NBC News obtained a 911 call made just one day before an apartment building in Davenport, Iowa, collapsed, warning of a wall that was “vaulting out.” Officials say the search for survivors has ended as three men remain unaccounted for. NBC News’ Shaquille Brewster shares the latest.

They were left for dead the first time.
i love that game, its the one with zombies.
@Simulation K lol finally someone got the reference. Thanks and yeah, wish I could buy the digital copy and play it online but the world is in an odd time
No one came. Wow
Sec 8 housing is a death trap
Not all Section 8 housing is an old hotel built in 1907. I live in a modern 3 story building that is in no way or shape a death trap. Many section 8 live in homes with a voucher. Section 8 is for private owned rentals subsidized by HUD vs Housing Authority rentals. We have people living in my apartment complex paying market rent.
@OG Judy 🎨 sec 8 housing are old buildings
Making money is action. keeping money is behavior. Growing money is knowledge. I’m excited I started earning upto 15thousand dollars extra income.
Wow I didn’t know that I would be seeing other investors and beneficiaries of Mrs Evelyn Mason , I’m a huge beneficiaries of Mrs Evelyn services. I have been trading with her for four years now.
This woman has really change the life of many people from different countries and I’m a testimony of her trading platform.
Hey guys thanks a lot, you just saved me from crypto loss by recommending such a successful and a legit broker in the United States. This is the kind of information that we don’t get from most Youtubers I will get in touch with her right now
SCAM!
@Jace Norman Reported.
Did I miss why the 911 team did not respond to the call?
@Corey Trevorson you’re talking about post incident. We’re talking about preventative inspections.
The fire department did go to the building. They were there for 4 minutes. No further action has been reported. I live in this nasty city and I’ll say that it’s gotten worse with every passing year.
@Jacob Rzeszewski they are not talking about cops you dingus😅 talking about firemen.
@linda o Gosh I am so sorry to hear it. I wish people would step up and review things like this with a critical eye.
@JenaeMarie So do I. City officials need to step up on a lot of things. I won’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
Woops…😭😭😭
Sick and tired of people stepping up reporting a serious issue and nothing is done about it until it’s too late…. This needs to stop.
These people could have been evacuated and it would have saved lives. Very sad they did nothing about it.
The city is going to end up in a big lawsuit.
Trump prison 24
@mxsteirous not tje city
@.x. this has nothing to do with trump you dingus😅
It’s scary how many times they were warned, which is well documented. And now a 911 call the day before !
Think peeps
Corporations cut corners for profits and people die
I feel bad for Danny- They couldn’t find a better picture to put on the news?
Why exactly, fire dept never came in?
Come on 😢
So…he called…why did no one come look at it and condemn the building and evacuate it the day before?
Because not everyone has a 2nd home
Because it takes time to book an engineer appointment for building safety checks. These things take months.
@Simulation K yet engineers deemed the building safe in January and months later people are homeless and some dead. This is unacceptable.
@Music Love buildings can deteriorate rapidly due to environmental factors. It’s been half a year so yes, that is enough time.
American infrastructure be like
Of course no one sent the fire dept or state building inspector out to check it. You know those regulations people (& coronations) cry about? This is why we have them.
IT SEEMS AS THOUGH YOU ARE MORE LIKELY TO DIE IN A BUILDING COLLAPSE IN A RED STATE. DID THEY ALL ROLL BACK THE BUILDING SAFETY CODES LIKE DESATAN IN FLORIDA? HE DID THAT BEFORE THE DEADLY CONDO COLLAPSE. I THINK THEY HURRIED TO TEAR THOSE BUILDINGS DOWN SO NO ONE WAS HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR INACTION. SAME CASE HERE MAYBE?
Especially with a democrat mayor
woulda coulda shoulda …
if fire had gone out Saturday and mandated everyone evacuate immediately, lives would not have been lost in this specific manner ‼️
to live in hindsight is to live a perfect life, however, that does NOT apply here because in the closeout of this 911 call, the “reporter” asked if he should call back (follow up to make sure this matter was submitted for immediate attention) in 10 mins or so, and dispatch affirmed, yes
woulda coulda shoulda therefore does not apply …
FIRE DIDN’T DO, does
Fire has the authority to mandate evacuation — that should have happened Saturday AT THE LATEST
that’s it, that’s all ‼️
Imagine pushing a culture of willful ignorance, coercion, malice and deception “this far”.
