If they knew, how was it a “mistake”? They meaning the cops and this wicked system. Compensate that innocent man. And why are there so many cases like this, All of a dam sudden. That police officer that lied needs to be put in jail for lying under oathe. He needs a law suit and to be compensated for his time and pain and suffering.

And glad that young man is out now and that he forgave them. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t pay for what they did. The prosecutors and detectives lied knowing that they were going to ruin someone’s life. That’s premeditated. Only God’s grace kept him from being killed in prison. I pray he has a blessed life and he get paid.

The gift of life is an incredible thing, and they took his from him. So the closest thing to repair and replace is an incredible amount of money. Also time to do away with qualified immunity for any officer of the court or police officer. The people who did this should serve time. You want to play with other people’s lives? I am 3 years older than this man, and the amount I have accomplished in the time he was in jail, he could never regain with the time left. There is something about getting life achievements in the days of youth. Development of character etc etc. So sorry the system got it wrong. 😔 Since human errors can have life time consequences 😔
I’m trying to be positive here but he will live the rest of his life with an huge appreciation for the little things like trees, nature, and peace. Maybe he won’t stress over the petty nonsense that we do. It has be reflecting on myself a little. I hope he becomes an inspiration and advocate for others in the same situation.

He should get the average annual income in the state, per year at year served, and there must be immediate imprisonment of the prosecutors for misconduct resulting in a felony conviction. A year for every year unjustly served.
A skinny little boy being thrown into prison with real criminals during an integral part of his life. And yet he stands there in court with such a sweet and calm demeanor. Bless him and his family. Hopefully there’s a payday for him that gives him time to breathe, rest and spend time with loved ones before he has to worry about working.
Humans are flawed creatures. Capable of many things.. our system is run by flawed humans. And on top of that, there are people in the justice system making intentionally flawed decisions. Some people have a Superior complex (mental or personality trait), the reason why they take a career in the Justice system. shine a light take the light mindset. Bow down to them.
This is really sad. All the things he didn’t get to experience like a normal teenager. I hope he sues the fawk out of them all.
Why isn’t that detective doing time?
I guess compensation is in order for the utter incompetence and lazy public servants. A couple of million should sort him out and perhaps track down the criminal police and apply penalties like no retirement funding
So sad that more than half his life has been taken from him. I wish the justice system allowed for those who wronged him to serve the same time in jail…or at the very least, the entirety of their pensions should go to Thomas.

Well, some good news is, he is entitled to a certain amount, per day he was incarcerated. I think it’s 150.00 per day in most states.

Our appeals process takes decades. He would’ve been fine, probably out sooner.
@Chris Porter this was not an appeal. That was done n dusted. He was freed only because the state of NY has a special office that reviews convictions, in another state his case probably would have never been reviewed and he would have got the chair.

This is the problem right there ” I forgive everyone” people should start seeking justice on everyone involved in the lying scheme then and only then will this nonsense be stopped.
This is one reason why black men aren’t present in their kids lives and why so many can’t make a better way for themselves. So many are wrongfully accused and taken from their families and when they get out not only do some of them have almost no one to lean on but also they have criminal records that follow them for the rest of their lives. So often, good men are basically “thrown away” by the system without any actual proof. It obviously happens to others but black men are disproportionately affected by this crooked-system. This is sad. It makes me wonder how many lives have been taken by the death penalty without any proof, as well. I hope he can move forward with peace and when his time comes he’ll be happy with where his life has gone and the accomplishments and goals he’s made throughout life. I pray God guides him and continues to bless him.
This is a failure in the system. I couldn’t accept no apology. This isn’t just 1 day in jail, so it isn’t that simple. I’d be coming out with a lawsuit against the system.
