More than 50 people are under arrest in connection with an overnight looting spree in Philadelphia after crowds of thieves ransacked businesses like Apple, Lululemon and Foot Locker. Organized retail theft is happening all over America, including in the Bay Area, and is killing businesses and making shopping more expensive. NBC News’ Tom Llamas reports from Oakland.

I started working as a dish washer in high school and continued working different jobs through college. I purchased a home and never been unemployed for took whatever job was available to pay the mortgage and feed the family. I just do not understand why not work and just pay for things you want. This can not continue or we are done as a society in this country. I actually start to look at other countries to retire to when the time comes.

I feel awful how difficult mass shoplifting has caused for minimum wage workers. I went to the pharmacy recently, & every time I wanted something I needed to press a button to call over a worker. He eventually started following me as the store was near empty & I had many items I needed. I kept thanking him for his patience. Side note: if you are ever taking up someone’s time like this, even though it is their job, or if you ever get held up at the counter paying or whatever, don’t apologize but thank the worker &/or whoever is behind you for their patience. It puts a positive spin on it that makes them feel good about themselves.
