An Oklahoma judge exonerated Glynn Simmons, 71, after he spent nearly 50 years in prison. Simmons was ruled innocent after prosecutors agreed that key evidence in his case was not turned over to his defense lawyers. KFOR’s Ali Meyer reports.

#Oklahoma #Prison #Innocent
Kinda just like Derek Chauvin, huh?!
Where is the prosecutor who argued his case. If he is alive, he should take Mr Simmons place in prison.
Not the first time this has happened in Oklahoma John Grisham wrote a book about one of the cases
This is what they’re doing to Trump, guilty before proven innocent. Election interference.
This is incredibly depressing. This poor man has spent his whole life behind bars for a crime he did not commit.
Omg! It is so sad that 48 years to prove you were not guilty. Life is precious
So sad, there is no dollar amount nearly enough to repay this poor man……
I just hope that in all the history of the United States, an innocent person has not been executed for a crime they did not commit. It does make me wonder if there are any innocents on death row somewhere.
Omg how horrific. Now pay that poor man
My question is, why did attorneys do nothing about this case for almost 50 years? It wasn’t like this was brand new evidence only just now available.
You’re not entitled to endless appeals. He had no money to hire one being poor and in prison. Some charity took his case, probably the innocence project.
@@Karlswebb Well of course, formal appeals, yes that’s correct. But I’m talking about an attorney just reviewing the facts of the case and the factual problems with the evidence. Actually sitting down with the victim and getting his side of the story.
There is hope that Richard Glossip will be exonerated. A man who has spent over 25 years on death row, based NOT on even a scintilla of evidence linking him to a murder for which ANOTHER MAN confessed to and received a life sentence. Instead, Glossip was convicted BASED UPON the testimony of the ACTUAL MURDERER, who testified that Glossip “put him up to it,” in order to get the death penalty taken off the table!!
This murderer’s own daughter has written SEVERAL letters to the OK Pardon and Parole Board, telling them that an INNOCENT MAN is in prison, after her father admitted to her that he lied on the stand and that Glossip had absolutely nothing to do with the murder!!
This is beyond sad and infuriating..😢😢😡
The 13th Amendment is at work.
Its so unjust what this poor man has had to endure bless him may the rest of his life be as good as possible
oh im gonna sue
No amount of money can bring those years back. But I hope he sues the state and gets as much as he can.
😢😢😢 such stories make me cry. How dare you waste someone’s child life like that. May the Judge who sentenced him at first be cursed. Sorry Mr. Simpson
I am not even 48 yet. Just terrible.
So, how much compensation?
They should be awarded a millions and if the prosecutors withheld evidence they should be disbarred and bankrupted.
This is so sad. Praying for you , sir
I’m so so glad for him an anybody else who was put in jail for something they did not do.because someone said they did or not really looking in to its so unfair but God bless them all.😢❤
Imagine how many people got the death penalty with the same evidence that they use to convict him 😢
Who is surprised by this ⁉️🤔
Even a day behind bars while being innocent deserves compensation but almost 50 years ?!?!? They robbed this man of the one thing you can never give him back , life!
Modern day slavery. They pick out black men, imprison them for free labor, and then release them with barely any money once they are too old to be effective.
50 years 😳
Crazy 😳
How much 💸 can they come up with to come even close to righting this?
He is a strongman, knowing that he is innocent and locked by his own society for so long and still not insane, He is strongman to endure that injustice.
I’m have to clap judge Amy she looking good no cap
Racist America payback is Coming.
I feel bad for the teen that was shot but victims must uphold integrity. You can’t wrongfully point the finger at someone you are incredulous about simply because you’re hurting and you want somebody to pay for the injustice done to you. And the justice system was probably racist back then but the justice system needs to do the proper due diligence that may not have been available at the time of this crime but at least take the steps to correct the mistake as soon as possible, not 50 years later. Fs all around for the justice system, the victim, the city, the state, and society. That man doesn’t seem to be harboring resentment, but if I were him I would have to fight very hard not to start my Vivian arc.
What about the co-defendant?
How surprising he is black. I hope he is properly compensated financially…. Not that money will ever truly compensate him for his lost years, lost opportunities and being unable to build memories with family and loved ones. Think about that. It’s horrendous. To my mind it borders on torture.
