That color looks oddly like ammonium nitrite we saw in beiruit fires…. you know that ammonium nitrite 30 tons stolen fromt he train going from WY to CA…yeh that stuff acts as an accelerant and oddly makes the air color orange or red…. hmmmm causes severe respiratory sx. No one will be bugging out to canada wont be any good for hunting…. mid west water in the US river had train dump toxic material there….. kinds of like limiting anyones plans to bug out to those areas…. seems odd with all the animal culling going on around the world. Just think of how us Canadians feel in the thick of it. It not good for either side of the border. Just a few weeks ago here in Alberta we were going through the same thing and the smoke from our fires was felt all the way to the UK.
From a Canadian … we have edge-to-edge forest/wild fires from the Pacific Coast to the Atlantic. Our country is on fire, and we’re evacuating whole towns & small cities … we are ALL so very sorry for how this has affected other people, especially our favourite people, the New York City people (but everyone else too!!).
About 4 weeks ago it was only Alberta ablaze… and our air quality was just as bad as NYC right now. My nose burned from the smoke, we’re about the size of the UK & had over 100 fires out of control in a heavily forested zone (about half of Alberta) and we ALL should have been wearing masks to protect ourselves from the ash/soot (it rained down on my car every day & night & I would have to use windshield wipers to wipe the ash off so I could see to drive!).
Please, USA friends, accept our apologies for this. We’ve had less rain in each forest zone for over 15 years now … we’re doing our best to put them out & are very sorry that our southern friends are affected (and, we believe, the lower-income & disadvantaged people down there are having this worse … please help your fellow city- & town-mates, regardless of their income status. Keep INSIDE until this is over! I have a horrible cough, because of how bad it was … I thought staying inside was enough but I should have been wearing an N95 mask!

I live in BC, and we’re prone to wildfires every year, but it’s unbelievably bad this year. As someone who has experience with wildfire smoke: drink lots of water, do not exercise outdoors, avoid outdoors in general and try to wear masks if you can. Stay safe!

Not nearly as bad in VT. Had a hint of orange sky for a day, then a couple days later were back to normal. We got rain and that likely helped coear the air. But I think a huge factor in it not being so bad is that we don’t have as much air pollution in general. My town has 5k people.

I invented a device called the Broad Air Pro mask. It filters air through a hepa filter and a small fan blows the clean filtered air up through a rubber hose and into your mask. It comes with an M95 mask, or you can cut a hole into your own personalized mask. When California experiences wild fires, that’s what I use; and I’ll stick the small hepa fan box inside my shirt or jacket for that little extra filtration.