I would say I have something to say, , but anybody who actually took the time to read this probably actually knows what I’m thinking.
Don’t worry if it doesn’t affect you where you don’t care you’ve already won
I’m calling it willful oversight.
Okay sooo… who is going to be charged for murde7… This should NOT have happened!
The building i work in is just as bad as these. Bowed out with walls about to crumble
This generation is too soft and caution.
You are on your own. No one in the government cares or wants to get involved.
Huh??? 🙄🤦
That mayor, and those officials will not be re-elected, and they should not be. Who did the inspections? Everyone involved should be arrested. If it were not for that one terrified woman, this might have slipped under the covers…
The owner of the building released a “thoughts and prayers” statement.
Honestly that line is so overplayed it’s become annoying.
Both predictable and preventable. Everyone involved should be arrested. From the inspectors, to the regulatory administration’s supervisors. WHY WASN’T IT CONDEMNED A YEAR AGO?
1❤
This recovery is going to be like Champlain towers in Florida.
The Pandemic exposed a lot a flaws in the system. This was made public 2 years ago. Expect to this to continue everywhere in America.
🌋🌋🌋🌋🌋🌋👺👺👹👹👹👺🌋🌋🌋
The buildings in the US are collapsing because the apartment CEO whatever isn’t doing his or her job to maintain up-to-date with today’s standards
Im sure that plywood is keeping the building standing strong, nothing to worry about…
Idk, I would think it’s still possible one or more of those 3 missing could be alive.
Right this was a engineering disaster the state of Iowa drop the ball big time.
Local officials confirmed they were warned and did nothing. Willful oversight at its finest.
Come on T-shirt and blazer combo!
Goodness. It’s starting to feel like China. Are we getting too much building materials from them or something?
I know it’s no where near as bad as the situation in China, because they have building collapses almost every month for the last few decades, but still. This isn’t acceptable. At all.
Sadly police or gov agences are not there to prevent bad stuff they just deal with the aftermath. 😢😢😢
Considering there is public record stating the building was unsafe and it was recommended to evacuate tenants as far as I’ve seen dated back to 2021. There were fines set in place to occur if not vacated yet the owner or city officials did not intervene to ensure the safety of the tenants. There’s going to be lots of explaining to do for covering this up.
Back further than that try 10 years
Only the city can force tenants out. There are Tennant laws that prohibit owners from just tossing tenants out. Learn the law first.
There was a 911 call but they were like “meh”. 🤦🏼
Just like the buildings collapsing in Florida and Connecticut, or the power grid failing twice during freezing winter in Texas, not to mention the train derailment with toxic waste in Ohio, republicans pocket all the taxpayer money instead of maintaining infrastructural integrity, and the lemmings keep voting red to “own the libs”.
Oh yeah cause it’s solely a one party problem, take your stupidity somewhere else you liberal
🙏🙏🙏 Please bow your head and say this prayer now 🙏
“Carry our prayers up to Gods throne, that
the mercy of the Lord may quickly come
and lay hold of the beast,
the serpent of old, Satan
and his demons, casting him
in chains into the abyss, so that
he can no longer seduce the nations.
Thank you for everything
CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE,
LORD GOD. Amen.” 🙏🙏🙏
If you can’t look and remember the words, just read and pray them while you have your head bowed and your hands in front of your face 🙏☺
Your God could have prevented this, and didn’t.
Um, no. I’ll leave it to those who are into that kind of thing.
The google street view of that building has similar temporary shoring. This sounds like an ongoing problem.
This is America
This is heartbreaking for the lived ones of the missing but the primary concern must be the safety of the people working on the collapse.
And still no republican governor of Iowa. You can bet she doesn’t vote for the working people….. shame on Kim Reynolds
Remember they wanted to tear down the building the next day when there were live people in it… coverup at it’s finest!
I’m sure as the news anchors breath there’s a person stuck under apartment bricks.
Can you believe that? The owner will get a $300 fine for this……total. I just warned the parking garage at Ascension St. John’s hospital here in Tulsa that there are cracks in the concrete everywhere with 3 to 4 inch holes all over t the garage.
The LLC owner will file for bankruptcy. Lability insurance will pay to the max of the policy. City may kick in a little. Then that will be divided among those damaged. section 8 housing at its best.