And what happened to his co-accused? I note that he was paroled … but was the “evidence” against him similarly suspect? Will we ever know?
And what happened to the real perpetrator(s) … did they go undetected and able to go on commit further crimes? Further murders?
And the victims of the robbery … what of them? Where is their justice?
Sloppy police work and corrupt prosecutors… how many other miscarriages of justice were they responsible for?
To my mind, there should be an immediate, thorough, independent, public inquiry.
There should also be an immediate pay out of compensation by the state, given Mr Simmon’s acknowledged innocence, not to compensate him immediately is not only egregious in the circumstances it is unconscionable. And doubly so given that he is currently battling cancer.
He should also sue the State of Oklahoma for the deliberate misfeasance perpetrated against him by the state prosecutors and law enforcement that brought about this appalling and heinous miscarriage of justice.
I pray they gotta pay that man in Jesus Name. Should be 10 million for every year he served.
50 YEARS 50 YEARS THEY GAVE THAT MAN. I DON’T SEE A TEAR IN THE ROOM OR I’M SO SORRY. PLEASE FORGIVE ME FROM THE JUDGE. YOU KNOW THAT’S THE DEVIL. JUST KNOW JOSEPH, GOD’S SERVANT SPENT TIME IN PRISON TO YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS. AND HE WAS INNOCENT.
Oops.
Give this man 10 million dollars at least.
90% of black people in prison for decades, their cases need to be reviewed because lots of them are behind bars for crimes they didn’t commit. Shames
Black people were targeted and sent to prison all because of their color. Sad country
So glad to hear his name was finally
cleared.
I’m sorry to see how the system makes these life altering mistakes!
Thank God he had someone working to free him!
God bless him.
He should be given one million dollars for each year they stole from him. 50 million is fair .You call that a “justice” system ???
Racially motivated conviction??
Well I hope it doesn’t take 50 years for them to release Daryl chauvin and the rest of the police officers who were unfairly convicted in the George Floyd OD
They weren’t though. The difference is they committed crimes with lots of evidence and were found guilty. If floyd OD’d, he would’ve died shortly after they came upon him. He was coherent and obviously not OD’ing.
What you mean is that you believe the fentanyl contributed to his death. That doesn’t matter. But for the officers unlawful use of excessive force he would not have died, as per two medical reports by doctors, which you are not.
Facts come first above your feelings my friend. Gotta be more rational and less karen triggered manager mode. I believe in you! You can do it!
50 years is a lifetime.
For every wrongly convicted person, a criminal remains free.
That’s like a really f****d up movie. He’s far from the only one that they’ve done like this.
The fact that the question of compensation is a freaking joke!
He should get no less than 500k per year. But that is wishful thinking. I say no less than 5 million for that man.
Yes it happens more then it should where someone is wrongly in prison. I remember a man got convicted because he had crooked teeth. Which was what the real criminal also had and everyone remembered. After many years later he turn out to be innocent. A dentist fixed his teeth when he got out so no one could point to them again. He also was calm when he finally got justice and was out.
Black people are about 7½ times more likely to be wrongfully convicted of murder in the U.S. than are whites, and about 80% more likely to be innocent than others convicted of murder, according to a new report by the National Registry of Exonerations. The already disproportionate risk of wrongful conviction, the Registry found, was even worse if the murder victim in a case was white.
Only in America. Land of the Free
Every day there’s a new exoneration for the race with the “highest” crime per capita statistic.
10 million compensation is enough for rest of time
😮…goodness!
I thought reading about innocent people spending 20, 25, 28 and 34 years in prison was terrible, but this one is the worst. 😔
Hope he’s able to live comfortably for what remains of his life. The authorities “stole” the best parts of his life, his youth.
If he sues the city for a couple of million dollars it will still never remove the trauma he experienced but at least it will help him live out the rest of his life in comfort.
This poor man needs lots of money and now.
Amerika…. Leader of incarceration. More than the next three countries combined.
I hope he’s awarded a huge amount of money for the 48 years that was taken away from him. It took 48 years to prove this man’s innocence? Unbelievable!
