into digital world((
@Cuddly Kirby yes, sure. We’ve done it, but he requests cartoons because he sees another children watching
@SCP 0460 ohhh, I can’t believe that we will have such a huge patience 😭You have started at 7 y.o?
@Aijamal Galaeva Get him use to Lego toy .
You can introduce it slowly, just use it to relieve stress for yourself. It can be stressful, so show him a video for 30 minutes, then say no more. As he grows older give him more. I am now 13 and I spend a healthy amount on and off screen. Starting screens at 7 to 10 could cause him to fall behind. I hope this is helpful.
I’d say involved him into the digital world at 13 years old but the child should only use the device one hour a day when the child became 13.
i am not addicted but its quartine so i can’t go shopping cute things or something
Going fight against your quarantine that gives you something to do
You made me watch a screen is this bad for my health😂😂
Once children start watching on screen they get addicted they don’t want to play outdoor so it’s better to don’t give them phone till the time their brain develop.
pfft tell school that we litterly have to use them for work witch is 8hrs
There’s a big difference between using a screen for work (or study) and using a screen for entertainment (video games, TikTok videos, etc). The former is generally slower-paced and requires a lot of active thinking, problem-solving, communication skills and delayed gratification, while the latter tends to be fast-paced and oriented towards instant-gratification.
I think I’ll be fine, school is going to start in less than a month and my parents usually come up with a genius way to limit my screen-time during the week.
Go play with toys tf are you doing on the phone?
Children possess a low amount of macular pigment which acts as the natural blue light filter in our eyes. This macular pigment only becomes sufficient after the child grows to about 9 years old. In addition to this, a child’s eyes have larger pupils than an adult, hence more light enters the eye and reaches the retina.

How can the scales of human feeling not be disturbed after the mind receives everything that suffers under the indirect metaphysical images?
When a healthy person turns, for example,
In a familiar way, it does not occur to caution the mind arises with the intent of warning of the existence of a sudden thing because it does not exist.
The sudden alert sense of the mind can be changed through the events of bending the road itself and decorated with roses it and with flowers، so that the mind goes in the direction of positive, but the road leads in the end to a lonely, distant and cut place
This is the game of events that appear in the world of social media and everything that comes to the screens of mobile and smart technology fixed
It is necessary to monitor children with the intention of blinding the bloody scenes, even if they are not human, because seeing the scenes of human and animal violence is able to change the course of minds in the long run.
The best friend and collaborator is the book and the educated companion.
ALI SUROOR
HI GUYS. LET ME SHOW YOU THE AUDIO BOOK WHICH TITLE IS “CHILDREN IN INTERNET”. THIS BOOK IS ABOUT THE DANGERS IN INTERNET FOR CHILDREN 1: https://youtu.be/esY4h4JhG0k
Screen time can result in a condition called virtual autism, especially for children 1-4 years old. I’m warning everyone to please limit your kids screen time.
Hi dear can kids recover from virtual autism plz let me know
@Rajwinder Hothi from what I have heard yes. But my child is very slow in progressing. He has is 4 in December but he’s cognitive function is still at 2 years. Hes so delayed so I don’t know… I don’t think he’s an actual autist because he doesn’t have tantrums or repetitive behaviours and he can look people in the eyes but he’s unable to connect to people or other kids.
Well, can anyone suggest what is the best alternative?
You can moderate it and keep the balance between entertainment and study
exactly, when my child turns 4 they will be homeschooled, they will not be allowed to stay the night at a friend’s house because I won’t be able to monitor if their friend’s parents are allowing my child to use the technology of any kind. Wich my child will not be allowed to until they turn 18 and want to move out, they can, however, have friends stay the night as long as the child’s parents are okay with no cellphones or iPad or any other technology being brought over for the time they are staying, they can call their parents from the house phone to check in every few hours. But they will mostly be doing stuff children should be doing like playing in the yard, doing art stuff like coloring, drawing and painting…sometimes movie nights. I remember how my mother had rules for me, And when I would go stay the night with friends their parents would allow me to break those rules and do all sorts of stuff I wasn’t allowed to do at home, And I don’t need that happening to my child.
