Homeowners are coming to terms with a new reality as they rebuild in the aftermath of hurricane Ian. According to the Insurance Information Institute, only about 18% of Florida homeowners have flood insurance, most of that through the federal government. In central Florida, which saw record flooding during Ian, less than 5% of homes have federal flood coverage.

WHAT A TRAGEDY FOR SURE! MY HEARTS GO OUT TO EVERYONE..I live in Ct and was looking to move to Orange county or Lee county in the Spring..I am now rethinking this decission..MY QUESTTION>>>> how do you even clean up after something like this? Where does all the wood and furniture go? What about the cement? What is done with it? what do they do with all the boats? my mind is boggled! thank you and God Bless everyone including all the rescuers xo
Coastal dwellers had enough yet?
And republican senators wanna refuse federal govt help. Vote wisely people of florida. De santos is not the guy
I was impressed in these last two days everyone are united helping each other some people were even donating food for pets
I love doing volunteer work
I am meeting people from everywhere !
The love is overcoming
pain✝️🇺🇸
Wow, and you will go to heaven because of this. Congratulations!
Too bad we can’t be like that every day…..😞 But we’ve gotta get back up there and jump over the person in front to get a bigger piece of the pie!, RIGHT??!! …OO-ESS-AYYY! OO-ESS-AYYY!
Climate change is a joke to so many, until they are impacted. 😳
Imagine we build all homes in flood prone areas on a foundation designed not only to encourage run off in a direction away from the home and communities averting accumulation, but that has an intelligent drainage system that activates a series of pump(s) when a flood is occurring and forces excess water away from properties. We have the engineers that can build this, and FL will have the funding. Do we have the developers that would take the risk of building something this expensive? It’s said that by 2050 areas like Ft. Meyers will be uninhabitable due to rising sea levels. Can this idea of how to rebuild change that? Venice was created years ago, and we know much more about engineering today.
Last year Progressive dropped 56,000 people in Florida because their roofs were older than 15 years. I switched after the hail storm because how they ripped us off. Progressive has no scruples.
Progressive was great for my first term, then they jacked my rates for no reason! Screw em
This year my roof turned 15 , still in good shape , no leaks , Insurance said put a new roof on , or we will drop you , I said good buy .
They knew the storm was coming. Didn’t clear the harbor, move people out, or nothing. House decore is a waste of money. Couple suits of cloths is all you need. I don’t care about your yacht or gold statues or trinkets. should had insurance. My apartment requires it. Don’t come crying to us.
I think I saw estimates of 50 billion just for clean up. A lot of people are not going to get paid
Great coverage;
I live in China. Everything is a scam here, from government funding to bank deposits to house buying. Everything is a scam.
Seriously if there is next life, I wish to be born in any other country, except China.
Dear all Americans, these people wanting to build in disaster prone areas are gonna cost you money. Their selfish actions directly effect you. Its time to have that convo.
Wars cost tons of $$$$! Let’s have shorter wars and spend the rest of $ budgeted for a 20 yr. war and spend it helping Americans rebuild!
I’m in Central Florida. For the past few years I’ve been BEGGING my widowed mother to move back up north to Pennsylvania, our home state. It’s not perfect, but as I pointed out to her, after Hurricane Ian swept through Florida, we NEVER had an annual anxiety attack about some looming natural disaster out at sea possibly making landfall, threatening lives and homes. We also didn’t have to do battle with insurance companies who drag their feet when it comes to claims on damaged roofs, or worse. I told her this is not a normal life. The worse we ever had to worry about were snowstorms, and they weren’t so awful – they didn’t tear roofs off of houses, or cause devastating floods. Now she’s at least agreed to think about getting out of that peninsula which is really a swampy barrier reef against dangerous winds that NO ONE should’ve ever built on, let alone lived on, imo.
