Video shows the moment Australian sailor Tim Shaddock and his dog Bella were rescued by the crew of a Mexican tuna fishing boat after spending three months adrift in the Pacific Ocean. Shaddock set sail from the Mexican city of La Paz in April but a storm knocked out his electronics and ability to cook weeks into his voyage.

#rescue #ocean #sailing
So happy to hear that him and his dog have been rescued and they are both now safe. I can’t even imagine being stuck out at sea, thank God he had his beloved dog for company.
He gave up the dog as soon as he got to safety:-(
@xsydor26why?
@xsydor26it wasn’t his dog but he found it on the streets of Mexico thedpg kept following him and he wanted a home for that dog
He couldn’t afford the fee to move the fog over to australia
Dogs aren’t allowed to be imported to Australia from Mexico 🙁
Wonderful Saved !!!
This guy is a P.O.S. Don’t make him out to be some AMAZING Man. After being out to sea with the companionship of Bella, he no longer wants her and is giving her up for someone to adopt. I can’t believe this guy’s thinking.
I agree. Humans are callous & selfish compared to a dogs loyalty.
Not sure about this. He gave Bella away after saying her companionship helped him survive? Bella looked well fed to me.
He said they ate raw fish and had fishing material on board. Considering they also collected a lot of rainwater and had fresh water tank, it’s pretty understandable.
Departed from Mexico?
Why are they treating him like a potential criminal? Asking all those stupid questions.
Get him to a safe place, then you can ask those dumb questions
Maritime law.
Hellooo? They must follow a protocol established by the U.S. Coast Guard and document the incident in video…
In Mexico
On one hand its like “Just rescue the guy, ask 1000 questions later… But then you think about the world we live in for just 2 seconds and your like yup, surprised they didn’t have a metal detector wand and then do a cavity search as well, JUST to be safe.”
Well yea there are lots of risks at sea in a known smuggling zone. It’s not like hte guy was on a life raft where one can see everything.
Look at that cute little doggie; he woul dbe happy either way
This is one guy who truely deserves a GOFUNDME page
GIMMY, A, HAMBERGER…
I don’t understand? In another video he said he had a Garmin inreach and was in touch with his family daily. Is there something I’m missing? Did he not want to call for help? It looks like he is sailing a wharam design catamaran.
Glad he didn’t eat the dog or the dog didn’t eat him ………. What you know you think it to 😂
Sad and amazing at the same time ❤
Eprib and satellite phone should be a requirement of anybody going into the ocean. It’s just common sense. They both work anywhere in the world.
The questions were asked because the USA smuggles guns into Mexico for the drug cartels.
An EPIRB costs about $650, and it has a 48 hour battery that sends a rescue signal to satellites in the sky. It floats and all you need is a clear line of sight to the sky. Sure, that’s a lot of money for some people. But if you own a catamaran, which probably cost a decent chunk of change, it’s a small price to add onto the boat. This guy decided a radio was all he needed, until it got knocked out by a storm. A solar panel to charge the batteries as well.
That’s homebuilt Wharram catamaran they’re cheap especially one in that condition.
He had a working sat-phone and was in communication with his family the whole time.
It’s BS
Liveaboard sailor for 14 years.
Weird rescue moment……..,…
That’s harassment – not a rescue.
They must follow a protocol established by the U.S. Coast Guard and document the incident in video, otherwise they might get in trouble, there are rules to follow…
@Sigmund Groth Rules are for fools.
@paul sawczycand dead men tell no tales..you don’t know what goes on at sea you probably have never even been out on the ocean or out of the basement for that matter.
@Gary Castronova Old guy in a boat with his dog – really dangerous.
@paul sawczyc : Oh, okay.
And he didn’t even eat the dog?
Aww the Mexican crew are saviors. Thank goodness for them.
This is a sailboat, why is he not sailing? No electronics, no compass ok but you can still sail. Seems a little suspicious.
The sun rises in the east, toward the giant coast of mexico from where he departed. He lost nav and communications 3 weeks out. Something aint right.
NOT prepared at all!
100’s of sailboats make the passage to the Marquesas Islands from either Mexico or Panama every year. This guy was not prepared for this long voyage. It is one of the longest that any sailboat will ever take.