America has this same story in all 50 states!
Wow. The injustice of it all. That poor man. I don’t know how anyone involved in putting and keeping this innocent man in prison for nearly 50 years – well I don’t know how they can even look themselves in the mirror.
all things considered PAY HIM NOW before he passes away and the man and his family get 0
see people how ez it can be one of US in that position
No amount of money can replace those years but Jesus he should get 1 million per year served = 50 million! Hes had to worry for 50 years the last thing he should have to do is worry about money when his life was ripped away
Now He should be made a millionaire 50 times over.
Yep, 1 million for every year he was incarcerated.
And all of those responsible for his wrongful incarceration, should now be jailed and get to spend the rest of their days in jail too.
That means the real murderer is still on the loose after all these years.
500 million
No amount of money in the world can repair this man had taken from him
He missed out on everything, life and family, the gov owes him big time
This man’s so-called guilt is the product of the news media & Judicial LIARS,,, Oklahoma owes this man several million dollars & the attorneys & news folk that caused this, should barred from the legal system & incarcerated.
50 years whatt ???
Its facade and sham
He is owed million$
Thank you. They need to pay some money to him for life. Justice belongs to our Heavenly Father
I get the nomenclature behind “Better late than never” But having to wait 50 years for justice is not justice!
…Now make him whole !!!
Omg think about your parents passing away while yout locked up for 48 years, cant go to the funeral, never got to say goodbye………id be out for blood and getting a literal pound of flesh for every year i was inside.
USA can give billions of dollars to Israel in order to support a genocide but can’t give a man even a million dollars who’s entire life was robbed from him for a crime he didn’t commit.
Whites 😕
in the whites world, Now he should find a job to pay his bills😕
Give him $50M, 40 acres, and Ford Mustang
A tragedy. Unforgivable.
💙💕💙💕💙💕💙
When you a black man in America you will be always guilty my brother justice was not done until this man gets paid
This is the most nasty thing to do with your own citizens, innocent people locked up for years, very nasty country, nothing should be believed what is said in this country, he should be pay for all the years was stolen from him
Talk about Sueing. Can he win a lawsuit for this?
Cops don’t care about justice they just needed a ninja to lock up and any ninja would do.
This must be such a relief to him, I hope he has family around him!
Poor man missed most of his life. Tens of $$millions in compensation so he can live a life of luxury!!
they do this to black ppl all the time
I suppose his only crime was being black and a suspect
Racist POS justice system. When the real criminal is out there. He should’ve gotten a million for each year or at least 24 million smh 🤦🏻♀️
He should get 48 million dollars, One million dollars for each year he spent in prison and the state should pay 😒
What a culture shock this man will have after spending 50 years in prison for something he didn’t do.
God bless I’m so happy to see Justice Finally come through for this man. Though years can never be given back sorrowfully, I pray the rest of his time he is able to spend in comfort harmony and rejoice with the one dearest to his heart. I pray the compensation he receives as no it will no give back what’s lost but Instead help his forward path comfortable allowing him to be able to focus on what’s most deserved love and happiness. God Bless you Glen and you’re family.
I bet you that the Jury consisted of all white people….
I’m so sorry for what happened to you. Why don’t people in authority. Also the media many times look for sensation and not truth. Some sort of accountability needs to be available to a blatant abuse of power
The people that put him there needs to be put in prison for 50 years
$1M for every year.
My grandma use to say black are always guilty then proven innocent
Disgraceful.
It should not have taken 50 years. But I guess we had to wait until those with prejudice minds left. I pray for restitution physcically, mentally and monetarily. In Jesus name amen. May God strengtgen him and give him favor and peace.
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 1:22
Nothing can replaced the best years of a persons life.
Using the identification of a traumatised, brain injured victim to prosecution is unforgivable.
That man deserves to live remains of his life in peace.
“48 Years for wrongful conviction” that’s the buck if his life. That is why i said racism is far more deeper than one can imagine. And those cases always ended up mostly on black people.
I’m Sad that he spent his life n prison , & Happy that he’s Finally out . There R also MORE Men just like him still n prison . Wonder if they’ll get Lucky .
