Geoffrey Holt, an 82 year-old mobile park caretaker who did not own a TV or car, left $3.8 million to the town of Hinsdale, N.H., following his death. Holt’s friends say he lived a “frugal” life and invested his money that amassed the fortune.

Of all the things to do he waisted it on beurocrats. Id burn it before I gave it to the government.
Suspicious town steal the money?
Why would and old bored man leave millions and not have tv or do anything he was probably a mirderer
That’s lame! He should have given it directly to the people! Maybe someone desperately needs some work tools or food or house renovations. Will the town council provide for that?
The population is about 3905 residence. He could have given each person about $973. That would’ve been a good Christmas gift
Maybe give 70% to town for renovations and 30% to communities living there.
If it’s a democrat town it should last about two months.
A lovely decent real salt of the earth American. God bless him.
What a doll!!
He didn’t get to enjoy his own money, how sad!
OMG! How much more of this are we, as Americans, going to take?
Biden has abandon and betrayed Ukraine, Israel, Lahaina Maui, Palestine Ohio, The Middle Class, Jews, Blacks, Asians, Hispanics, The Green Movement, The Fossil Fuel Industry, Automobile Manufacturers, Law Abiding Citizens, Agriculture, The Islamic People, The Christian People, OUR Veterans and basically the Entire Country!
If your in this list then you know what it is Biden has done.
If your in this list you also know that Biden has Abandon and Betrayed all of us and is giving it to ALL the Ungrateful illegal Migrants he’s purposely allowing in this Country. All of US have Family’s, Children, Relatives, WHY are we Allowing this One Man to Destroy the Our Futures and the Futures of all those we Love and Care for, this must STOP and STOP Quickly!
WE ARE BEING REDUCED
TO SLAVES!!!

Obviously not a democrat
Hope the town is as considerate with his money as he was
Nope it’s all gonna be used for bonuses and greed
@Motorcycholas wouldn’t surprise me at all
a true New England Yankee
That’s awesome. My dads cousin was the same way and my husband at the time was his boss and said he had to tell him to cash his paychecks bcuz payroll was getting upset that he had several checks that needed to be deposited or cashed, after 60 days the checks would not be valid. Of course this was very long ago before they had direct deposit 😂
I’m grateful for his major contribution to the city, but I wished he’d enjoyed he fruit of HIS own labor a little more. His dad’s words really left an impact on him! And well, thanks buddy … Rest in peace!
Favorable investments aren’t often the result of personal labor. Could be your stock broker, macro economic forces, or just dumb luck.
I agree with you and hope he still used his money to enjoy himself, but the clip was pretty clear he didn’t accumulate that amount by managing a mobile home park.
Who says he wasn’t enjoying his life? Not owning a car means a lot less headaches, and not owning TV means a lot less idiocy and propaganda. I’d say he was living the life he wanted.
@Jerry Sears yeaahh … good point 👍
Enjoying means you do what you love to do. If what you love to do doesn’t cost a lot of money, then you’ll have a lot left over. So he did the right thing by giving it away. I feel like I am similar to him. I do not enjoy luxurious vacations, 5 star hotels, fine food, fine cars, expensive clothes, nice big house. My idea of vacation is rugged adventures. I don’t care how nice my house is, as long as it has the basic amenities and I get to have some land, maybe about one acre is enough. If I were single, I would have amassed many millions by now too.
Some people just don’t believe in spending money on expensive things and it looked like he was very happy with his life. I worked with an elementary teacher who had money 💰 🤑 he doesn’t own a TV, just listens to the radio. He would borrow books from the school library. He never went on vacation. Vacation was spent at home. He is a huge Dodgers fan and never spent a penny to go see a game in person. When he goes his money is going to be donated.
Please listen to carefully,, don’t send any notification from earth outside of our galaxy . take its warnings. he is waiting, they are looking our planet. otherwise our earth will be destroy,, ples take it’s seriously
What a way to live a life and no next of kin ? talk about extreme living where you only live once.
Then the local government swindles it all and will still raise taxes.
After he led such a fugal life to save money, I hope the town uses it wisely.
Jeff is definitely one of the “Few Good Men”! Fugal guy! My dad grew up in the Great Depression ! He was also very furgal but also very compassionate ! I wonder if Jeff was in the US Navy ? ⚓⛵⚓
Glad his father taught him the meaning of “Save it for a rainy day.” But shouldn’t Dad have also told him “You can’t take it with you?” 😂
I’m sure the mayor of that town will become rich all of a sudden
that’s awesome they should build a statue for him
He was low-key, humble and modest. He probably wouldn’t want the money wasted on a statue of him.