Bruh your actually so strict
How do we get back to the enlightening moral value?
What are the cultural alternatives available in light of this bad technological shift towards corrupting the new awareness?
How can respectable families form an impenetrable fortress that protects their children from falling into the slippery slope of modernity grafted with the abhorrent and intentions of absurdity?
The answers are as follows:
Back to the teachings of the holy books
Going to cultural arenas such as offices, the sea and green nature in order to unleash the vision of the mind so that it contemplates the kingdom of the greater universe
Changing the essence of personal style in terms of clothing and words
So that the clothes become an expression of modesty and not excitement and refinement of words because children imitate their parents
This is reflected in the future escape of children to private life, as negative awareness calls it
And if a person remains complaining about the difficulty of moral breathing
Because, on the other hand, he does not want to open the window of reason and respect in order to breathe the air of the tolerant teachings
The person is in control of everything
But he doesn’t want the best
ALI SUROOR
The inference after the word “so” is a false syllogism.
This is pretty disgusting, really. It is WELL proven that children under two should really have absolutely NO screen time; it should be avoided as much as possible. Even toddlers and young children really shouldn’t be exposed to it; it really is like a toxin to their brain. This is well documented information, and it is incredibly concerning to me that parents are not made aware of it prior to giving birth. The fact that this network is trying to suggest to ANY degree that it’s ok for babies and extremely young children to be exposed to screens is more than just appalling; it is downright alarming. Anyone else notice that the baby milestones that have been in place for God only knows how long had to be moved back by a year or more because for some reason, babies are beginning to develop cognitive abilities at MUCH slower rates than ever before? Think maybe it’s got something to do with the countless parents out there thinking they’re doing a good thing by giving themselves a break and plopping a tablet in front of their child for God only knows how long EVERY DAY since it was born? Do ya think that MAYBE a whole lotta parents out there have absolutely NO idea just how negatively they impact their child when they put a screen in front of them specifically because the dangers of screen time are RARELY discussed, and are even sometimes promoted, like this garbage, here? You might think I’m overreacting, but our babies are under developing; in large part due to parents employing screens as babysitters. Imagine the negative impact society will experience once nearly every member of it was one of those underdeveloped babies; we’re already seeing extreme societal degradation brought on in part by screens, internet, “social” media, etc… it’s not exactly just gonna get better. What an absolute shame some people see crap like this and are led to believe something is perfectly ok and even beneficial, when it is in proven fact very much the opposite.
I remember when I was growing up my single, Polish, loving, but crazy mother had trouble with controlling how much screen time I got.
I think the key is not just “moderation.” What a screen offers is any narrative, any kind of fun, etc. at just a tap away.
I think there has to be another option the child is also happy about. Maybe parent input and help in doing long term projects for example.
Consuming hours and hours of entertainment on screens each day is a big problem, and I believe this is reducing many kids’ attention spans and their ability to focus on slower-paced things (like teachers writing on chalkboards). Think ADHD. Parents should put screen time limits in place and provide non-screen alternatives for the kids (legos! paper books! arts & crafts!), not to mention encourage them to spend a lot of time outside each day if possible. Cheers…
How to lengthen attention span?
@Pacific Oceanian To improve attention spans, I would suggest to spending less time watching fast-paced movies / shows / video games. Instead, watch slower-paced shows, play slower-paced games, and even better, do off-screen activities like doing something with your hands, or reading a book, or going outside in nature, or spending time with other people face-to-face. Meditating is also useful for lengthening attention-span, as is doing regular physical exercise. Take care…
@Pi Da Is chess a slow-paced game? I have been playing chess more and more lately to the point that there are times I don’t use my device because of chess.
@Pacific Oceanian I believe chess is a great game. It requires sustained focus on a small number of things (though with a great number of strategic possibilities). It’s not like video games with constant visual changes (visual FX, changing scenery, explosions, etc), the music is blasting, you are constantly finding items or power-ups, etc. A+ for chess.