They acted like this feeble weak stranded man was high value threat 😂 glad he is safe and sound now
When you are at sea you must follow a protocol to rescue persons, this is mandated by the U.S. Coast Guard, otherwise you might get in trouble…
Please inform us of your extensive training and expertise with the Coast Guard’s rescue procedures and protocols.
They can’t see everything that’s in the boat. For all they know there could be someone else hiding. There are many stories of good Samaritans being assaulted robbed and killed. And from what I have read his story is suspicious and his boat was not a derelict so they probably picked up on that as well
@Dirty Lemon : Did I say that I received training by the Coast Guard? But don’t worry, many people have problems with comprehension of the English language.
@Sigmund Groth Nice try.
For people complaining about all the questions:
-The helicopter that first spotted him threw him some water and supplies and later returned with the rescue boat.
-He was obviously in a lucid state and able to answer questions so his condition wasn’t critical.
– You don’t know this man, yes he’s obviously in a life threatening situation but you don’t know what’s in that boat or his mental state or if he is a wanted criminal and law enforcement should be notified. Cartels often move through int waters close to the pacific
-Rescue team didn’t know for how long he was lost at sea, and probably neither did he. Imagine not talking to another person for 3 months, you might start disassociating and going insane. Just talking to him probably brought him back to reality: what’s your name? Where are you from? Where and when did you leave? Etc
-He got immediate medical attention after he boarded
Thanks for explaining. That makes complete sense. We knew he was and his situation. His rescuers knew nothing about him. They had to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves. It seemed harsh, but I am sure he understood. Thank God for this happy ending.
Imagine thinking that this dude was some kind of criminal
@Jani Kakka did they treat him like a criminal for asking questions for 3 min while they pulled closer to him?
Be human. Quit parroting the same military industrial corporate BS that these psychopaths wrote into their manuals years ago demanding everyone get PC or get gone. It’s OK to feel, to empathize, to take a little risk. When you think there’s nothing after this life you will take every potential thought of a threat way too serious and live a paranoid life. Live boldly with common sense and love for others.
Those dogs in Lapaz are known for being friendly and happy. I lived there. He rescied that doggo there. 😭
His poor eyes were just burnt from the sun and water. He took care of his dog so well.
Stop resisting!!
Gosh, I was just saying how lucky I would feel if I won the PowerBall.
How did he not run out of fresh water?
Where is the rest of video?
There are like 5 or 6 more videos, look them up…
@Sigmund Groth I have looked but can’t find the rest of it.
This guy is really lucky and God indeed have saved him. The fact that he was even able to managed to live for 2 months surviving on raw fish and rainwater along with his dog is one extreme test of survival!
Did God put him in that situation as well? Why does God get all the credit for his rescue, yet seemingly the same God would have to be culpable for his being put in the situation in the first place, by this self same logic, yes?
God, if it exists, does not interfere in our lives. Stop giving him credit for things he had nothing to do with, especially when you refuse to give him blame for the same.
@jurupa HE SAVED THE MAN! WATCH THE VIDEO unless you’re BLIND!
@Zack D Yes another man did not God.
He saved himself for 3 months and the crew saved him god done nothing you dope
@Michael Deaton Funny, I literally had the exact same thoughts, and used similar logic, when I wrote my answer a little earlier…
AMAZING what God is capable of – one could get the idea, that he is the guy responsible for all actions …
Think about if he used all his energy to do people and animals nothing but good – That would that be the ideal World, or would it? 🙂
If I had to be stranded, I would want to be stranded with my dog.
The dog is healthy wow surprising
And didn’t eat him! 😂
@Vibesand that show how loving and care he is to his dog! 😁👍💞
someone should have immediately handed him and his dog some clean water??
The helicopter that found the guy had dropped a bottle of electrolytes and told him they were sending a boat to rescue him…
It’s like that movie Life Of Pie. Good flick btw.
Why was he is Mexico? LOL
The dog couldn’t wait to get off that boat.
Oh they were both so happy
rudder, mast, rigging and sails all in place. no rational reason to be drifting.
I’m calling shenanigans. The media is fawning all over this guy right now, but what would you expect? Just give it a few weeks and the truth will come out.
He already admitted he had a working satellite phone and was talking to his family. So he must have had electricity to keep the sat phone charged, probably solar. His family got worried about a storm and called in the rescue.