We’d welcome you back with open arms. PA is beautiful this time of year. 🌞
Mom please come back to this crime ridden fentanyl Laden’s place it’ll be fun yeah you got more chances of being killed by a drug addict Criminal then hurricanes but it’ll be fun
@Samantha B yep you’ve never lived life to you Ben to Philly and seen a crackhead fentanyl head whatever they are take a s*** right in the middle of the road while the rest of them are all camped out shooting up Daddy what are they doing what do you tell your kids when you have to see that on a daily basis
@Samantha B Thank you!! 🙂 And it is! 🍁🍂🍁🍂 And – I’m already back! But I’m still trying to urge my mom to leave Florida and it’s annual hurricanes behind!
@Mystical Margaret Good luck will say a prayer 🙏🏻
Never donate to any disaster relief. I was made homeless by Ian and can only get help from FEMA. Not even food.
Elon is helping Ron with the cleaning up
Who will benefit from the money being raised by the governor’s wife Casey???!!!
Hurricanes arrive in Fla. Too much salt water between ears
I hope that we didn’t lose too many MAGA Americans. We need our MAGAs too defeat this radical regime
U didn’t think a hurricane could hit?🤔
The insurance companies sure knew devastation could occur
Obviously. They actually look at the data from climatologist and do the math. The frequency of cat4 and cat5 has been increasing rapidly over the past 20 years. Insurance companies is just probability.
Florida has grown over several decades due go several factors which include climate, economic growth, and before…cheaper living cost. But now Florida has became overpopulated.
Just right where Hurricane Michael went through…real estate investors have bought up forest that were damage and clearing them up to build more homes.
Its all about money and Floridians whose families have lived there for over 100 years are leaving because they cant afford the inheritance taxes to keep their family land.
Yeah, Florida is getting very expensive according to my sister. Not quite up there with California – yet – but every year it’s going up. My sister is already making plans to move out of the state, now that her kids are grown, and all but one live out of state.
Seems bizarre that they aren’t required to have flood insurance by the mortgage companies. I live in Central Washington nowhere near any areas where it could possibly flood and we had to pay for a report to show that we aren’t in a flood are for the mortgage company.
The mortgage company wants to make $$$ too
@Crixxus uG how are they going to make money if properties they loan money on are destroyed and people don’t have flood insurance? You think people are going to keep paying hundreds of thousands of dollars on houses or businesses that are washed away?
Yeah, I live in an area where banks won’t give out home loans for houses and land with 1000 ft of High Tension Power Lines. Because they have bad re-sale.
@Uptin Sinclaire you are right. And in most cases flood insurance is required depending on the class of flood zone you are in. Many different flood zones in the state. But when you are a large lender it becomes a numbers game. Much like the people who live in dangerous areas, they think it is highly unlikely
Secure Climate funds from fraudsters is top of the list.
Use natural environment methods. Build flood swales.
What would you do next time now that next time is now?
Jeremiah 49:12-13 For thus saith the Lord; Behold, they whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunken;and art thou he that shall altogether go unpunished? thou shalt not go unpunished, but thou shalt surely drink. For I have sworn by myself, saith the Lord, that Bozrah (Edom) shall become a desolation,a reproach,a waste, and a curse;and all the cities thereof shall be perpetual wastes.
Why go they build wooden houses? We have bick houses in the UK anf the don’t float away when we have storm seaso Nov to Dec then Snow un Scptlad Dec to March. Would it help?
Wood is cheap.
Most houses are made out of concrete in south Florida
what’s the point in getting insurance if the federal government comes in with FEMA to bail ppl out some…do ppl with insurance still get FEMA? probably not lol
Floridians don’t need to worry, the rest of the country will pay for it!
🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Blayne is gorgeous and articulate! Her hair is fantastically beautiful and she looks so natural.
You are such an American. We can’t have a disaster without make-up, now can we?
80 percent of people in Florida live there because they don’t want to pay a tax. I think Florida should rightly wither and die. I don’t want a pennyof my taxes to help any of those miserable people. The people they elect to represent and lead them are deplorable monsters. Let them eat their cake. They don’t want to pay taxes? Well then I say fuckem.