They were offered 6k and signed a waiver stating they can’t go after anyone. Many signed and took the 6k. I’ll bet the media won’t report that.
@Rumpleforeskin workman’s comp is the same. Take the insurance you can’t sue your employer.
i’ve heard rumors the building collapsed because it was made in china? any truth to this?
We’ve had years of republicans pushing deregulation in the state. This is what happens when you fail to regulate.
The city of Davenport is finally being exposed as the slumlord haven it is. This building isn’t the only one in Davenport that should have been condemned and demolished long ago. I hope that no one else has to go through this tragedy because Davenport doesn’t care about the citizens’ safety.
Hey, why didn’t NBC mention that not 12 hours after the initial collapse, the city deemed it a hazard and attempted to immediately demolish it? With 7 people still unaccounted for inside the partially collapsed building?
Or how the mayor is connected to the building and has a business relationship with the owner and insisted that the building come down as soon as possible?
Or how a woman was LITERALLY HANGING OUT THE WINDOW SCREAMING FOR HELP as the first responders refused to go in and the demolition crew were preparing to rip the building down?
They did about a dozen times keep up dingus
Greedy landlords caused this . . . bet they don’t live in Iowa and never have.
He lives in bettendorf. Hush your mouth if you cant produce facts.
I’ll bet you don’t live in Iowa because if you did you’d know the owner is from the area.because the news here clearly reports on it. So again hush that mouth.
@Rumpleforeskin sure the greedy mf does, sure . . . 😏
was this a trump property? seems like it
Horrifying, condolences to the victims. 🌹
Let me guess, NO BODY listened to 911 call, cidnt check,
The families of the victims are heartbroken, but they should sue left and right and I am sure they will.
No building collapses like that unless it was intentionally brought down. People believe whatever they’re told and have no idea of the laws of physics and the practice of structural engineering.
Yes, it does. Sorry it doesn’t fit your narrative.
Gotta large crack outside my apt door, that moves through my apartment. Inside they patched it over, but the hallway is very obvious. We called the county and they sent someone out who said with a shrug, it’s just the building settling. I’m disabled and poor. I can’t move. I’m on 52 waiting lists for housing, with some going back more than 2 years. The neglect of folks like me who worked hard and have fallen is shocking. Our lives meen very little to those who are able bodied or have Mom, and Dads, or Grandparents money to keep them safe. I know when I’m being stared at like I’m some walking disease. The building inspectors seem like their on the take from the wealthy scum lords who own these run down places. Never let yourself fall so far as you’re forced into subsidized housing. Although I tried to avoid it myself, but things just come apart suddenly sometimes. It’s been a learning experience, and no matter what you believe, no one wants this type of life. It’s not laziness; It’s a lack of opportunity combined with bad luck. I’ve documented my concerns and backed them with pictures I’ve sent my family, just in case they need to sue the county and owner one day. That’s all I can do. I’m too sick to live in a car.
Owner is in big trouble
Greedy landlord
At the very least, one would think that the man who made the 911 call on the previous day might’ve knocked on doors and gathered others in an attempt to inform the tenants on that side of the building to get out, even though it was not his professional responsibility. He’s not to blame by any means, yet it’s a sad state of affairs, and the fire department ought to be held accountable on some level, when in fact, they had enough information to inspect and evacuate the building 24 hours ahead of the collapse. Dumb.
As a local seeing my city on national news is mind-boggling.
The city of Davenport and the owner of this apartment need to be responsible for this collapse.
We live and work in a system where the surest way to make profits is to walk the boundaries of regulations. While crossing those boundaries is a gamble, the potential reward is often too tempting for stakeholders and even for operatives hoping for bonuses.
i hope the citizens sue the pd for lack of action of notice.
Pd has nothing to do with this ignoramus 😅
This is absolutely the governor’s doing. Just know every time you vote for a republican, your are voting to undo regulations like building codes! Voters at the end of the day are responsible because their votes chose to put in place a government that wants nothing more than to deregulate everything.
Whats sad is they offered tennants 6k and to sign a waiver many took the 6k and now cannot go against the city or owner.
This is so heart wrenching. We were failed by our city. May the fallen rest peacefully. 😢
How angry would you be if you lost family members in this knowing that people knew this was gonna happen!
