Break constitutional law much, NYC? Love how these talking heads say nothing about how these ordinances violate constitutional law. Hmmmm…..I guess that doesn’t matter.
Appellate and Supreme Courts around the country have ruled STRs are NOT commercial operations. In fact they are NO different that long term rentals. The same residential use where people sleep, eat and bathe. Motels and hotels offer other services and are not in homes but commercial areas. And it is my constitutional right to use my home and property to its highest potential without undue governmental restriction or overreach. Read the constitution and learn. Stop buying into lies. STRs are no worse than long term rentals. In fact it’s much harder to get ride of a bad long term tenant than a disruptive short term guest. I’d love to get rid of one of my jerk neighbors whose dogs bark all day but I can’t. Why? Because even though they are pigs, they have rights too in this country. You don’t like the lack of affordable housing? Blame your local government official and their restrictive zoning laws. The early Boomers made all the millennials and never bothered to plan for the massive population increase that class has brought to the housing market. It’s not about the low hanging scapegoat fruit of STRs. It’s about lack of building new homes. Stop believing what is spoon fed to you in the media. All the experts and federal and state judges state these ordinances are violating constitutional and state laws…..so how are you an expert in property rights? You’re not. Be informed and then let’s discuss. You’re blaming the wrong people. And BTW – I have every right to earn money and as much as I want. Just like you do. @Dom Johnson
@Elizabeth Emmens Then why are you guys losing in court? Because you don’t have a hotel license, no regulation, you destroy the neighborhoods you occupy. You operate a business that should be illegal because you harm the economy. Just like the drug business harms society so does yours. It’s also illegal to sell your organs on the open market because it would harm society. It’s illegal to just call yourself a doctor and open a practice it should also be illegal to call yourself a hotel and open up with no regulation especially since your neighbors will suffer. You are not zoned for a hotel just like my house isn’t zoned for a nuclear power station or welding shop. That’s why your business should and will be banned. Of course you will defend it because you are making money….illegally.
@Elizabeth Emmenspreach! People are so uneducated. 1.6 million people LIVE in Manhatten alone. Banning str isn’t going to add ENOUGH “affordable” housing to that market. Anyone who thinks this will work is delusional. I hope the tourism market takes a dive because I doubt the hotels will make it more affordable with less competition in the area.
I agree
Greedy people ruined it, that is what America is all about, greed
needs to happen all over the western world.
go book a hotel
AirBNB is a major contributor to the housing crirsis, taking rental properties off the market for short term rentals. Now we all have to deal with out of control housing costs for both rental and purchase. It’s gone on too long and needs to stop.
Airbnb was a good idea but it’s proved to be counter productive to society. Sorry folks.
Finally. AirBNB needs to be banned.
After 30 days, squatters right kick in. It’s hard to get rid of people as opposed to short term rentals. Who wants to deal with tenants month to month, and then they don’t want to pay your rent. That’s why airbnb short-term was good for homeowners. Rent will still be high in nyc regardless if airbnb
Airbnb banned in most places, when they get caught they complain they can’t make 20,000 a month anymore 😫😫😫 they destroyed the housing markets now they complain they can’t maintain their affluent lifestyles . 😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅
I am so happy that they can’t have air bnb in New York. I had a horrible experience in January with an owner in FarRockaway NY where she had her personal items and medications 💊 in the rental, the house was very unclean and then she had the audacity to say that I damaged her property and when I reached out to AIRBNB to intervene and review my pictures 📸 of before when I arrived and videos 📹 of how I left it and to advise them about her personal items and medications, my sincere efforts went unheard. Nevertheless, she wasn’t getting a dime from me and I hope that she never gets to rent out that death trap again 👏🏿 AIRBNB does NOT ensure that the rental properties and landlords are following certain safety and that the properties are safe, clean and drug free. 🤔 They should be held liable as well. I will NEVER book a rental through AIRBNB again!!!
City planning usually keeps hotels out of residential neighborhoods.
I’m a native New Yorker. I spent 10 years saving and looking for a home to purchase but couldn’t compete with cash only deals and kept gettin out bid. My dream house, a crappy little modest place in the ghetto, I lost the bid for. It became an Airbnb shortly after and the owner does not live in NYC. My landlord at my current apt lives in the suburbs. They dont give a shit about the community.
About time! This should become world wide.
I had a very traumatic experience and when I complained to Airbnb they did nothing. They still that host renting.
Keep voting these clowns in, it comes the voters problem
DO IT.
BAN SHORT TERM RENTALS IN EVERY MAJOR CITY ON THE PLANET.
Jaysus WHAT LOUSY AUDIO-I’m not wasting my time with this
