Paul Triolo of Albright Stonebridge Group said China’s export curbs on chipmaking metals is a way of giving itself a “tool” to fight back against the U.S. and Europe which have blocked its access to advanced chip technology.

China is only staring a baby steps of retaliation against the numerous banning by US on China.
Enemies of China should consider themselves lucky . China can do without US but not the other way round.
This measure is very selective, not a blanket ban. For example, a western company, who seeks such metals, can simply ask the Chinese companies to apply for the license with needed info, e.g. how the products will be used. As long as it doesn’t violate Chinese interests, such as metals come to weapons delivered to Taiwan, then the purchase should be given a green light. Those western companies won’t have the incentive to procure metals produced by the West as they can easily have metals from China (given that it satisfies the aforementioned requirements).
China national interest is become rubber band. Everything can become threat to national interest. Same like US
This has nothing to do with Taiwan. it is about the more and more sanction against China. The US used to ban high end EUV machine to China, now they forced ASML and Japan companies to stop selling low end DUV and chip making chemicals to China. China had to retaliate.
Unlike what the US lied to you, China has no interest to invade Taiwan. China has a grand plan, they want to prosper. However, Taiwan’s situation seems to be out of control, if US makes Taiwan to declare independence, then China will have to unite Taiwan immediately. Like it or not, US has no means to stop the unification from happening. Even if US and Japan joins forces together, they won’t win aginst China.

This is an excellent tit-for-tat action against the US hegemony that tries to ban China from getting advanced semiconductor making equipment and advanced chips such as Nvidia AI chips. Now China will make the US unable to make those advanced semiconductor chips. What a wonderful trade war!
US does not have command of chips unless Japan and Netherlands help and it has too because it is occupied by strong US armies post there. If these countries were Chinese friends then US will also be in a difficult position.
US based companies.. are not sourcing through “US TRADE” from China. They source through Taiwan, and Japan.

As we can see every move by China is strategic and very tactical. The consequences are very targeted and hard hitting on the chips supply chain. I am surprised that US is whining like a stuck pig. Didn’t they see that coming with all the sanctions against China.