Send De Santis some paper towels
Where is Trump and MAGA supporters?.. I am sure the home owners in this affected people can expect assistance from Republican MAGA supporters and Trump in this real time of need.. I am sure they are eager to Make America Great again by building Florida.. Fact remains if they don’t care then that is their stand.. .. Building up after any disaster you are on your own.. forget democracy, will of people.. elections , primary none of that matters for your time of need.. Go and Figure out MAGA supporters and be wise enough to understand that..
all those good republicans will be taking public money to rebuild their lives but don’t extend the same empathy to anyone else that needs a “hand-out”,,floriduh is mostly a shith*le country because of the confederate ding dongs and the senior parasites destroying the world
Vote Republican and this would not happen yea right
We gave millions to theUkrainians for war . Let’s see how much we give to our American citizens.
not millions.. billions…over $50 Billion to be precise
A lot of Floridians were hoping hurricane Ian would have caught Marco Rubio by those enormous Ear Flaps of his and Sail him right back to Cuba!
Kinda baffles me that he says he doesn’t think ahead that something like this might happen
Roofing companies exploit insurance companies. It is well documented in our state. Hurricanes are not fully to blame for massive premiums called for by the insurance companies. The Florida government has done very little to combat the mass fraud being committed year round.
Before y’all get all “why didn’t they have insurance?” Just know that after Wilma MANY insurance companies just filed bankruptcy, so they got our money amd didn’t pay a dime towards losses. They gave it to their lawyers instead. So “once burned” and all that.
If you live on the gulf, hurricanes. You live on the west coast? Earthquakes, fires, droughts. You live north? Snowstorms and freezes. You live in the middle? Tornadoes. So if you live in a place with those problems government shouldn’t help you when it happens right? Riiiight…
No matter where you live you are going to weather the storm one way or another. Also does this logic of moving apply to all the people populating the islands in Hurricane alley? Where would they all go?🙄
Well John next time Build a building that is more inland and the first floor should be at least 25’ above Mean Gulf High tide. And build your building out of Solid Fiberglass strands reinforced concrete. Florida is right smack in the middle of Hurricane Alley.
Think simple. Festival-style, kitchens on wheels for starters. Good food? If you cook it, they will come. 🙏🏾
high cost
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Hข่าวช่องอื่นเชื่อไม่คอยได้หลอกคะ
Reading some of these comments, it’s not God controlling the weather, and we all know who is and benefits from this including the wildfires of CA
NBC, not wanting too state the obvious….”Floridians Face A Costly Reality In Hurricane Ian’s Aftermath”…geee, I hadn’t thought of that…
Have we crossed the point of no return in terms of damaging the planet? There is no such point. We need to trust that our thought, which is our greatest quality, can change nature. We only need to understand the direction to which we should aim our thoughts. What should we think about? What condition or state should we aspire to and ask for?
In order to save our planet, we should think about positive human connections. That is, how can we, in our connections, keep nature safe? How can we all together protect our world? If we truly wish to better our planet, then we should see people holding a concern for how to positively connect everywhere that we look.
It has nothing to do with recycling or other activities that we commonly associate with as being sustainable. If we come closer to and consider each other, that we will reach an entirely organic, perfectly connected and round state, then the negative forces will disappear from the world.
We need to understand that if we start thinking better about each other, then the planet will recover from all harm, because our thoughts are the strongest force in nature. Likewise, our negative thoughts about each other are entirely to blame for damaging the planet. That is why the more we recycle and invest in energies and activities that we commonly think of as being sustainable, the worse our planet becomes. Nothing will work to benefit us until we reach a state where our attitude changes toward each other for the better to protect and improve our planet.
Has Florida launched a class action lawsuit against God yet?
Love to see how Maga Republicans justify this loan process? Because it’s going to be needed in the trillions.
It’s funny how no one ever talks about how disproportionate amount of the money collected to bail out red states after natural disasters come form blue states, or to be more exact, blue areas.
