Sea World rescue workers rushed to save the 33-foot whale tangled in netting off Australia’s Gold Coast. Environmental campaigners say shark nets should be taken down during the migration season as even whales that get rescued sometimes die due to the stress involved.

Thank-you for freeing this beautiful creature! 🙂
… so they could capture it?
It’s like the whale knows they’re are there to help
He’ll no 🐖
@Printiss Grahamyou only had to spell TWO words right and you couldn’t even manage that. Very unfortunate. Maybe you shouldn’t leave youtube comments while you are latched on and breastfeeding.
And yes, the whale obv knows. Why would you think the whale is stupid and unaware? Because it doesn’t speak English or have thumbs?
✝️🩸
This happens every whale season, June to November. Multiple whales get caught in shark nets along this part of Australia’s east coastline. The nets are there to give tourists a false sense of security, locals do not want them, sharks can easily swim under or over the nets. They do not reach the top or bottom of the water, nor span the entire length of the beaches. Dolphins, dugongs, turtles, stingrays, and many other marine life get caught in the nets all year round. Thousands die, they are not cut out or rescued. Infact 46 yr old surfer, Nick Slater, was fatally mauled by a shark off this very beach back September in 2020.
Locals have also called for the nets to be removed during whale season.
Thanks for explaining bc I thought this was fisherman net. But I guess if they check this nets regularly it would help but by what you are saying it kills more than it helps keep sharks out. Humans, always wanting to have their way. I wonder if we were meant to be out there swimming in all that water like that anyway….but our desire to just do whatever we want whenever is costing us.
@ladyj5682 I couldn’t agree more. We have the ability to make safe water swimming pools for ourselves, but we choose to get in the way of nature for our own wants.
#SWIMATYOUROWNRISK!
Ocean Wildlife have NEVER came onto land and attacked!
What a great idea, remove the nets during whale season. Appreciate the rescuers saving this magnificent whale. ♥️👍♥️
@COEXIST 2020That’s a very IMMATURE comment…
Humans are disgusting. These nets should never have been implemented but of course, here we are. Animals are so fkd in this world, and solely because humans are garbage.
SeaWorld should get on with freeing their own animals to sanctuary sea pens. AU should ditch the stupid nets as well.
I had the same thought!
This should never even happen. Jon Lien a renowned marine biologist, who has visited and lectured at Sea World Australia, invented an alarm called the Lien pinger that only Humpback whales can hear, and alerts them to nets in the water. He saved the fisheries off the coast of Newfoundland Canada back in the 1970’s and 80’s. Technology that already exists to fix this problem is not being applied by people who should know better.
What was the net there for? Capturing free creatures or messing with the barrier reef.
I can’t remember the specifics but I think it’s one of those measures the gov put in years ago after a shark attack. Of course there was an outcry because shark is just doing their thing but they still put it in anyway.
Supposedly to keep sharks away from swimmers but they’re ineffective and cause more animal deaths than they save any human life. Honestly, we are in the animals’ environment and it should simply be “swim at your own risk”. Humans need to stop altering the ocean environment and meddling with other ecosystems for their own selfish means….like swimming.
Wado!! (Thank You) The Creator will reward you for saving that whale!!
Thank God!
Shark nets?! Good grief. Poor oceans, marine mammals, ocean health, oxygen, fish, corals etc Thank goodness for rescuers!
Why does Australia permit the use of shark nets?! So surprises by that. Say goodbye to your Great Barrier reef.
Lol what?
Im given to understand the health of a reef depends in part on the health of its shark population and since shark hunting is permitted (sharks net) we can infer the health of great reef will decline along with decline in sharks over time. What a pity that is.
I may also misunderstand what shark nets are for in Australian waters.
Great job.👍
OMG .. Fantastic … Heroes ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Thank you ❤
Wonderful.
We need to go back to swim at your own risk. No safety nets!
Hey everyone They freed Willy
Wonderful
Thank you so much for rescued the amazing whale ❤️ God bless you all 🙏
Save the whale
Save black people
@Printiss Graham ignorant individual
It was great watching the whale cooperate! 😮😃
❤❤❤
Sorry Japan, you can’t eat….ah I meant you can’t ‘study’ this one.
