Amazon Q3 earnings beats estimates for sales, but misses target for cloud

Amazon’s (AMZN) third quarter earnings topped Wall Street estimates. Earnings of $0.94 per share topped expectations of $0.58. Net sales of $143.08 billion beat estimates of $141.56 billion.
JMP Securities, a Citizens Company, Equity Research Analyst Nick Jones tells Yahoo Finance Live anchors Julie Hyman and Josh Lipton that the numbers were “solid.” Referencing the stock’s initial pop in after-hours trading, Jones suspects it’s because of operating income margins that “look really good.” Jones says that he thinks the company is “pulling all the various levers they have across their businesses units to kind of give investors what they’re looking for, which is better operating income margin.”