@Robin right, donated statue !!
thats great and all but I worried on how the town officials are actually going to spend the money. they going to find ways to put it in there pockets or they going to do the right thing and use it the way its supposed to be used
So he was a fool
“In other news man buys 2.7 million dollar bottle of whiskey he never intends on drinking.”
Not owning a car or a TV was an excellent thing to do! No annoying commericals , not polluting the environment! Retired Teacher here 37 years! I haven’t had Cable since 1986-87! I was in Grad school and didn’t have time to watch any TV ! I never hooked it back up! I would rather READ! I ditched my car February 8,2023! Not a big fan of Big Oil! I walk everywhere ! Friends take me to the market 2 times / month! I sm more European yhan American anyway! Lol! No gas necessary, no Car Insurance, no new tires, no Car Registration fees, no Car Repair bills , to nsme just s few of the advantages! and a lot more FREE TIME! And FYI, the GREEN PARTY started in Germany! German – Swiss American here! 🇩🇪🇨🇭🇺🇸💙🌊💙🌊💙🌊💙🌊💙No GYM fees either! I WALK everywhere! 🥰🤗🚶🚶🚶🚶💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚💙💚
am , than LOL! To err is human! 🤣😂
It has Billy Currington’s “people are crazy” ring to it! 😅
What a shame. Bye bye to that money….
Well that is a smart thing to do! Give it to the greedy Lawyers who will squander it on frivilious lawsuits that benefit themselves! I mean the Politicks!
He gave all his money to the government to be sure nobody killed him and take it
Where is his family 😮
I wish he would have spent every penny before he died and had a damned good time doing it! May he RIP. Hopefully the town uses the money to help other people who lived the way he did- poor/modest.
Best bet the town won’t be as frugal with the gift
Ahh i can hear maga cry..he was a socialist
Dedicated less than 1 minute to this man.
What a waste. The town already steals money from everyone
Anyone whop gives to their community instead of only living for themselves is a good people in my book.
Just because you have money to spend on stupid things doesn’t mean you should.
Using your own money you earned isn’t stupid, Spider-Man.
I could live comfortably if I didn’t have to own a car.
Gas fillups ,oil changes , unexpected breakdowns ,yearly registration fee
Give that man a monument
Wow. This is really something.
All the greedy politicians getting their cut Everyone’s going to fight about what’s best to do with it.
Political Math
Give it to 4 people, change their lives and the lives of their children forever. Give it to a town and get 6 benches with your name on them
The towns gonna implement a bunch of lgbt indoctrination classes in tgeir kids education now with that man money. Do a bunch of diversity hires
What a Awesome, Blessed story of Kindness 😊😊😊😊!!!!!!
#I really truly hope to town uses the money to better all of it’s Citizens
#I hope also that they make a placque or monument for this Kind yet Frugal Man
#Add/Use his name as a part of the History of this Blessed Town
#Name SOMETHING SIGNIFICANT AFTER HIM, etc like the Town Hall, Library, Bank, etc
I bet the city reps with spend that money wisely on new cars and exotic vacations. 😏
they need to make him a statue. 4 his big ❤
that is just one part of the story
Bless him in the eternities.
Wait till the town’s officials start blowing up that money with new car for the police chief, mayor, sheriff, city officials, pay increases and bonuses for themselves… You know how small towns roll.
Used for “Culture initiatives”🙄 we all know what that means. Some heshefathermother will get a monument or building built for some woke ideology🤮🥴
😮😮😮
Don’t forget 10% for the big guy! 😄
Hope the town is Republican 😊
Nice! Can go to the school district to teach kids about how great it is to be trans.
Good man. That’s a real man right there. Had more wealth than most people could ever dream of, Ava never once fell to temptation. Lesser men would’ve indulged, and become slaves to their vices, but he wasn’t an ordinary man. He was satisfied with the simple things in life and lived modestly. RIP
Ultimate act of kindness.
oh yeah sure it sounds nice “leaving it to the town” but lets be honest, that town is still part of the government, and the government could care less about you. Should of left it to a reputable charity
Wealth is generally very quiet. Wealthy people understand this..
Setting it up in an interest-earning trust and only using some of the interest every year on community improvement and historical preservation projects (and letting the rest of the interest grow the principal balance) would be the smartest way to manage the funds. I hope the town is doing something like that.
That was a bad idea. Should have left it for food banks or something. The town is gonna waste that money for sure
Knowing town budgets 3.8 million will be gone by the end of the year.
