Four Years Later: New Memorial To 19 Firefighters Killed In Yarnell Fire | NBC Nightly News
Respect for soldiers, police officers, medical workers, but for me the greatest heroes are firefighters! I do not know the details of this tragedy, but for every great tragedy of this kind I think that they are responsible, superiors, those who give the orders! As a general in the war responsible for your soldiers, once they had no choice and died bravely in battle but once is fault generals, colonels, senior officers because they sent them poorly planned… send soldiers in an ambush, certain death as firefighters..
dilberton99 I want to tell you that I myself am a wildland firefighter and I was blessed my first year to be able to dig handline with these men and they truly are hero’s!
dilberton99 true💖
I saw initial reports that said Marsh was reckless to head out of the black, but as we come to learn more about the nature of the beast that is a genuine firestorm, we realize that he only acted out of drive to serve and protect and confidence in his understanding of what he thought he was facing.
RIP I saw in the Movie only the brave. I respect all of them and made me cried. I ‘m very deeply sad for know that.
Can’t believe there were 4 thumbs bown …what is the matter with us.
now theres 8 stupid people with no brain
12 and counting!? Wtf is wrong with these pple
For some, the “thumbs down” could be THEIR expression of sadness.
I tell you, most of the time such thumbs down are unintended. The two icons, thumb up and thumb down, are very close together, so it’s not umco that one hits the down without even noticing it. Only the down count increases to a hundreds or so one can safely assume the downs are intentional. YouTube should space the two icons farth apart from each other. And, yes, still there are those that for some unknown reason feel that way…
When everyone else runs from fire fire fighters run towards it going against every natural instinct. Their world balances on fractions of seconds to make snap decisions or they die. These men were part of the bravest for fighting wildfires without the heavy duty gear urban fire fighters have. My heart breaks for their loss and and for their friends and family. I hope the tragic evemt is never forgotton in the wildfire community as it can saves someone elses life.
601salsa 👍👌👏👏👏
I saw the movie and the truth that that man are heroes
I watched this film last night , I have to say I was moved to tears, I was up thinking of all the heros and their families bless those poor souls xx
Joan Gosney I watched yesterday and it’s very sad. I went to the National Boy Scout Jamboree in 2013 in West Virginia. I never herd about this tell a few months ago. Now watching the movie hits really hard.
I’ve lived in Prescott, where the Granite Mountain Hotshots were headquartered, we’re they were from. . I own the DVD. Even not knowing any of the men, I’ve never been able to bring myself to watch it.
Actually, several members were found outside their shelters, clear evidence some did try and run. Who can blame them? At some point survival kicks in and you act to try and save your life…,or at least die trying. Personally, the thought of being par boiled in aluminum wrap is enough to make me try and run out.
@Alexia Read the autopsy findings. They weren’t incinerated, because the bodies were not exposed to the fire long enough for that to happen. Most had 2nd and 3rd degree burns, with a couple having areas of 4th degree (which means everything burned away to expose the bone). Not many people realize there are actually 6 degrees of burns, because most burns beyond 3rd degree are not survivable.
@Annie497 well hey, I can speculate just as you can, princess. You don’t like it? GFY
@Pat Mason & Bayou Boogie I don’t speculate……I form solid theories based on facts, evidence, and common sense. Something you know nothing about. They were not cowards, like you. If you bothered learning facts instead of speculating, you would know the following: 1) standard shelter deployment steps, down to what direction they face, where they place their hands, feet, face, in specific formation. 2) how these 19 men were found. 3) what those differences in standard vs. actual told about their final moments. 4) what deployment of a shelter means. 5) why it is 100% certain that all 19 WERE deployed. 6) all were present next to one another to actively deploy those bags. 7) how the UNdeployed shelters would have presented in a different form. 8) that all 19 were transported from the scene with remnants of some shelter material recovered with each body. If you possessed a brain, you’d deduce that each firefighter never separated from their shelters. The shelters were removed from their 50 lb rucksacks of gear, and unfurled. A person fleeing that scene would be unable to deploy a shelter. YATAS!
@Annie497 well bully for you. Feel better?
@Pat Mason & Bayou Boogie Feel better? That implies I was feeling less than better. I’ve been good, thanks. These guys lost their voice on that day. I (and many others) have not. If you make a wild claim, like there was clear evidence they tried to run…..be prepared to enlighten others as to what that evidence is. There was none. I don’t expect you to simply say “yeah, I was an ignorant jacka$$….thanks for cluing me in!” But I will challenge such idiotic inaccuracies. And I’m ready for any more BS you spew forth.
Only The Brave
I will definitely go there to visit and remember.
After watching the film Only The Brave, it was so heart breaking this heroes should never be forgotten! RIP
Being a wildland firefighter myself my heart will always be will them as my fellow brothers that never stray away from the battle. Sacrificing so much for our families and community. They will never be forgotten.

Дело храбрых. Шикарный фильм. До слёз…
i saw the movie…im a grown man and i cried
Im here after watching the movie ONLY THE BRAVE 😥😥😥 i didn’t believe that tragedy was real. salute to HEROES R.I.P
Wanted to come back to pay my respects. This is as tough as it gets. Very impressive film, thoughtfully done. Very rare to see a story on film with this kind of ending. And hopefully this story in life does not get repeated.
As a German Biologist I am devastated by that UNNECESSARY! Sacrifice – to accomplish what? Nothing! We ignore totally our Human frailty. Decision Fatigue. After weeks of inhaling toxic fumes, Carbon Monoxide in high doses! Physical exhaustion. PLUS! Hero! We cannot fail! We are simply the best. The mix for Hybris and self extinction. We waste our best men – for NOTHING! Expendables…Nature Always wins.
Foolish fool
The human spirit does not allow for us to back down when others are in danger and there is a chance we can help. This is why so many die in what seems from the outside to be senseless acts of valor. The truth of the matter is that nature is unpredictable. The best trained professionals can be caught unawares at the worst moment. Does this mean we should forego taking risks? I say no! How many life-saving inventions have come about because of tragedy? Steps taken because we see and recognize the value of the lives lost and declare in our hearts “Never again!” We will lose the battle time and again, but as long as we hold to the humanity that spurs such sacrifice and use it to fuel newer and more efficient techniques to try and prevent future disaster, we will not lose the war.
Rip
It’s a very sad feeling you get when your up in that mountain and to know that 19 courageous men lost their lifes in that fire, my respect and blessings to all the wonderful men and women who helped build the trail and memorial site I know it wasn’t easy to accomplish everything that is there now because i was one of them in 2016 with ACI-1 and ACI-2. may God bless their families. Rest in peace 19
I was just at that place and I made it all 7 miles
have just watched this movies cant stop shedding tears soo sad young men with great dreams dying too soon
Stop calling them hotshots…. we all know its part of brainwashing young men into thinking theyr badass. I mean *HOTSHOT really?? CAL FIRE USES MOSTLY PRISONERS .. IMO ONLY PRISONERS DESERVE BACK KILLING LIFE RISKING JOBS LIKE THIS….*
What..? Are you in some drug?!
I think I know what you mean. We expect firefighters to be heroic, we expect them to be tough, we expect them to risk their lives. We program them for this. And because of that young men are risking their lives even more. But they don’t have to do that. Their lives are priceless. They already deserve respect, they don’t have to risk their lives or give their lives to be respected.
They “shoot” into the “hot” spots, often by parachute. Educate yourself.
why didn’t the air tanker make the drop?
I was there that day I was scared that fire went around my house some how
Always remembered and cherished! Blessings from Tx

Something of this human magnitude is lost on a person like Lester Holt and arrogant politicians.
