Ethnic clashes continue in India’s Manipur despite army presence

New violence has erupted in Manipur state despite the deployment of thousands of security forces to quell the fighting in India’s northeast region.
Authorities had imposed an internet blackout and issued shoot-at-sight orders in ‘extreme cases’ in an effort to contain the violence.
The fighting started after a court ruling recommended special economic status for the majority Meitei community — a decision opposed by minority tribal groups.

Al Jazeera’s Barbara Angopa reports.
