Llano County, Texas, is threatening to shut down its entire public library system rather than bring back banned books after a judge ordered them to do so. NBC’s Aaron Gilchrist has more on the culture war of these books ahead of a special meeting that will decide whether to close down the county’s libraries.

We should be more concerned about getting kids to read
Obviously, a local library cannot buy every book that is published. The library staff has to decide, not the courts.

I don’t agree with closing down the library but this video seems very one sided. Everyone watching this video could also look up a video about a christian author who wanted to read his books in libraries but was sometimes told no at the same libraries where they had people in drag reading books. They said there wasn’t enough interest in his books, and when eventually they did let him read under warning of legality there were tons of people!
Did he want to simply read in the library or did he want to host some sort of event? Nobody has the right to host events without the permission of the library.

As a librarian, every time I hear about one of us being attacked, I feel attacked myself.
If you want to ban a book, you should read it first, write a report on it, then write a persuasive essay why you think it should be banned, have both read by, graded by an English teacher and a librarian, and then have a discussion about the book and why you want it to be banned with the teacher, and the librarian. This is overreach, a violation of the First Amendment, and is taking my freedom to read what I want. If you don’t want to read something, fine then don’t read it, but don’t tell me or others that we can’t. Throughout history, the people who banned books, threatened librarians, and teachers were never the good guys. Banning books, rewriting them to fit a particular narrative, and banning subjects are all threats to our country, society, and to democracy itself.
I wouldn’t pay any more taxes to these fascists.