The rudders are right there for anyone to see. The mainsail boom is gone, but he could have rigged the jib any time – it’s sitting there on the deck. He could have called for rescue or sailed for land any time. He probably undid the boom and tossed it overboard himself.
That boat would have been well-stocked, two months of canned rations for the planned trip; he probably had twice that, plus dog food and vitamin pills. He should be pretty sick after 3 months of eating nothing but raw fish. Ever heard of scurvy? The dog looks FAT in another video.
I think the plan was to drift around for a while, and then miraculously make it back to land. I think he spent the last three months writing the book and screenplay. Getting rescued was the last thing he wanted.
After the helicopter spotted him, the whole plan went sideways. He threw everything ( including the water-maker ) overboard before he was rescued the next day by the fishermen.
The fact that he had a working sat phone is absolutely damning:
Yes, also his main and jib are hanked on there. Even if they are damaged it appears there is enough sail area available to make some progress. Knowing the sun rises in the east, toward Mexico, he could have easily turned around without any nav equipment and made landfall within a month or less.
@Steve Fink Yup. That boat is not out of commission, not by a long shot. I guess he lost his magnetic compass too. For three months he never even tried? He just sat there? This is a complete fraud. The dog is a nice touch. And notice how he is preserving his “Castaway” appearance. The truth will come out. Tom Hanks won’t be playing this guy anytime soon.
@Utoobinteresting…
so glad he and his dog were found.
That is so crazy!!!
He’s lucky he had a boat other people ik met similar fates they just got lost at sea without any boats tho
We shouldve been looking for Him before we went looking for that one “Submarine”
Maybe his own people didnt want to find him. They would have found him if they wanted.
HOORAY !!!❤️❤️❤️
Drew brees is the best nfl player in history.
😂 wrong video
Hope he got that knife back.
Absolutely lucky he was found. Happy for him and his family.
give the man a sandwich.
Never go offshore without a EPIRB!!!!!!!! This guys is lucky to be alive. Totally unprepared for being out at sea.
He obviously took good care of that happy dog.
Love this moment ❤🎉
months adrift….just drinking sea water and eating steak and eggs everyday.
Both in great condition with 3 months without water
How FU(KING STUPID is this guy asking the same question when you’re not any kind of law enforcement…🤔🤨
He survived because at some point early on, he decided to conserve resources, obtain fresh water from rain, ration it, and even keep himself out of the sun. Amazing foresight and discipline. Most others would have gone crazy and died.
I know this guy. Is that you Robinson? Robinson Crusoe, you remember me?
This just goes to prove how many smugglers pass through the open waters undetected
Treated like a criminal from the start.
It’s revenge.
0:13 You can see how overwhelmed he is with emotion as they approach the boat. If it was me, I would not feel completely safe until I was actually on the other boat.
Wonderful that this fellow and his dog were found alive. I can’t for the life of me understand why he has now given up his dog and left him on the boat with the rescue crew. That dog was probably a big factor in his mental survival. I couldn’t imagine giving up my dog let alone after going through this experience!
It’s a good thing he wasn’t black when he went for that knife.
The middle of the sea isn’t America
That lucky dog 😂
Shaddock is a useless sailor. His boat was structurally undamaged. He could have repaired his sails, or put up spare sails and kept going. Obviously an incompetent twit who had no business being at sea.
Can you imagine the relief?
The rescue was done properly. It’s amazing that Mr. Shaddock was able to keep his dog so healthy. Taking care of the dog was part of Mr. Shaddock’s rationing system. Good man.
He was in contact with his family via sat phone the entire time. His rigging was not damaged. He didn’t know how to navigate without electronics. He had the ability to make an sos call for rescue. He shouldn’t be sailing with this level of incompetence. I feel bad for the dog
I’m incredulous about the outpouring of love for this guy. He was in this situation because of his own incompetence. He had rigging and was in contact with the world via sat phone the entire time. It’s a crappy sailer that sets his boat to drift because you lose electronics. Did he have no charts on board? Did he never learn to navigate? Why put an innocent dog through this when you can sos and get immediate rescue.
I agree with you, his boat was seaworthy and he could have gotten his position via sat-phone.
Lived aboard and cruised my on boat for 14 years.
I think he’s a fraud. He never did answer when he left La Paz.
Glad the dog has a new owner.
