Brian is right about the UK government wanting to be a big player in crypto, but they need to bring the people who make the rule book here, to their viewpoint – the financial ombudsman and the FCA who are in their own way acting more like the SEC and pushing crypto offshore to protect traditional finance. Many UK banks prevent us from buying crypto directly unless it’s with Coinbase.

Bitcoin exchanges are the same as sending your money to another persons bank account and that other person many times is Sam Bankman-Fried type of person. It’s a security, even mortgages are security that is why they have mortgage backed securities cause a contract is a security by definition. The fact is in definition and these bitcoin exchanges are trying to reinvent the wheel causing bank failures as consequence to the public as we have to foot the bill to bail out reserves hurt by this securities law violations.

I hate Coinbase. I’ve been using Coinbase for several weeks now and I must say it sucks. I’ve sent my money to Coinbase bank account and had to wait over a week until they added funds to my Coinbase account so that I could buy my first crypto. It takes equally long to sell crypto and cash out. So there you have your fast trading: 2 weeks to make a simple transaction. Coinbase customer service is terrible – they hire some Indian or Bangladesh guys who barely speak English and know nothing about the platform they work on. Centralized exchanges like Coinbase are the contradiction of the very idea of crypto – which is decentralization. Those exchange platforms are almost like banks – they hold your money, control your assets and rip you off on every occasion. My best advice for new crypto users – avoid centralized exchanges and keep your money on your private self-custody wallets.