I don’t know we still have these stupid nets. Australia stopped hunting sharks after they’d killed someone a few years ago. We finally came to our senses that killing sharks just doing their thing was stupid so I don’t know why we keep nets out when they cause more trouble than they are worth
Looked like he sort of knew what they were doing. He lifted that flipper almost what seemed to give them better access to it.
Thank goodness for incredible people who risk their lives saving endangered sea life. It’s very sad that it has come to this. There needs to somehow be stricter laws on these disgusting fishing lines in our oceans.
The whale def knew what transpired there
I can’t believe SeaWorld and rescue workers are in the same statement.😮
I know, I guess times change, hopefully…
Marketing
Marketing exactly!
@Vicki Hodges hopefully. They’ve done enough harm these past decades . Hopefully they pay it back and then some saving instead of kidnapping.
@Ubchug 4Life absolutely.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
🙏
Wow!
Amazing job, well done & thank you
Oh my god thank you 🙏. What an amazing job. You have to feel like your standing on the moon. Praying your able to help if need be again. The animals know when your there to help them or hurt them. It’s an unexplained feeling that people & animals get. Your aura too helps.
Stories like this deserve more than 2 minutes of your YouTube time, NBC!
Oh my goodness! Blessed this whale was freed and saved.
A big clap for those daring men
Hearing the whale breathing for air sounded like he was struggling and gasping for air 😢 poor thing what an amazing job to save lives while getting paid!
Maybe get rid of the shark nets or move them closer to the beach
We are ruining the only planet we can live on. Not just for ourselves but the animal and plantlife.
Great job Men! 👍
❤ love it ❤
Hooray for the few humans left in this world! You’ve done a great, noble thing! I thank you, and so do the whales. Kudos…
It all starts with the man or woman in the mirror. Be the change YOU desire.
Excellent and why all of us should stop eating commercially caught fish.
Then what they bring it to sea world and lock it up
If this is what they do with their profits, I’ll go to the park again
Why aren’t you diving? But doing it from a boat? And pulling the whale towards you? 🤦🏼♀️
Shark nets??? so they catch sharks there?
Why are there shark nets there anyway?!
Amazing,Love this!
How come this doesn’t have 100k likes?
THIS is what SeaWorld should focus on. Great job. 👏🏾 This is a much better look than Blackfish.
Whales are very intelligent! It knew they were trying to help. By lifting up its flipper as for them to get it off better. He knew the Assignment 🐳 And it basically stayed put till it was free. That was amazing to see.
Exactly what I was thinking. Had that been a great white shark (all muscle – no brains) it would have manically thrashed until it was unconscious and probably capsized that boat 😂!
@Rodney Freeman lol true
That was so beautiful 😢😊❤❤❤
Job well done. Nice…
Thk u angels 😇😇😇🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🥰🥰🥰🥰💜
Sad that they leave those nets in the water. There needs to be police on the seas to stop these fools. Guess thats the coast guard ..amp it up. Thanks God he was so close to top of water peopel could see him.. God’s creation should be taken care of and humans need to stop doing pointless foolishness.
Thank GOD!!! And thank God for such amazing volunteers!!!
Thanks to those people who rescue them
I believe that all such netting from boats should be retrieved from the sea, too many fishing boats in the past have disguarded unwanted and damaged nets into the sea. Without thinking about the harm such items will do. Should be brought back to land and recycled. I’m glad the whale is free ,thanks to the rescuers.
I really needed to see this. Great job saving the whale:)
God Bless you!!!! Thank you Thank you Thank you! 🙏🙏🙏❤️
Poor creature! It must have been terrified. Thank goodness for the rescuers’ quick intervention.
They need to make these nets illegal!
Very sad to read that some whales die due to stress of being caught and the experience of the net trapping them.Humans are the the worst animals..go swim in a pool !!!
Take the nets down the sea belongs to those inhabitants not us..go use a swimming pool if worried about sharks.
Maybe this whale will spread the word about good humans to the Orcas 😬
God bless to the people who help animals.
This is so sad..😢
🐳👏🥳🙌
So amazing, thank you guys for saving this amazing animals life
Did their helmets say, Sea World Rescue Research & Rescue Foundation ? 🤔
