Bragg should have brought the previous case. It was a slam dunk. This one is much flimsier. More likely to campaign finance laws overturned in court than put trump in prison.
If they are successful in prosecuting this case against Trump it would never end up in jail time – it will be fines – and probation – don’t kid yourself – he would never go to jail on this one.

it is – sort of – a lot of the facts have been well established – Michael Cohen paid her – Trump re-imbursed. those are not even really defendable – there is an established documented trail of evidence to that and has already been prosecuted. The connection to either Michael Cohen criminal case or business records – and making it a felony is going to be paddling against the current – not impossible – but not a slam dunk by any means. The bigger much more serious case – of RICO – charging Trump correctly as an ongoing criminal enterprise – would seem like the way to go. I think that law was written with Trump in mind, have to ask Bob Blackey. Pomerantz has tried and won those cases before for the SDNY and why he was hired. Clearly there was a very personal disconnect between Pomerantz and Alvin Bragg. it is just my opinion, but I think Bragg has been pursuing this because he knew that book was coming out and it was going to make him look bad. So he jumped ahead of it and suddenly this case was actively being pursued. The reality is if they wanted to charge that case they could have done it – Jan 21, 2021 – It was all there then

The Stormy Daniels hush money charge us incredibly weak. He paid to settle with his own money. Reported it as a payment for legal services because the money was paid to Cohen who structured the settlement. Even the Federal Election Commission didn’t brought charges against John Edwards who actually had a third party pay his hush money. Here, Trump paid it from his own personal account. So all they can focus on, is that he wrote it as “legal service” rather than “legal settlement”. It was a service rendered by Cohen. And writing it down as settlement doesn’t even have any legal consequences, so it’s a null. And on top of all of that, they are trying to say it’s connected to election. But people settle to hide embarrassing stuff from their families. It’s not a crime

Cohen was hooked on bigger charges and had to plead guilty on anything they put on the charging papers in order to get a plea agreement.
Just imagine if Trump had directed his energy and influence into doing some good for the nation instead of just enriching himself.