Meanwhile republicans are allowed to vote against any and every policy which would help mitigate the enormity of the damage caused, such as infrastructure and what not
AND
Not only do they reliably vote against such policy they then turn around and take credit for whenever it ends up benefiting their own constituents… again, after they’ve voted against it.
THATS how a shameless politician can publicly refuse help for other states in need of emergency funding, yet the following month go on national tv and expect to be given that same kind of money for their own state after they’ve experienced their own disaster.
It’s absolutely shameful!
Don’t get me wrong, the democrats have their problems, but as far as I’m concerned, at this point supporting the Republican Party is the equivalent to failing an IQ test.
People in a war zone say:” It’s a hurricane zone.”
Builders, and real estate conpanies, love the stupid money they get from ” gotta be in Florida” people.
As to be expected of the Race Baiting Soviet Democrat Party – FEMA should issue funding PRIMARILY based on “race” with preferences given to ‘black’ people over ‘white’ people… the follow up should have been “What if they speak Spanish?”
https://youtu.be/DbRkK0mPQ4A
Don’t all the climate change models show Florida becoming part of the ocean with sea level rise? Rebuilding won’t fix it.
Well… if they keep rebuilding on top of the rubble of they might be able to raise the ground level.
Man! These people should have been warned about hurricanes before moving to FL!! I was going to move there in 2001 and decided against it because somebody told me about hurricanes and I knew I couldn’t deal with that burden. Oh well, rebuild and wait for the next hurricane to come so you can do it all over again.
I have lived here since 1969 , storms are hit and miss , the west coast of Fla is more vulnerable then east coast , we take our chances for the year round good sunny weather , people inland have a much better chance to dodge the storm then folks along the gulf coast .
give them no federal money they choose to live there
If you don’t have insurance, you have no insurance company to call. Try FEMA.
Miami should of got hit harder🤟🏻
between sea level rise and more intense storms, you have to rocks in your head or your crack piple to live in that mosquito larva petry dish that is Florida.
Leave it to the media to politicize natural disasters.
That Fish Company Can Get Money From the Government
It’s time to Nationalize ALL insurance companies.
In Communist countries the government comes and fixes your property for FREE.
Here in this fake democracy, you’re on your own.
Hurricanes come regularly, and many people forget that many have always been catastrophic. People choose to live in their path, and the beauty of nature also comes with it’s dangers. Somehow, many are always surprised.
No, the situation has changed. Climate change predicted Hurricanes like Ian. They have become bigger, more frequent, and more powerful. Sea level rises due to warming temperatures are real. Insurance companies see and comprehend the science with the results, and the refusal of governments like the state of Florida to acknowledge and mitigate the problems. Insurance companies are pulling out of these situations. There is no profit in Ideological ignorance. You can’t pass it off as business as usual.
Hey…be conservative, remember that? Don’t live beyond your means…oh what? Doesn’t apply to you? What I thought…
Of the eight tropical storms, Beryl in 2012 and Alberto in 2018 were the two to make landfall in the Sunshine State. Now Ian in 2022.
I know this sounds bizarre, strange, and down right crazy but if you continue to get hit with hurricanes why not move to a location without such natural disaster?
It would only take 1 for me to know I cannot afford to rebuild nor is it safe to raise a family.
Should flood insurance be made mandatory … should taxpayers just keep picking up the tab .. or should we reconsider the advisability of building in such areas?
God’s Wrath on the Racist Trump Supports and Trailer Park dwellers who hate Latinos and blacks. These Trump Supports will pay and two more hurricanes are on the way now.
Almost every insurance companies in Florida have folded and now you get a policy and they cancel you 3 months later for no reason. Because everyone got their roofs replaced after Michael now they broke 💯
FEMA DEATH CAMPS IN EVERY STATE AND COAST IN WATERS, BARGES OF EXECUTION
CAMPS FOR DEPOPULATION UNDERWAY.