Not a whole lot of empathy there
Three month later, he left his dog behind…
What kind of owner this ?
I really don’t know squat about oceans but I just can’t see drifting for months out on the water. Are there no currents?
I think it’s called an Ebirb? 🤷🤦 gps… it’s portable too
This is not a very good video , no context.
What exactly was wrong with the Catimaran ??
They should have left him to keep the knife and worry more about feeding him
But either way they did a great job I understand they have to be safe but u can tell the guy was just wanting to be rescued
Very odd he didn’t get scurvy. Maybe he keeps a bottle of vitamin C on board in his emergency supplies? Anyway great story and great work keeping the dog alive. Very risky giving up precious fresh water and food.
In an interview he said that had a lot of supplies for the long journey, he started eating raw fish when he ran out of supplies, I’m pretty sure he also had dog food in the boat.
So was it after two or three months when he was found?? News sources sometimes in the same video saying two but the caption reads three🙄. He admitted in another interview that he had been messaging his family but was too proud to ask for help yet. He obviously had enough rations to keep the dog well fed. Media trying to sensationalize everything!
How terrifying this must have been for this man.
How terrifying for his poor dog also.
God must have been protecting them.
May they have a peaceful
life from now on and to thank God for protecting them both.
I could not even begin to Imagine what it must have been like for them losing all hope of survival.
The heartache, and emotional fear.
GOD BLESS THEM
.
What does God have to do with this?
So first he puts the man in some test, then he rescues him and gets all the credit.
Is that the way, you see it?
The poor dog I think found it difficult to stand on solid ground after so many months on the sea.
dont need to buy a lotto ticket because he won already
0:23 I sense a movie coming soon. Old Man & The Sea_2023
It’ll be a double feature after watching the horrific ending to “$250000.00 per passenger dive to the Titanic, in a shitcan”.
Plenty of time for Hollywood movies coming up!! 🦄
I was hoping they’d give the dude a frickin hug but they proceeded to interrogate the poor man like they were Feds and he was a terrorist.
I’m surprised they didn’t interrogate the dog…
Bella também ficou feliz 😂❤
What Is the Difference Between God and Nature?
“It is best for us to agree and accept the words of the Kabbalists that ‘the nature’ (Heb. ‘HaTeva’ [‘הטבע’]) has the same numerical value as ‘God’ (Heb. ‘Elohim’ [‘אלהים’]—eighty-six. Then, I will be able to call the laws of God ‘nature’s commandments [Mitzvot],’ or vice-versa (God’s commandments [Mitzvot] by the name ‘nature’s laws’), for they are one and the same.” – Kabbalist Yehuda Ashlag (Baal HaSulam), “The Peace.”
There is nothing besides the system of nature, which Kabbalists equally refer to as “nature” or “God,” and we are integral parts of this system.
Therefore, when we say that there is one God, it means that there is nothing besides one force acting in this single system we are parts of.
The desire of the single force acting in reality is to bring us into connection with it—not via coercion, but through awareness in a positive manner.
As much as we understand, feel and attain this force as one that is good and benevolent, then we can adhere to it and reach its level of complete awareness.
I believe the Dog was more excited than that poor guy was
I don’t understand the point of posting a 2 min clip of an obviously longer video.
Should have just made this a reel and posted a full video 🤷♂️
What you don’t know is he actually got on the boat with 2 dogs….
sorry, as a lifelong sailor this story has so many holes in it.
His Wharram catamaran is clearly not damaged.
Both the rudders are attached, his mast is still firmly in place, you can see a main and jib still attached.
This is not a rescue from a damaged boat, simply an attempt to gain attention.
Even if all his nav gear were out of action, he cuold have used his compass to head east eventually he would have made landfall. Even with no compass there is a bright light every morning showing him East…..
Why does he want attention?
No, thank you for your reporting
Dogs are angels they come down to watch over us.
Good news after a long time, nice to see this,
and he is abandoning sweet Bella behind in Mexico. nuff said
So when does the movie come out lol…😂😂😂
1000 miles from land…it’s hard to imagine how lonely and isolated that would feel.
This is a thrilling story with a happy end❤
why are the fishing boat people acting like the long arm of the law ! Cheers
Why a fisherman asked the guy if is carrying weapons? Shouldn’t be the coast guard?
Hope authorities give him back his dog.