What a legacy to help your town.
He was able to emass his fortune not really by being frugal but by staying single.
I cant wait to see the millions spent on a trans youth center and a shelter for the homeless, maybe a drug shelter
This is an extremely poor town and I hope that there are honest board members making conscious decisions. To benefit ALL of the towns people and in his legacy that he left as a blessing for the people. Just goes to show you you can’t judge the outward appearance of poverty. What a beautiful heart.
You are so right about that. Hinsdale really needs the money but the 3.8 won’t go far without conscious decisions.
“You will know them by their fruits”. Matt 7:16 –
The town as a whole, or to the government crooks running the town? I doubt everyone in the town got cut a check.
Lol and the town heads ar3 going to take a good chunk and put it in their pocket you know this man’s money won’t go to where it should.
That town is only gonna see 10% of that money. The 90 is going to the political staff and high rankers. Wish the money was distributed to the laborers of the city and not the city
I like how not owning a tv is worthy of note….
sad this guy lived poor only to give it to a town that we all know will steal it by inflated projects. sure there will be an artist hired for a memorial pieces at 300k
This is a sad story of a man who didn’t learn how to spend his money. From his father he learned to fear losing money so he just saved it and someone else will spend it now. There’s a lesson here
No. This a great story of a man who learned to control his money and his desires instead of being controlled by either. But what he learned at the very end was that the savings power that others do not have in their lusts and gluttony is that the money could help the less fortunate and weak.
❤❤❤
Too bad, he didn’t get to enjoy it more… That being excessively paranoid about not having money, drove him.
That town, will blow that money in a month or less
Sounds like my dad exept he is so scared to spend how dollarhe will go to the community soup kitchen 😂
Sad. At least he didnt leave it all to a pet.
You cannot serve GOD and mammon too!
Good works, man!
You have earned a place in fhe heavens!
Perfectly apropos that the guy who didn’t own a TV is the guy that understood how little money is worth to an individual who is not in any particular need. It’s exactly pop culture that invented that lie.
Government just doubled their pay. Possibly.
No one needs millions of $$$, keep enough to live until you die. Give the rest away.
God bless that man.
For “the migrants”= politicians pockets
What waste. He could’ve helped so many people.
So the town must of swiped him of his assets because he died without family I would assume. And I’ll bet none of the non local government affiliated citizens saw a dime.
I bet it was all given to police departments, ems, street departments etc….
Im sure the town will use a portion but i guarantee you there will be some city politicians lineing there pocket with this mans money
Well if it’s a democrat town it won’t last very long. 😮😅
He should have left it to Trump’s presidential campaign.
Lame!!! Shoulda went out in a blaze of glory..now your hard earned money will be spent on woke art and bonuses
Ultimate note here is whatever work you doing doesn’t matter you can achieve ….and so sophisticated or advance things not required to lead a life or to make it
It took a lifetime to earn it, government will burn through it in a few months.
Maybe they should rename the town after their benefactor.
Hopefully they put it to good use and not waste it.
I love stories like this because it’s about somebody who didn’t spend more than they needed to and did more than their part in helping others. This is a success story.
He wasn’t living free enough and went the way of every New Ham.
Don’t wear your bleeding heart on the sleeve, it’ll get dirty and infected… You needn’t leave your earthy wealth to the government. Government will make certain your pocket lint is removed before incineration. Who, what, where does one live without corrupt self serving government… School board too city council? Make sure instead you leave a bill, Bill… for which your neighbor will be taxed to pay. Carrion:
He got lucky in the stock market. Many people have so far. The town leaders will now be taking multiple vacations in the Caribbean funded by his gift to meet and fight over what they will do with the money. Better he had left it to a worthy charity instead of trusting it to the local bureaucrats. There’s also the issue of how legally binding his will is. Lawyers will eat up a lot of the funds due to legal infighting of community members over the money.
Who got his lawnmower? Did he mow that grass for free?
hinsdale has 3900 ppl. so the equiv of $1k each. but u know the bureaucrats gonna give themselves raises, contract to cut down trees & pave sompthin & call it a park, & continue to raise property taxes. oh, & theyll hire ex-soldiers to escalate the police state. rather just have the thousand in cash… cut out the govt middlemen
hope the money goes to those in need
Using an investment calculator (assuming a return of 10% per year) his savings rate from age 22 to 82 he only needed to save $100 per month. Frugality and Disciplined investing. That’s what I teach. It’s amazing how much can be achieved.