CABAL OF COURSE OF GUESS WHO THE ZIONIST CULT OF APARTHEID.
There may not be another storm surge like this for another 500 years. Does that mean that people should not be able to get insurance. And for those of you that don’t know … there is a 5000 minimum deductible for hurricanes even with very high premiums .Money that has been coming in to the insurance companies for years with no problems. So…. the taxpayer is not paying for it. Major Insurance companies are very wealthy , so don’t feel so bad for them. That is what insurance is for. That’s why it’s called INSURANCE
Bidenflation affects everyone
There seems to be a compounding acceleration effect that I’m not sure is talked about enough.
Global warming is getting worse causing more storms, people in the path of those storms very unstably will rebuild. I don’t judge them for it, but the increase in co2 output from more places in the world needing to rebuild will increase co2 levels and deforestation for so many places around the world rebuild more and more often.
Beware of scammers ☝️☝️☝️look up the handle for sure recommendation and guide he ships swiftly and got shrooms, lsd,Dmt,mdma, ayahuasca, chocolate bar, microdosing capsules and other psychedelic products. 💯reliable source.
dang it is it over?
i was really rooting for ian.
Why didn’t people who owned a boat move it before the storm came?
lol, FL has no income tax. Geez, maybe have an income tax to build your own insurance program, but…I guess that’s socialism.;
Sorry but I do not feel all that bad for them, they chose to live there, they should know hurricanes are likely, and to chose not to have flood insurance is just nuts.
I don’t mean to be insensitive but I don’t understand how someone can say yeah we just don’t see this coming/happening to us. You live in Florida. This literally happens every single year.
Lived in Florida 3 years, the state is a rip off, right to work state, you can find jobs but they’ll let you go(not fire you)for any reason they choose, cause you can find another down the street…rents impossible, unless you want a shack lots of shacks! Except for the rich, corporate execs live good. Oh and sand lots of sand in everything, your hair, your eyes, your food, saltwater, too…in your car, yeah get one of those yearly. I feel sorry for those that fall for all it’s high risk…a lot of folks get burnt figuratively and physically. I rethought it and left, not sorry.
Some of these people probably were just renters, but you only see them talk about home owners. The renters are like “oh well, we lost some stuff.” 😅
😂😂😂😂
New york prices in tropical storm state? You will not survive financially over time.Low land was a known pre sale.
Maybe the citizens will vote in their interest this November. We’ll see. If not, then they can’t have my out-of-state tax money anymore…
Even more proof that insurance is scam.
God spoke to Florida!
Florida voted no to funding federal aid, but the best president Biden will help all us citizens!
Red state of thiefs!
No, you don’t get FEMA $. You choose to live there and not buy flood insurance this is what you get. Take responsibility for yourself!
At some point a reckoning of cost/benefit and increased probability is going to have to be looked at. If you get a CAT 4 every 4 to 5 years, you’ve really hit that point of reckoning. The insurance companies have already made the calculation. Let’s look at their numbers. Not to mention its all going to be underwater soon enough. Run the odds through Vegas and Wall st. and see what they have to say. Next time they still won’t have the insurance coverage. This isn’t working, time to give up Florida to the sea.
.#zZz#.⚡⬆️⬇️💀☢☢☣….
No offense to floridians, but after like 5 hurricanes in a row year over year,
wouldn’t you think “Oh maybe I should move?”
They can get FEMA
Sounds like socialism….best let them go it alone. .. as they voted
Now Floridians you’re going to be tempted to get help from the government but don’t do it. Remember you have bootstraps.
Finally America looks like a third world 🌍 country, so much for thinking it’s the wealthiest country in the world
Don’t worry! DeSantis and MAGA Republicans will have your bootstraps! Pull hard!!
Not one red cent from my tax dollars should go to these people to rebuild their homes, or buy them out so they can buy elsewhere. They chose to live in hurricane alley, chose to not have flood insurance. They can figure it out for themselves.
